Strength:

Don''t know haven''t heard them myself as I have yet to decide whether I can be bothered to replace the cone, although 900 clubbers a night in bristol can be wrong!

Weakness:

No grills over cones

Swapped for a cd player in 2001. Manufactured in 1992 and have had a chequered life, they''ve been part of a sound system in an anexe of a major club in Bristol, only to then survive a trip around europe in the back of a truck, only to fall foul of a idiot with a knife who did one of the wooffers. I''m still trying to track the people that manufacture the components, although it looks like other people have just bunged any old replacement into the holes in other repairs. The 12 inch bass cone (has code W-1213p-8 printed on it)claims to have been made in the republic of ireland (the cabinet claims to be made on 17/3/1992 (saint pats day hence fairly impossible in ireland)).

sucker appeal

Weakness:

I'm a sucker

This morning I was approached by two charachters in a red minivan claiming a story similiar to those mentioned above, i.e. boss doesnt know, willing to part with them cheap. Being a sucker, I was totally fooled by the colorful brochure listing the price around $1300. The story sounded rather sketchy but given my assessment of the situation I thought it best not to ask too many questions. At $250 I thought I was extremely fortunate to have been at the right place at the right time. Upon arriving home I call a friend who is much more knowledgeable in these matters and he regrettingly informed me to check out these reviews. The speakers work reletively well but compared to my little Mission shelf speakers I couldn't understand what made them so costly. Had I paid $50 I would not be writing this and having no technical knowledge to share I only hope to inform my fellow New Mexicans that these enterprising thugs have invaded our fair state and to be on guard. After posting this notice I plan to write my congressman and plead for the reinstatement of death by hanging for anyone found guilty of such shanigans.

Weakness:

components allegedly suck hell

I read all about the scam that these speakers are involved in, but I found an ad in the classifieds for a pair for $200 and decided to check them out. I bought them on the spot at the guys house for $150 and have been listening to them all night tonight. For $150 I got a deal and a half. Despite all of the terrible reviews on sound quality i cant complain all that much. Bass thumps nicely, midrange and tweeter have adjustable frequency controls. High end could use a little work, must be where they used some cheaper components. If you can find a pair for $150/200 dollars then they are definitely worth the buy. Bottom line : these are $200/$250 dollar speakers. NOT $2,400 speakers.

Everything about them

well well well...
Down here in New Zealand we get exactly the same story.... Boss put one to many in the van.....
A friend got a pair for $600 ( NZ ) thinking he had done well.
Asked me over to appraise them. One bass driver would not work, so I pulled it out to look... Wire off. Looked at craftsmanship and components... CRAP. These things were built like a do kennel. A bad dog kennel. And the drivers!?!?!... There was actually an item about them on the news a few days later... Polie got onto the people and I believe that everyone got a refund...
Can I give these a negative value?
Worth all of $20 - be good speakers to put outside at a party I guess.... who cares if they get beer spilt into them?

Take my Sound Dynamics R818's ANY day.

White van driver is in Japan, now.
I'm Japanese and I'm living in Osaka,Japan.
I bought that speaker from them two months ago.
They were white man, poor Japanese speaker.
They said warehouse mistake, and they have no time.
I paid 430$ for two speaker.
They said some other Japanese paid 1200$ for 1.
Japanese people is easy to deceive.
I seached by internet, at last find this site.
I think those scums should better go back to their own country.

I have been approached by the white van brigade about 4 times in the last 5 years. These speakers also show up in pawn shops under the same name or "acoustic monitors". The story I get from the white van is that they have an extra set of speakers somehow and their boss doesn't know about it. They give me the high list price routine and they will let is go for $500. Anybody with half a brain can see that the components used in the flimsy box are of such poor quality that I don't think even off brand companies would use them. I just played along with what they said and asked for them to remove a driver. My magnetic screwdriver i bought for $2.98 has a larger magnet than this speaker did. I told them if they would handle the power from my THX parasound amp, then I would buy the entire van load. They naturally declined the test. I'm sure any decent amp made today would pop that woofer cone right through that grill cloth. All of that crap about "liquid cooled" and some graph showing their response attached to the inside cover is the biggest joke I've ever seen or heard. They always pick names with "acoustic" or "monitors" in the title. They keep changing the model name and # but you can spot them a mile away. I have never purchased any and I hope this and the other reviews keeps someone from buying a set. The box they come in is worth 2 dollars and that's all I can say

Strength:

Cheap (if you're lucky).

Weakness:

Price (if you're unlucky). No bass whatsoever.

I literally bought them out of the back of someone's van. The person said they were $2500 speakers. I have a pair of Energy speakers about 10 years old that sound twice as good.

What a joke... I still can't believe I bought them. I guess at $50/piece I was luckier than most. I'm guessing someone out there is making fakes or maybe some of you just got lucky?

Looks like the grand majority of us are getting the same caliber speakers. Ah well, a lesson learned!

Strength:

They look mean, sound deep

Weakness:

sound abit muffled

Got these from ebay, knowing exactly what they were after reading some of the comments here, delivery cost more than the actual speakers, but they are a wicked piece just to show off. They ARE huge, (abit like the speaker on the groove armada-superstylin video if you've seen it!!??), with a far too big a cone than it can handle. They go down really low and are great to use as extra 'B' speakers, when you want abit more power to shake. I'm always thinking they will blow any minute, but they survive. Not for a refined ear. They sounded better than I thought they would, so I'm happy, not sure I'd spend too much more on them though.
