Strength:

Great highs

Weakness:

Do not hold enough power

These are great little surround speakers. The highs are excellent and the mids are great. These should only be used for surrounds. The only weakness is the inability to handle power, they are rated at 100 watts. I use a Yamaha RX-V795 and when I watch movies the speakers need to be set to small of course and then they will distort s little when there are explosions. However, I do crank the system quite loud.

Great, full sound for a reasonable cost. I've generally preferred Boston's for their flat sound which doesn't additionally color the sound. These CR6's are mounted as "B" channel speakers in a 18'x12' room. They're wall mounted with the BA swivel brackets, and since they can only fit close to the corners, tend to be more bassy than I thought they'd be. the "A" channel speakers in the larger room are Boston HD 10's, which sound more 'open' when compared to the CR6's in the smaller room. The CR6's have a great range and handle the power from a Sony ES 85w fronts very well.

I am 14 i got 4 of these for my bed room. This is the wisest buy i have ever made for speakers. They sound great even with a junky reciever. The type of music i like to lisiten to is in your face rock (slipknot, mudvayne) and it souned great with the cr6's (with music like this you shouldn't have nice apeakers it sounds all the same) I also like jimi hendrix and this keeps the guitar notes so tight like in the beggining of voodoo child. I highly reccomend this to anyone looking for a speaker in the 0-200 dollar range.

Strength:

Build quality is above average for the price class, fairly detailed and punchy sounding, voices sound good

Weakness:

Highs are nice and crisp but get fizzy when the program material contains a lot of high frequency information

I looked at Paradigm Atom, BA CR6, and Polk RT15 for a small affordable L/R speaker in a budget HT system. I didn't get to critical in my evaluation since I found that all of these speakers were pretty heavily compromised in one form or another, although much better overall then any of the mini sat-sub systems. I thought the build quality on the BA was the best, the Polk next, and the Paradigm last. In terms of sound, the Paradigm may have had the best midrange, the Polks seemed to lack bass detail and good tonal quality across their range, and the BAs, while pretty crisp sounding, were the most broadly detailed. They also seemed to play louder before distorting then the others. If size, and to some extent price, was not a driving factor I would have considered the CR8. This is a much better sounding speaker then the CR6 for only $140 more.

The CR6s are the surrounds rounding out a home theater comprised of Boston Acoustics speakers. Mains: A70s (1986), center: VR910, sub: PV-600. Receiver: Dennon AVR-2800.

For years we have been using some old metal TEAC speakers from my college dorm days as our surround speakers. They are bright, lack bass, aren't timber matched to the mains, and in general just got to be agony after a long movie fest.

Our room is small 18x25. So we had to stay will smaller speakers. We didn't want our surrounds to out perform our mains. We felt that the CR8s may have run that risk, and they were too big for our tower stands.

The CR6 turned out to be a perfect solution for our needs. They match the timber of the older A70s very well. This in itself brings a whole new dimension to movie viewing. The sound isn't fighting front to back anymore. It blends and flows over the listening area. The frequency ranges of the fronts and rears is very close so they play along evenly. Our sub woofer makes up for any huge loss of bass.

The CR6s do have a good amount of bass for rear speakers. They are ported, so location is important to get the most out of the bass. I made sure that I set them up as "full sized" speakers in the receiver so they get the full spectrum. They are about 8 inches from a wall, and they rumble. Many may say they lack bass - I'll send you my old TEAC "two tweater" specials so you can hear what lack of bass means.

Musically the CR6s started out a tad brighter than our other speakers, but they are also smaller, and have mellowed with usage. I am hoping that given some more hours of playing that they will mellow out a bit more.

I haven't heard any "frizzing" mentioned by another reviewer and have had the system cranked pretty good. The frizzing may have been the metal grill on the front of the speaker being loose. Our speakers are mounted on tower stands spiked into carpeting. They sit on a base plate with ontop of rubber feet that hold the base of the speaker very well. This setup limits wobble and vibration.

The Dennon receiver is what I consider to be a mellow receiver. The sound is held back a little and is not bright. It is a warm sound. Similar to the way an Arcam sounds to me. To me products by Sony, etc. tend to be brighter and faster. For years I was using a Rotel RA-820BX integrated amp and the sound with Bostons tended to be a little brighter than I cared for over a long listening period.

Personally I feel that Bostons, and the CR6 in particular, pair up best with a slow, warm amp. Something with power, but not overly rushed to get rid of the signals. Audio products with quicker brighter circuits will make for an even brighter sound with these speakers. It's personal taste.

We were trying to decide between these and Boston Acoustics diffuse surround speakers. We decided on direct projection speakers for the musical aspect. We listen to music in 5 channel stereo and the diffuse surrounds seriously lacked musical ooomph. Also with DTS and more discrete speaker soundtracks for movies, we wanted sound to be more localized and resounding if directed to rear speakers.

For people on a budget or with small rooms, these make a wonderful set of surrounds. The build quality is quite good. The binding posts are solid and accept bare wire, spades, or plugs! This is a set of speakers below $200! A nice change by Boston from my spring loaded A70s. We picked ours up on quite sale so I rate the value high. However, they are a great speaker for the retail price also.
