Strength:

Loud, clear, precise, timbre matched

Weakness:

Nothing, I love it, I can't get enough of it(That is my weakness)

When I first test ran it in my house, it sounded a little tinty, After two days of intense low frequency movies(Final Fantasy, etc...)along with some extensive adjustments or my reciever, the center channel created a wall of sound in my living room. It is so well timbre matched to my other speakers, I don't want to hear anything else when the system is running. There is absolutely no distortion no matter how loud I have the system, the only thing that happens is the house sounds like it is going to come down from all the sound. It is to the point(sometimes) where I can't take the volume and I have to turn it down. The crossover frequency cut-off is 2200Hz and the lowest it drops is 50 Hz. Unbelievable speaker for the price. There is nothing I can find wrong with this speaker. My speaker system: Center: Klipsch Sc-1 Towers: Klipsch Ksf 8.5 Sides:Customs with Pioneer elite 6.5" Rears:Klipsch Ksb 1.1 Sub: Paradigm PDR-10

I recently replaced the Quintet Center channel that came with the package with a SC-1. HUGE difference... dialogue is very clear and crisp, not muddy like Quintet. Highly recommended.

Strength:

Very clear dialogue. Solid Design. Handles lots of power very, VERY, well.

Weakness:

None that I have encountered

I bought this to compliment the Klipsch SPF-8.5's that I have for both my mains and rears (got a really good deal) and the Klipsch sub. The SC-1 keeps up with the rest of the set quite well. I have a Yamaha SX-V800 and I haven't been able to really push it because the Klipsch's are so efficient; they fill the room with sound and rattle the china without the Yamaha even breaking a sweat. I cranked it up one time just to see what would happen. What did I get from the center? Clear, undistorted, pure sound and dialoge (very loud, mind you, but clear), perfectly balanced with the other speakers. It kept pace with the other speakers and wasn't overwhelmed at all. I am and always have been sold on Klipsch speakers and the SC-1 is worthy of the legendary Klipsch name. Buy it and you will not be disappointed.

Strength:

clarity, sensitivity,

Weakness:

bulky, a little bright

I own the Klipsch Quintet system and while I was generally pleased with it, the center channel speaker was subpar. It simply could not handle the signal that many of today's dts and dd dvd's pushed out. I often found myself constantly adjusting the volume; raising for dialog intensive scenes, and lowering it for action scenes. Furthermore, I often had to push the decibal level on the center channel to the limit (+10 dbs) in order to hearly clear dialog. The effect of so raising the volume was that really loud action scenes clearly and audibly stressed the speaker. Instead of purchasing a whole new set, I opted for the SC-1. It is not an exact match with the Quintets, but whatever the trade is (and I haven't detected it yet), the improvement in overall movie sound and enjoyability has been well worth it. The SC-1's higher capacity allows me to set the volume once at the beginning of a dvd and not change it throughout the film. Dialog is clear; I keep the center at only +3 dbs now. This purchase has truly made my movie watching experience more enjoyable. Since I don't listen to 5.1 channel music, I am not concerned that the Quintets and the SC-1 will be exposed for being different. At $172 and free shipping, I feel it was a great value. Five stars for value, 4 stars for overall (no need to kid ourselves, this is a very good product but not among the very best)

A little older but great

While working in a high-end stereo store I was fortunate enough to not only listen to, but to compare with equal everything the highest end Bose and the Klipsch. I thought I would wait a while before purchasing my own system so I could get a feel for the two. There was absolutely no waiting involved; I knew which was better right away. When the Bose representative left to go home early for the day (which was quite often) it was a free for all on his system. I would hook up the comparable speakers to the same receiver via speaker selector boxes, listen and just laugh. People would come in and I would do Klipsch/Bose comparisons for them . Needless to say 79 out of the 80 people that got to hear the difference walked out at night with Klipsch in hand. The one that didn’t had a Bose center, and a wife that told him not twice but three times that "the Bose would look better on top of the T.V." When she was gone he later nudged me and sure enough agreed the Klipsch sounded better. One further note, when I hooked the two center speakers up to compare (originally the Bose center speaker was not hooked up to the Bose system, now i know why) there laid the biggest difference in the sound quality. The best way to describe the two differences would be to imagine a 5-gallon bucket of water! Now imagine playing boths speakers side by side! Now imagine that Bose center speaker submerged in that 5-gallon bucket of water! That is the difference. And I was only comparing it to the Klipsch C-1 (one of the lowest end centers). Now I know why the Bose guy didn’t hook up his center, and also why he would never let me play my system when his was playing.

