Strength:
A clear five out of five IF paired with a subwoofer. The human voice is reproduced so faithfully, that the singer might as well be in the room. Imaging is wide and deep. Performance is at its best when bi-amped. Replacing 24 year old ribbons with new ones by Graz improved the sound significantly. These new ribbons are made to a greater accuracy than the originals, and the imaging has never been this good. Weakness:
Deep but flabby and distorted very low bass. It sounds OK, but when you hear other high quality speakers, you can tell how flawed it really is. One of the contributors to the bass problem is evident when listening the MFSL CD of Dark Side of the Moon; the heart beat sounds at the beginning are accompanied by loud chuffing sounds from the rear port. Paired with a good subwoofer, though, this is one amazing speaker system. Too bad my wife can’t stand their appearance. She tried so hard to tolerate them, but she looked like she was in pain every time she caught sight of them. I moved them up to my office to spare her the pain. Minus one star for the very low bass. Again, though, 5/5 if paired with a good subwoofer. Purchased: New
Model Year: 1995

These speakers are incredible....of all the speakers I have listened to including my nephews Magnepan 1.7s, these Apogee Centauras Slant 6s are astonishing....I use them with a Take 5 Energy sub and satelites....WOW! Mids and Highs are impeccable.. I purchased these speakers in mint condition from the original owner who rarely used them and when he did only listened at "low volume".

Strength:
Superb Transparency, midrange coherence, focus, soundstaging.
Weakness:
Bass definition, and extension. I bought these speakers in 1995 from someone who had problems with his TV due to the intense magnetic field of its ribbons. Similar Products Used: Mordaunt Short MS50, Infinity Compositions Prelude, Refernce3a La Suprema |

Strength:
Transparency, ease of placement relative to other Apogees.
Weakness:
None at the price I paid Read the previous reviews and saw a pair of slant 6's on e-bay. Purchased for $800 with Klipsch KSW100 8" sub that matches well. First used in H/T application next to my 61" sony v-series with no sign of magnetic interference. They are not as effecient as JBL towers(90)they replaced nor Klipsch center(94) but with adjustment using HK AVR85 they worked very well in H/T setup. Similar Products Used: magnepans, etc. |

These are great speakers. Very sweet sounding. You must be in the sweet spot to experience the full extend of the music. If you like listening alone, you cannot beat these speakers at the price range. |
