Strength:

very large and very loud, I think they taught me an important lesson about something or other.

Weakness:

they make you feel like an idiot.

Familiar story, two guys in a white van "suppliers delivered too many".
What makes it really embarrasing is that I am a sound engineering student, so I should have known better. (Well in fact I did eventually realise that the specs sounded like complete bullsh*t: "digital ready"? "liquid cooled"? But by this time I was being "escorted" into the bank by these two very large guys, to get £300 (about $430) cash. Oh well.
They are quite good for listening to dance music at obscene volume levels but not much else.
I found this not long after I got them:

Most the site is in german, but that page is in english and is about one these white van speaker operations being caught and shut down in Hong-Kong. The company estimated turnover is frightening.

Strength:

good sound, cheap price after haggling and listening to lame story

Weakness:

size, these things are approx 30" high

I bought these speakers a couple years ago after listening to the story of "boss doesn't know they loaded an extra set onto our route" I paid $100 and a 6-pack of cold beer I had just bought.

These speakers are a bargain!! I hooked them up to my Sony reciever and like the way they sound. Good deep bass, nice overall sound quality. They even have built in overload breakers (I had to reset them once after trying to "spike" the speakers in a full volume one speaker test, it lasted 3-5 seconds befoe the overload kicked in)

Every time I have friends over for a party the subject of the van sale comes up, yet after listening to the speakers on a range of different music I have more than a few people hunting th sreets looking to buy these speakers off the van.

Bottom line, I knew it was a scam but the price made it worth my money. Where else can you buy a 12" liquid cooled woofer setup for $100/pr??

I found this website which also sells these same speakers for $219.50/pr and guarantees them for two years as well

Strength:

Smooth deep Bass, excellent in fact.

Weakness:

the trebles broke, but i replaced 'em

These are brilliant speakers, they were purchased about 6 or 7 years ago, maybe more, by my brother while he was at uni. The dude selling them said his 'band'was splitting so wanted to get rid of them, which means they were stolen. He paid 200£ for both. The tweeters broke, which is why i was on the net looking for replacements, i did fix them, but io wanted to get the actual tweeters for the speakers so they look nice. anyway.

i dont have any more speakers, i dont need em.

Strength:

THEY SUCK! They sucksucksucksucksuck.

Weakness:

Let's just say... it makes the Tacoma Bridge disaster look like just another everyday event...

In the words of the angry scottsman... These speakers are CRAAAP!! SEE ARE AYE PEE... CRAP!

They are overpriced, no supported warranty, purely mis-represented. There good for... uh.... NOTHING. Absolutely NOTHING.

Similar Products Used:

Simular to these speakers?.. Banana peels, Chewed Gum from the bottom of my shoe, the garbage in my bathroom, wet toilet paper, used staples, a dead cat, and uh... oh yes yes... a ball made of recycled paper... you know... the one you crumple up before you shoot it in the trash in freestyle fasion?... that's about it.

Here is a site that covers this scam.

FOr anyone who's bought these speakers, you legally have three days to get a refund (but it may be difficult).

The above site gives contact information on the manufacturers.

Strength:

can't beat the price, don't sound half bad, handle lots of power

Weakness:

Kinda big for my house. Wife wants something smaller

The marketing strategy for this product is amazing. Everyone who's ever written a review bought them off some guy who got them from some other place.

The story I got was "Hey dude, ya wanna buy some speakers man...We just finished installing these at some guys house. He ordered four speakers but the guys at the dock put four PAIRS in the truck." They were new, in sealed boxes, but having once bought a box of bricks from some guy in a van, thinking I was getting a new VCR, I made him take 'em out and show me...then we went to my house and hooked 'em up. So then he says "I'll sell you both pairs for 400 bucks." I say "Only want one pair." He says "I don't know man." I say "See ya." He says "wait a minute, maybe we can make a deal." I say "you betcha." Of course I have no cash on me, so he drives me to my ATM. Wouldn't you know it, the bank would only let me take out 150 bucks. I offer, he accepts, end of story.

For the price, can't be beat, but like I said, the little missus wants something smaller.

Strength:

Sound good to me. Cheap

Weakness:

crackle

I try to be an honest man. Four years ago I was approached by the infamous "white van dudes" while in a Safeway parking lot. I turned them down on the grounds that their pitch was clearly dishonest as they were basically trying to sell me speakers stolen from their boss. A year and a half later I found some great speakers at a garage sale for fifty bucks. I talked the price to thirty and took them home. Once home, while removing the speakers from the boxes I came across a brochure. This brochure was exactly the same brochure shown to me by the white van dudes a year and a half earlier. I had to smile. These boys get around! Upon telling my story to friends and family I was quite surprised to find that many of them had also been approached by the two white van dudes with the great deal. I have run these speakers for about two and a half years now and they sound great to me. I'm quite pleased with my purchase. My condolences to those who spent more than a hundred dollars for them, for they are but a hundred dollar set of speakers.

Sorry, $100 for a crappy speaker is NOT a good price! Don't you realise that you can get pretty good speakers (Paradigm, NHT) for just a few bucks more than that?? Wake up!

Strength:

they sound fine

Weakness:

hard to resell?

hey, I bought these from the white van several years ago in Omaha. What a great story. I knew it was sketchy, but I never found out how sketchy til now. zitty 19-year olds and the warehouse guy screws up the order - whole shebang. I am no expert but these sound fine to me. they are plenty loud for out-in-the-country parties, and they sound reasonably well at low volumes. Considering that I paid 300 USD for them and they have already lasted five years, I've gotten my money's worth. I was wanting to sell them and get someting smaller. what do I call them? - "the famous white van speakers"?