This center speaker is awesome! Dialog is very clear and rich.

Weakness:

I was at Good Guy's and listended to the Quintet system, the SC.5 and the SC-1. All I can say is that the SC-1 was worth the price. The quintet system really couldn't handle the high volume, you could tell the receiver was pushing it past its limits. I wanted something with a reasonable price and the SC.5 looked nice and compact and was about $70 less than the SC-1. I listened to the SC.5 and it sounded nice, but when I switched to the SC-1, I noticed that the sound was richer and stronger. I didn't have to listen anymore as I knew these speakers would work for me. For this price range, the speakers handled well. I think it will sound even better after they are broken in a little more. After watching a few DVD movies, I have not noticed any distortion and sounds were clear. The only thing I'm worried about is that it will fall from my 27" WEGA, which has a slanted top. The plugs I placed at the bottom of the the speaker is gripping it well so far.

Strength:

Sounds great, looks great.

Weakness:

Horn can be a little bright.

I have the SC1 center which replaced the KSC-C1. Now there is a place to reveiw the SC1 so I've copied my review for it that I posted in the KS-SC1 thread. Since the only difference is the grille, slightly different dimensions on the horn and a different material for the speaker cones, there isn't a lot of difference in the sound between the two.

Not a lot to say about this speaker. It meets or exceeds my expectations for every type of media I have played through it. It goes down below the frequencies where you would set a crossover for a sub. It produces dialogue, gun shots, explosions, classical music, hard rock effortlessly.

I believe the brightness of the horn isn't from the horn, but from the fact that this speaker can play extremely loud without distorting. So much so that it becomes deceptively loud. Where other speakers begin do distort this thing keeps going. As a result you aren't being give the audible ques that the sound is too loud. Which makes you think the speaker is to bright instead of realizing you are just playing it too loud.

Create addition to a hometheater. Provide you mate it with some other Klipsch speakers.

Strength:

Solid construction, great reproduction of voice, great value

Weakness:

Tall (I guess it should be for the size of the driver)

I just received the center tonight. I ordered from crazyeddie.com, which I have to add had pretty bad service overall. The bag that protects the center was open upon arrival, and the box looked like it had been open several times, so I was a little leary if this was factory refurbed or something of that nature. I inspected the cabinet and it looks flawless, so I guess I'm OK. I hooked it up and the sound was great. Very clear detail on vocals, especially on DTS DVDs. I think they could've backed the mid down a little, and added a little more detail. However, this is all personal preference. Overall very nice center, built solid with excellent power handling.

Strength:

Extremely clear and precise, perfect size for small rooms, beautiful highs. Surprising amount of bass capability. Outstanding VALUE!

Weakness:

Overpowers my sore excuse for front main speakers. Forces you to upgrade your components to match its prowess.

First things first --- This center ROCKS!

I picked up the SC-1 a few weeks ago as part of my planned home theater upgrade project and I needed a center that wasn't too big since my den is only 18ftx15ft. Since this was my first experience with Klipsch I visited a Sound Advice dealer near-by to listen to the speaker first-hand. I was completely impressed at the demo model they had in the store, but I decided to purchase online and save myself $90. I found out about earthstations.com from other reviews on this site and I can honestly say that they are a first-rate vendor of Klipsch products (Chris was absolutely great to deal with). I live in south Florida and my shipment made it from California to my door in five business days and I didn't even pay for shipping!!! If your in the market for Klipsch give them a call.

Since adding the SC-1 to my system, I have been kept in constant awe. Watching my movie collection again is like seeing them for the first time. Dialogue is crystal clear. If this center has a performance ceiling I can't find it; I used the scene from Independace Day where New York, L.A., and Washington are destroyed as a benchmark. Now my receiver can throw 110 watts at my center and through the entire scene every explosion, every crunch of metal was perfect and without distortion. My previous setup consisted of KLH speakers that never made me feel emersed in the movie. The SC-1 alone blows away my KLH center and fronts.

The only gripe I have, is that the SC-1 so overpowers my existing fronts that I will be forced to upgrade those soon too. Oh well, I will gladly go back to Klipsch for those!

Bottom Line: If you want a compact center that will amaze you with its ability to accurately resproduce amazing sound look no further than the SC-1. And, $159 w/ free shipping is insanely cheap for this kind of quality product. If you have a larger room you may want to consider the reference line of Klipsch centers (which I've listened to and loved), they were just too big for my room.
