Strength:

Nice, cheap 5.1 setup for home theater use. Included decoder box supports Dolby Digital! Good selection of inputs and music modes. Much better than television speakers (no comparison at all!) Good for computer/video gaming. Lots of sound for such little satellites!

Weakness:

Not a high quality set of speakers, although good for their price. Boomy base which is not musical at all but works for HT. Center and satellites don't entirely match. Can be a little tinny and shrill. They're still computer speakers so audiophiles stay away!

I purchased my DT3500 Digital for use in a ghetto Home Theater system. Yeah, I know, these are hardly the best speakers out there, but for $250 how could you go wrong? I'd say for the price these are a very good set of speakers. Make no mistake about it, these ARE computer speakers and they have their faults. The Center and the satellites go together pretty well, but don't match completely. The satellite speakers are a little shrill and the whole setup is a little "tinny". But what do you expect from a set of $250 speakers? For the price these are a great value. The DTT3500 Digital comes with its own decoder box so you can use it for more than just computer hook-ups. The decoder can handle Dolby Digital 5.1 (but not DTS) which pretty much makes it perfect for a cheap home theater setup. There are plenty of input options, including digital coaxial and toslink optical, which should allow you to connect whatever you want to it. For their size these speakers also manage to pump out a lot of sound. You wouldn't expect it, but they can really blow you away during a movie! The included subwoofer is also pretty powerful, although as others have noted it is very boomy and I wouldn't say it's very musical. For Home Theater and PS2/Computer Games it serves its purpose, although you may find that you need to turn it down so it isn't so overpowering. Bottomline: If you have a DVD player, PS2 or even just watch standard TV, these speakers will totally blow away the included speakers in your set. There's just no comparison! Once you have even a modest setup like this there's no going back. And if you don't, you don't know what you're missing. Are these great speakers? No, they only cost $250! If you're an audiophile don't even consider buying these! But for the price you get something a lot better than television speakers!

Strength:

Clear, precise imaging, great depth and a complete system with no extras needed

Weakness:

For the price.....NONE

I have the DTT 2500 system and couldn't be more satisfied. The soundstage that they create with good quality MP3's is amazing. The Matrix on DVD was fine when I balanced the system using the amplifier speaker test and just kept watching scene 29 for good measure. I have no complaints about the sub as others have written but I corner loaded it ,at 45 degrees and left it on the floor (the oldest bass rule in the book). The room is 12X17 and I get good bass considering it's only a 5.25. I get enough to shake lamps upstairs in my bedroom. Sure there is better bass out there but look at the price and think about it for a minute. You get a COMPLETE AC3 SYSTEM for UNDER $300. If you just sit and actually listen to them and not expect the room to be shaken apart by a shoe box sized sub then I'm sure you will find that they sound better than anything you can get for the PRICE. Remember it all comes down to the money, unless you're so rich you pay others to listen for you and then who cares what system you get?

I have the SBLive and recommend that card for the setup. It mates perfectly and allows enough flexibilty to create your own soundfield to match your room acoustics. I have a very large home theater system in the next room (Paradigm/Sony) and this sounds almost as acurate as far as imaging and clarity goes. The power and bass extension is obviously quite different but the difference is thousands of dollars. Sound quality over sheer loudness is the key here. The system is plenty loud. Loud enough to get you evicted if you're an apartment dweller and enough bass to drive them nuts if that's what you want. If you try a system out you will buy them. You simply cannot get better performance from ANY small speaker system like the DTT2500 for the price. I have heard a lot of systems and these come with the highest recommendation that I could give in this price point. Simply amazing performance.

Strength:

Clean, crisp, well balanced sound. Easily hidden speaker components. Digital connector through SB Live.

Weakness:

Some speakers were shipped minus the digital din to mini-plug connector for digital connection to SB Live Card.

Excellent sound!!! Very impressive for such small components and modest power. I find myself now spending all my listening time to this great sounding setup over my Yamaha/Boston Accoustic setup....it's that good! Very annoying that mine shipped without the digital din to mini-plug connector and no mention of this at creatives website. However, called Creative who immediately acknowledged some shipped without it and was sending it to me free of charge. Terrific sounding system for the money!

Price, clarity, size

Weakness:

Bass definition, sharp highs

Awesome. I'm still staggered that these things only cost me $260. I got them to watch DVD on my PC (I'm a college kid.) Clarity is excellent for speakers this small and this inexpensive. They might not be enough to blow a large room away, but it's plenty for sitting in front of your PC.

The bass is a little loose, but not distorted. Compared to the ADA880R set from Altec Lansing, they excel in their 5th channel (880's aren't true d. digital.) The highs can be a little too sharp on some notes, but as a whole, they're pretty good. I'd say they're the best set of TRUE 5.1 speakers you can get for your PC.

Strength:

Excellent definition for small speakers; perfect match for Sound Blaster Live! card;

Weakness:

Died three weeks after I got it; only one RF input

I thought this was a great system when I got it though it was a drop in power from the ACS 500s, particularly as regards the woofer. The satellites are easy to place and the system as a whole is well balanced although there is a distinctive hole in the lower mid-range and nobody will accuse the woofer of being earth-shaking.

