Add one more to the list of satisfied owners. For $219, this sub was a great bargain. As others have noted, the only real downside is the quality of construction. But for a 15" sub at less than $300, I certainly don't think it's suprising - especially if you look at any of the other subs in this price range (and there really aren't many). If the built-in Sunfire amp delivers to it's ratings, then the cost of the sub is worth it just to get the amp.
The crossover knob was extremely difficult to turn at first (thought for sure it was defective), but after sever twists, it began to loosen up - though it still is the quite stiff. For some reason, it also seemed like the LFE input was attenuated as compared to the full range low level inputs. I moved my receivers sub-out connection from the LFE input to the Left channel input, and I had to turn the gain down from about 50% to 25% to maintain the same volume.

While I'm still playing with the settings and placement, I am very happy with this sub and would recommend it to anyone looking for a decent mid-level sub at an entry-level price.

Well, after reading so many good reviews on this site and seeing the price, what could I have done but snatch this baby up. Nothing new to say that hasn't been said 28 times already. Cons:
1) I think advent spent about a nickle for each knob
2) Pops when I turn it on but the subwoofer I built does that too
3) Not very musical, a little overwhelming but that's probably b/c I dont
have the crossover or something done right. Not to mention, i think
15'' drivers move too slowly for fast music.
4) A little too big
Pros:
1) 250 w sunfire amp ( I think I would have spent $200 on that alone!)
2) LOUD!!!!
3) Monsterous deep bass
4) Makes my family complain about how it's deafening them

Since I don't use this sub for music since my psb800s have enough bass, it is the perfect sub for a college student like me. It literally shakes all the loose objects in my living room. I watched T2 with it and that scene with the exploding building was UNBELIEVABLE! If sound and bang for the buck is what counts and it does to me, it is definitely, five stars.

I bought this from Onsale as most of you have bought. This is my first sub and that also I bought without listening first. I belived you people and thankyou it was well worth it. I watched LostInSpace DVD and my apartment was really shaking. It is bulky and cheap build, but the sound worth much more. In my unit knobs look cheap, but they are easy to rotate. I will recommend it highly to anybody with $600 budget ( it cost me $240 including taxes and shipping ).

Strength:

15" Downfiring Woofer. Carver Amplifier

Weakness:

Knobs and controls, Auto-power on/off, Popping noises.

Ii decided to go ahead with this purchase based on everyones review here. Unfortunately, the popping at power up and the low-level turn-off issues are enough to make my review negative. This is likely why there are so many on the online auctions because anyone that paid full retail would most assuredly return the thing.

I have yet to take it apart and determine how the auto power features work, and disable them but I will, it's very annoying.

Other than that, when the sub does remain powered on, it's got excellent sound/feel and is most definitely worth every penny of the $269 I paid for it (but not a penny more because of the other issues).

If anyone has some known, detailed workarounds for the popping and auto on/off problems, please write me at rshort@usa.net.

I reviewed this product several months ago. Now I'm back to tell you what this sub can really do. I was sitting around my bedroom listening to music, and i couldn't stand the port noise, bad timing of the speaker, and just the overall poor sound. So i got really mad and took the amp out, and threw the rest in the garbage.(speaker and enclosure) After I realized what I had done the next day, i went searching for a new sub box. I strolled off to Audio King, and started looking in their home audio section. Nothing really special. Then I started looking in car audio. I said "yeah, car subs would work". Well, I was right. Currently behind my couch I have a sub box with 2 12 inch rockford Power puch dvc subs with a sealed enclosure for each sub. Sounds AWESOME! The subs are tight, clear, and most of all, there's a lot of power going into them, thank's to Bob Carver and my 327 dollar amp. Give it a try guys, may be a tad uglier but the sound is so much better.

Outrageous Bass down to 20Hz

Weakness:

Bigger than my coffee table.

This is my irst powered sub, so I can;t really compare it to anything, but after just buying a new receiver and DVD player, the price was right. {$299.00 at J&R} Hauled the thing home myself from the "new"UPS, which is like dealing ith the cable company for show-up times, in the back of my pick-up truck. Put on Saving Private Ryan when they landed on the beach. I was THERE!! Explosions and gunfire were unbelieveable compared to my passive Cambridge sub. Still fiddling with the controls, but I'll get it.A great buy compared to the price of the others.

They do their job just fine, and as I don't have any complaints so far. Then again I am not a sound maniac, and I didn't really got the chance to compare it with other models.

Strength:

Great subwoofer for the price! i PAID $290 for the big boy! i have heard great things about the Sunfire Name. So i took a chance! I am happy with the sub. It BOOMS baby! That all i can say , you will like it! I have tried out other subs like the boston , klipsh and energy and in my opinion for the price and for sound its just as if not better than the other brands!

Weakness:

The knobs are terrible , i mean it seems like they lost interest when they got to that part! At least the sound is great though! But dont let the knobs discourage you .

It ROCKS BABY ! JUST TRY IT OUT!

None that i have found

This is an awesome sub with power that nothing else can touch. I was playing some music at myt birthday party in my garage and my neighbors called the cops on me. I didn't even have it up as loud as it could have been. I like this unit very much because of the deep bass and amazing power. I think almost everyone with a decent stereo could buy this as an add-on. It has about every tpe of input that you could think of including Rca, speaker, and LFE. It also has Gain, crossover, and phase controls to make the perfect sound for movies, cd's, and anything else.

All has been said, got mine for 200. Build quality is okay, knobs are not good. The amp itself is great and may find itself into a DIY sub in the future. Since you have to buy everything in life, price means a lot. You cannot do better for under 300. Due to the LFE out, this is a great starter sub, you can always add another if you want more. Later
