Strength:

Excellent sound for the price

Weakness:

Speaker connections are hard-wired

I have the PCWorks hooked up to a 13" Aiwa stereo TV in my kitchen via the headphone output on the TV. The difference in sound between them and the TV's internal speakers is dramatic. They'd probably do a good job with a portable CD/MD/CS as well. They do not take up much space and look pretty good (OK, the sub is plasticky - but solid). My only beef is that the speakers are hardwired - the wires go in to the speaker and that is that. This is a minor complaint. I am delighted with the sound I get out of the TV using these speakers and have gotten comments about it. I think they now (7/2001) sell for $40 - 10 less than I paid and a real bargain.

For under US$60 bucks, its one hell of a sound package.Very clean, but it lacks deep midrange and bass, but thats a small price to pay for such an inexpensive system. If cambridge could fix these problems, this would be one killer system!

Hi, I just got a set tonight for $50.00 (factory reworked) from a CSW store. I'm amazed that a system that is so inexpensive could sound this musical. Better than anything near it's price range for sure. Three cheers for Henry Kloss!

I use the PC Works with my Dell computer (Soundblaster AWE 64 Value sound card) and my Discman connected to both via a two-to-one miniplug adapter. I think they sound so much better than anything else in their price range that they really have no competition. Now that CSW has dropped the price, if you look around you can get a pair for under $80!
Nice musical sound, not a lot of punch or extension, but hey, for $80 bucks what do you expect. I've already recommended them to friends and family.

I bought a pair of (new) CSW PC Works speakers from BUY.COM for $27 delivered, although they normally sell for $50. Let's assume they cost $50. I also have a set of ~$400 Advent AV570 Sound Partners, among the best stereo computer speakers. The little PC Works can't play as load as the self-powered 570's without distorting a lot and have no real deep bass (surprise, surprise), but they are every bit as musical as the far more expensive speakers. There is nowhere near a $350 difference between them.
The PC Works computer speakers are an absolute steal at $50 and a joy to listen to. There is nothing better at that price. Nothing.

An easy 4 stars!

Strength:

I think this is a really good speaker or may be the best for multimedia speakers and i use them for playing Playstation. The bass and sound quality is really good and nothing can match up for this speaker for its price range

Weakness:

No flat response (Equalizer) the power switch is at the back of the subwoofer so if you put it under the desk or something else, it will be hard to turn on and off the speaker..

It is the best Multimedia speaker that i ever seen so far, the sound quality is the best and you can also use them for music system because of its high output range.

Strength:

Powerful Bass

Weakness:

A Little weak in the mid-range

I had originally ordered a 480W satellite system with my new computer, but when I eventually got it the speakers looked (and sounded) from something you would get in a Cracker Jack Box. As a result, I headed down to the nearest Staples store looking for something to tide me over until I could get a decent pair of computer speakers. I sampled and resampled every set of speakers they had (about 15 in all) and couldn't believe the sound from these little freaks for the price they were going for. Folks, if you are talking "bang for the buck" these are the computer speakers to go with. Fantastic sound overall, but as mentioned in previous reviews, placement of the sub is key.

I got The Cambridge/Creative PC Works 4 Point Surround ( 99$ US ), it is basicly the same as the Pc works, just with two MORE spekaers ( For EAX Surround ) and Louder Subwoffer ( it also sounds a bit better then the PC Works Sub ) also the two MORE speakers add to the total loudness of the system, do the PC works 4 Point Surround is louder and has a bit better subwoffer. this system game me really really good sound for a system at this size! also because that you get TRUE 4 Speakers Surround ( Using My Sound Blaster Live! EAX Audio ) it can sound better the other 400$ two speaker system, becuase the rear speakers add a lot to the sound, filling the room with vivid sound! for a system it's size and money it sounds great! it is not VERY loud but it can fill your room with sound. gret! if you have a 4 speaker sound card like my favorite Sound Blaster live! this is a great 4 Speaker EAX Surround system.

Strength:

Great Value; Good Sound Reproduction

Weakness:

Distorted Sub; Low Power

I bought these speakers initially because the ones which came with my computer were horrible (my headphones where louder when placed on my desk). I bought these because I didn't value loadness at the time and wanted a really low priced set of speakers that sounded good. These fit perfectly. When turned up about 70%, I get very high sound levels for the s,all size of the speakers. They fill a small room beautifully.

The sub is a bit weak though. It has the power to feel through a wall, but quickly loses quality. The satellites surpass it in loadness quickly, but the sub distorts when it itself is turned up. This forces me to play at lower levels to achieve better sound quality.

The small satellites are great because they can be placed anywhere and work well in my limited space. There is a slight static when turned up to full volume and when there is no input (my soundcard does not allow me to play the speaker at full volume without distortion. A SoundBlaster Live would mostly eliminate this problem). The satellites reproduce a wide range of sounds very accurately.

For the low price of these speaker, you get a great value. They far surpass anything else in this price range, though they cannot compete with the bigger MircoWorks, which my roommate has. If a set of computers speakers is needed for casual music listening while working at a computer or accurate, but not too loud, video game sound reproduction, these work well in a small budget, but too much shouldn't be expected. Larger, more powerful speakers should be purchased with more volume, quality, or bass is desired. All-in-all decent speakers, but great for the price.