The decoder locked onto DD 5.1 signals very well with no thunking and the other surround modes available on the decoder made for an outstanding gaming experience when mated with the Sound Blaster Live! I have.

My biggest beef is that 3 weeks into ownership I went to turn on the unit and all I heard was a steady thumping noise. A (toll) call to Creative Labs (there is no web support) resulted in technicians who had no clue what was wrong and was sure that it was the result of some kind of interference. As I live in the sticks and had no new electrical products in the home I thought this was a rather weak explanation but I tried it another part of the house per their suggestion and the unit still thumped. The decoder box was sent to Creative in Oklahoma in February after the technicians realized I knew more than they did and, as of today, I still have no word from Creative about the status of the repair or if they have even received it. Poor service as far as I'm concerned. Heaven help you if your unit breaks.

I'm giving it one star for value given that I received $250 worth of sound for three weeks and three stars overall as the unit actually sounded very good -when it worked.

Strength:

Easy setup, links up to Soundblaster card, sounds MUCH better than I could have hoped, excellent value.

Weakness:

These are mostly nitpicks: A little weak, sort of cheesy speaker stands, speaker wire not long enough

I bought this a couple of months ago (came with decent free Samsung DVD player at hifi.com), figuring that it would be a cheap, temporary, okay-sounding entry into the DD/DTS world.

I was right on some counts and dead wrong on others. This little system sounds great! Not the strongest output, but enough to make any movie sound awesome. For music, not quite as good, but for the money, better than anything else I've seen or heard.

I'm replacing it with a more powerful system (now hooked on DVD and want the ultimate), but with some regrets. It's done everything I've asked of it and more. However, I'm installing it in my parent's house (it's really easy to use and they're not all that tech savvy) and I expect them to love it.

In short, an INCREDIBLE DEAL! If this is your price point, or you want to play DVDs from your computer, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Strength:

Very good bundle (dvd player with coupons for 5 free movies and 21 rentals)... Awesome sound through spdif connection to sblive platium. another really cool feature is that it enhances ANYthing to surround sound by movie mode, is that awesome? yes or yes? i choose both the latter and the former

Weakness:

well, through analog connections... IT SUCKS... and if all you've got are analog connections, change that... cuz it rocks otherwise... pointless to get it if you've no digital connections anyway... fps 2000 suffices

you are a weenie head if you have a pc, but don't have the dtt 2500 speaker system... ignore the 7 watts per channel and 20 watt subwoofer... it's not really disappointing, unless you have your speakers really far away from your position, get a sound blaster live platinum, and it's just like having a thx reciever... except it doesn't say thx on it. at high volumes when connected to the sblive, there is no hissing noise, and it makes all the speakers sound exactly the same (timbre matching) IT ROCKS...

Clear sound, low price

Weakness:

low power for dolby digital movies

Very clear sound through digital din connection. Excellent speakers and subs for a computer system and small room. Provides all in one solution with dolby digital, four point surround, pro logic, etc. Very weak for those seeking more power for their DVD movies. Just not powerful enough. What can you expect for the price and 7.5 watts per channel? 20 watt sub...

Strength:

Very crisp, clean sounding satellite speakers

Weakness:

Subwoofer can sometimes "bottom out" during play

I purchase the Cambridge Soundworks DTT3500 for my computer speaker system. I am extremely impressed with the sound quality of these speakers. The bass can sometimes sound muffled, but otherwise an overall excellent sounding system. I dont use it for watching DVD's on my PC, but I do watch TV on my PC and it sounds great. The most impressive usage is for games. Being an avid gamer, I have found these speakers to be most excellent. Accompanying my speaker system is a Creative X-gamer 5.1 sound card. If you are considering these speakers (and why wouldnt you), pick up a 5.1 sound card from creative. When gaming online, I actually hear monsters or the enemy walking up behind me, and it comes from the rear speakers. Any movement that is around me, comes from the designated speaker to which the sound is coming from. A most excellent advantage when the enemy lurks behind you. One quick turn-around and you can put a bullet right in your opposing players head, before they ever knew what hit em'. If your an avid gamer, these speakers are a must. If you have the money to do it, go for nothing less the best. It can be expensive to build a dream computer system (mine cost me over $3,000 for all), but it is so sweet to sit back and see and hear everything to it fullest potential.

Strength:

Many cool features - AC-3 decoder, sblive 5.1 digital interface

Weakness:

Sub is boomy

I use this unit as my computer speakers for gaming and playing DVDs on my computer. It is one of very few computer speaker systems that comes with a Dolby Digital decoder. You get a lot of features for the money and the sound quality of the speakers (except for the sub) falls into the higher end of computer speakers, although not the best.

This is a great system to pair with a SB live 5.1 card. I can play all my audio over the digital DIN connection from the SB live 5.1 and when it is Dolby Digital the decoder detects it and plays it in 5.1. It also has modes for listening to stereo signals in surround mode.

The system is loud enough for most games and movies but it starts to distort at higher volumes. The sub is okay. I keep the sub output volume turned down a little so it sounds more natural.
