Not All that Bad

Just a follow-up on my previous review. Recently installed new speakers, and the low-volume break-up persisted.

After some trouble-shooting, it appears the problem lies with the receiver--not the speakers. So, I slandered the Series 3311 speakers in my previous review.

They work!!

Well, I bought them from a friend, He needed money and I would have gave 200 anyway, might as well get some speakers out of it, I know he would have never paid me back. But his story is the same. Someone yelled at him at a stoplight. I don't know how much he paid from them. But I think it was more than 200 bucks.

To me they sound ok. I never listen to them at low volumes, so I don't worry about how bad they sound at low volumes. I have a Yamaha SW-800 sub. with that and these speakers turned up loud it shakes the whole house.

I would have to say that I am not to disappionted in these things. They do what i need them to, I have had them for over a 1 1/2 years. When they blow I will get some decent speakers. After reading some of the reviews i am really curious to hear the "pop". Untill then I will just crank them up, and piss off the neighbors. later.

Strength:

Great sound quality, didn't get ripped off by a van

Weakness:

none

I think these speakers are great. I got an awesome deal from a friend of mine on them, 4 for $150.00. I use them every day, I have two hooked up to my computer/stereo/tv, and the other two (which have beat-up boxes) for PA speakers for my band. They aren't great for PA speakers, but they're not supposed to be either. I've heard all of the storys about people getting ripped off by some "White Van", but I can't see what's so bad about these speakers. All you need is a subwoofer and you've got an awesome system. Mine are only rated at 125 watts, so I can't see where some people say 700 watts. They wonder why they sound crappy and pop and smoke. 700 watts will do that to 125 watt speakers. I've cranked them up to 125 watts and they were still just as clear as the are at 20 watts. Overall, they are great speakers, and are not a rip off.

They sound muffled, like someone is talking into a cup. Way too much bass. I dont think the level controls were never hooked up.

Absolutely none.

The woofer, midrange, tweeter, "crossover", and cabinet.

I have run into these "salesmen" in the white vans at least 4 times. Same story, same crappy speakers every time! Has anybody ever heard of Acoustic brand speakers? If you have the misfortune of meeting one of these guys, give them a hard time, it's fun!

big, expensive looking

These reviews are totally hilarious to me! I too was a sucker for the great deal on these speakers from two guys in a white van. Again, they had too many speakers and could let a pair go for cheap. The funny part is that this happened to me in 1992! I fell for the scam and paid about $250 for the pair.

I have been using these speakers ever since and really have not had any problems with them.

I'll probably keep them until I can afford to upgrade, or they blow out. Obvoiusly, I'm no audiophile or I would know how crappy these are, but now I'm curious to hear what quality speakers sound like! I'm getting a new receiver soon, so it will be interesting to hear how they sound.

I must say that it is good to finally know the truth about the source of this "incredible value".

I got the white van routine over here in the UK! Two guys pulled up, claiming they were delivering speakers to a company and had been given too many pairs without the boss realising. They showed me the list price and I called the number at the top of the page to check it out. The woman at the end of the line told me they sold for £1800 a pair! They then showed me a copy of 'What HI-FI' magazine where there were a few classifieds selling them for £900-£1200 a pair second hand! I was dubious at first but after this I was quite convinced so paid £200 for them. I don't think they sound that bad but then I'm no professional. After hearing all the 'White Van' stories and reading reviews on here, it looks as though I was probably ripped off.

Strength:

From the sellers prospective - "there's a sucker born every minute".

Weakness:

From the buyers prospective - "there's a sucker born every minute".

Years ago when I was very young and very unemployed. I worked for these knuckleheads.
The company’s name was GREAT WHITE NORTH.
Every day at dawn they would load up a dozen vans with these crappy speakers at a warehouse and scatter several hundred miles in every direction. From there they would work their way back and prey upon simple human greed. The fact that I rode with them 10+ years ago and appear to be doing quite well is testament that they do have a simple yet killer scam going, Barnum would have loved it.
The hook was always the same. "Hey, want a big set of speakers"? "The Boss put too many on the truck, wanna see em'"! Now who doesn't want to help this guy stick it to "the Boss" and what guy doesn't want a big set of speakers?
I saw them follow people to ATM's and soak them for 5-6-7 hundred bucks. I saw them settle for as little as $75.
It always helped if they acted as though one of the speakers had dropped on their head just before pitching the sale. At least that was my "trainers" modus. He deliberately mispronounced "big words" like polypropylene. To rope the mark in tighter he grunted when lifting the box, like it was filled with some tropical hardwood flagship speaker. He's probably a lawyer by now.
They knew when paydays were at big factories and armed service bases and worked it like they were fishing for salmon. By days end they would rake in 3 or 4 grand.
I never pitched one customer, I was there less then a week in all. I am not proud to have ridden with these weasels but I must confess that it was fascinating.
What I learned is: If it seems too good to be true....well you know the rest. kpl

I just bought the speakers today from 2 guys in a van in
vancouver BC, they claimed they were worth $800/each and they had to sell them because their boss didn't know they had them. They wanted $400/pair, I bartered with them for a bit and eventually bought 3 sets for $500 ($80 bux/speaker),

I got them home and a couple of my friends came over to see them and listen to them, they all liked the sound quality, and they thought they looked 'expensive'.

The sound quality I feel is decent, better than my old crappy speakers but definetly not high end.

So i'm selling my other 2 sets to my friends for $200 each set, they like them (after listening to them)..

Bottom line: they work decent, have decent sound quality, look expensive (good quality..) - and if you buy them cheap enough they are all-right.

The tweeter, woofer, midrange is all sucks.

I got "robbed" by the seller of this speakers. The seller of this speakers was a good cheater. He said it worth $2400, I bought it for $500, but it really sucks. It might be worth less than $70 for the poor sound speakers like this. Technics speaker sounds 3 times better than this. It says that this speakers is made in USA, but after I opened the woofer, mid-range, and tweeter it's all made in Mexico and my friend's is made in China. May be the part that made in USA is only the cabinet.
