Often break-up at low volumes

What a surprise to stumble across this website while researching the pedigree of my Acoustic Speakers. Same old story, approached by two guys in a Van back in 1993, claimed to have too many of the speakers by accident, don't want to take them back to the warehouse, blah, blah, blah.

Strange thing is, the speakers aren't all that bad (I know really crappy speakers--had lots of them growing up ;-). The Acoustics handle the power of my Yamaha RX-570 okay. I've always admired the way they can reproduce the subtle sound of a guitar pick sliding along a string. And, they were a huge improvement over the "legitimate" (tired) Kenwood speakers they replaced. However, I think I now know why the speakers cut-out at low volumes. Low quality.

Now that I know the speaker's pedigree, I'm giving up on trying to fix the low volume cut-out, and am buying myself a new set of speakers. I'll give the old Acoustics to Good Will.

What a weird thing .... some scam of selling semi-decent speakers, occurring all over the world??

Saw a ad on recycler for these at $500.00 And I went to
see the guy.They were in a sealed box and I got him to open them. When I said I wanted to listen to them he said he didn't have any equipment to plug them in... guess what he had a nasty surprise coming. I took a denon receiver and a
cd player with me..When I told him that He was in a awful
hurry to get to work...
Any way my advice is listen to the speakers before you are buying And if a deal is too good to be true please take a step back and think about what you are getting in to....

I was searching through the internet and I went to www.speakermart.com and I found thease speakers on the web site and I had never heard of them before so I went back to this web site because I was researching a pair of cerwin vegas earlier and I read the reviews.I have never laughed so hard in a long time.THE WHITE VAN MUST HAVE BROKE DOWN.PRETTY FUNNY STUFF AND I AM STILL LAUGHING AT THE PEOPLE WHO THINK THEY GOT A GREAT DEAL FOR THE MONEY.i GAVE IT FIVE STARS FOR HUMOR.

Individual tone controls that actually sound like they do something. Impressive "silver" woofer cones. Three whole speakers in each cabinet.

What everyone else said...

The VAN was blue in this case - my friend bought these for $200 cash and a $75 radar detector. The guy showed him a catalog with the speakers shown for $1000 or something like that. We were in college at the time and the speakers handled everything we (literally) threw at them. At the time, the web wasn't as extensive and a review site like this would have been nice, but the damn things have lasted and sounded alright, so when he moved last summer, I bought them from him for $100. I searched the web then as well and still found nothing describing the speakers. However, a different friend bought some in Boston last winter so we figured our suspicions from 1996 were true - this was a scam. This site confirms what we thought... I figured I got what I paid for - $50 speakers that will do until I get some nice Bostons or JBLs.

just tonight i was curious about these speakers. very oblivious to their origin over the past 3 years. so i decided to look them up and .. thats how i found this site. I must admit that reading these reviews and stories about the cons were rather entertaining. I got the same pitch as everyone else. (accidently got an extra pair for the restraunt they were installing them at, they dont want their boss to find out and need to dump them for $$) I paid around $150 cash AND they followed me to my house (20 minute drive) to get some CDs to make it an even $200 value which was their initial proposal. dedication! So .. i got these speakers used them at college .. cranked them up really really loud.

I really cant say i had a problem with them. they just arent very crisp. The bass seems fine. if you are looking for precision ... you can do a LOT better. if you are looking for something loud .. these seems to have done fairly well. from my experience and reading all these reviews the speakers seem to be decent for a dorm or college party but, for a home theater or more refined use .. I guess these are crap.

I am not the one who bought these speakers, my friend did. While he was withdrawing some money from an ATM machine, a guy in a van (I was not told whether it was white or not) approached him and said he wants to sell a pair of expensive speakers that he got out of a warehouse by mistake (sounds like thief to me). They are in an unopened box with a price sticker of $1300US each. My friend did not want to buy at first but the guy insists on. In an attempt to discourage the guy, my friend gave a bid of dirt cheap $200 a pair and you know the result, he got them. These speakers are huge. i asked him for the brand of the speakers and told it is Acoustic DL something ... I went here and searched and found this review, I started to laugh ... (well I stopped now) and could not resist writing this review ... i give a 1 star since there is nothing lower .

Anything you could ever imagine...

For anyone who has still questions about these f...... pieces of crap, I just looked around a little bit in the Internet and found out, that these f...... m....fu..... sell them around the whole world. Yes they're present in the whole world (United States, Japan, Europe esp. Germany Netherlands and Switzerland, Australia). So please, all of you reading these reviews please be prepared and kick the tiny ba..s of all these retailers trying to sell you a pair of speakers!!!!
There are websites concerning this subject (try entering "Republic Distributors " at google.de ,it's in german !search only german websites! and inform yourself)!!!! SO CHECK THIS OUT PLEASE!!!!!!!

but turns out to be crap!

I had a bad feeling when my uncle stepped into the house and asked me to help him carry some speakers inside. When I walked outside to take a look at the boxes, I immediately knew it was crap (a brand that costs over $1000 retail, yet I've never heard of). I told him I will drive immediately with him back to the store he got it from and return it! Then he told me the bad news: he got it from the "white van", using the same scam you've all heard about! I was so pissed off, I fell down to my knees, looked up at the sky, and just smiled at the sun. Even though I've never seen this website until I did some research afterwards, I knew right there and then that we were scammed off $300 bucks! What really got me was that I was lying there at home, available for any questions, and it will just take a "phone call"! Even though I'm not an audiophile, I do alot of research and don't accept crap for the money. Obviously, my uncle decided to be wise and thought he had a deal of a lifetime! The bottom line is: Please Please Please, if you're not sure of what your doing, ASK! Don't learn it the hard way....get friends and family's opinion! And do ALOT of research before dealing with the salesman (Bose is VERY good at sales). This website is a must-have reference if you consider yourself to be any type of audio enthusiast. Something is definitely wrong when 50-60% of the crowd says a product is bad!!! Good luck to all you enthusiast!
