The bass and dependability.17 years old...
Weakness:
nil Awesome speakers! The bass is outstanding; AC/DC''s Back in Black shakes the house! Sweet''s Fox on the Run cracks the glass! I moved these from one town to another(8 hr drive), I hooked them up to my car stereo(160watt Alpines)well I tell you ,that was quite the deafening trip!! I use these with a Luxman 150watt amp;they work great. I replaced my Bose 901s with these as the Bose required more power... Similar Products Used: Bose 901-required lots of power! |

Strength:
Thick, deep bass.
Weakness:
High-end. These work-horses will be kick-out serious bass. I aquired a pair of these speakers years ago and and I'm glad I did. These speakers are designed to fill large rooms with an authoritive sound that will be noticed by any audiophile. You will need a large amp (100+ watts/ch) to get the most of them. If you have the room and need powerfull sound, find a pair & buy them. Great for parties! Similar Products Used: Polk, Klipsh. |

Strength:
Kinda cheap. Nice looking wood finish.
Weakness:
Extremely poor sound quality. These speakers are total crap. I know CV fans will tell you that a good amp will make these sound great. Though mine were not run from a great amp (it was a Technics) there is no excuse for the kind of garbage sound they produced. I would easily take my old Yamaha $100 bookshelfs over these monstrosities. When I got my Klipsch KG3's (under $400) they blew the CV out of the water. Listening to them side by side made me wonder how I ever ended up spending my hard earned legal tender on a speaker that is more suitable for firewood than musical reproduction. Im only 20 years old and listen primarily to rap, hard rock, and other 'loud' music that CV speakers are supposedly built for. I dont claim to be an audiophile either. Still, I know a disgrace when I hear it. They ARE loud but in a bad way. Their ported cabinet is designed to improve bass but turns music to mush. Do yourself a favor. Save up another $100 and get some real speakers. If you want something cheaper get some Yamaha bookshelfs and a low end sub - believe me when I say that $300 will be better spent. BASS, BASS oh! did i say BASSSSSSSSSSSS I owned a pair of D-7's (which i still do) that would get you known on a first name basis with the local law enforcement (and they only had 12" woofers) now when my girlfriend purchased my D-9's for me several yrs ago at a pawn shop for $250.00 for the pair(retail for $599.99 EACH=$1,200+ for the pair) and i got them for christmas ,well i guess you can say i was at least ecstatic . These baby,s will make you wonder about what all those other manufacturers were doing when CV was producing REAL sound delivery equipment. All i can say now is if you live in an apartment, small home or mobile home its probably best that you DONT buy these(call me and ill buy them) unless you just like paying fines and being harrased by the police.CV rocks and their equipment will be in my home for life Similar Products Used: youve got to be joking everybody whos anybody knows that you dont compromise on speaker capabilities or quality so all i have to say is not to even look further then your local CV dealer |

Strength:
great loud sounding speaker for the money and for that gropey schmuck at the bottom who gave these speakers a bad review hexx!!!! to you buddy...these speakers are wonderful WITH THE RIGHT AMP~
Weakness:
HEAVY AND BULKY DO NOT USE A CRAPPY RECEIVER TO DRIVE TGHESE SPEAKERS IE. A 80 WATT TECHNICS RECEIVER WITH A DAMPING FACT OF 60 AND THD AND IMD OF ABOUT .84 THIS WILL NOT WORK SAVE UP SOME MONEY AND GET A GOOD SEPERATE AMPLIFIER LIKE A CROWN OR A ROTEL SOMETHING WITH SOME BALLS AND JUST ABOUT ANY SPEAKER WILL SOUND FABULOUS!!! BASS IS NOT MUDDY WHAT SO EVER MIDRANGES ARE A HAIR WEAK AT TIMES (DEPENDS ON THE RECORDING OF COURSE) TREBBLE IS PRETTY GOOD FOR A NON DIAPHRAM DRIVER ( A HORN DRIVER ) ALL IN ALL THESE SPEAKERS ARE ABOUT THE BEST YOU WILL HEAR AT HIGH VOLUMES FOR THE MONEY! Strength:
Seismic bass response and virtually indestructable
Weakness:
low-volume response curve could be better I have destroyed or seriously-crippled numerous amplifiers and receivers during the 13 years I've owned these D9s! The Bang & Olefson receiver didn't have enough power to satisfy my thirst for heavy-metal bass, hence I kept toasting output amp circuits. My Sony GX900ES drove 'em beautifully for close to a decade. The speaker-protection circuits on the D9s work perfectly. Whenever I'd punish the system (and my ears :) with some Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin at SPLs > 116db for extended periods, the Cerwin Vega's fuses would usually pop just as the amp's outputs started clipping. This saved everything! The tweeter's circuit breakers protected similarly. CAUTION: DO NOT SUBSTITUTE ANY OTHER FUSE!!! I have and paid dearly for my impatience with blown amps and one woofer-coil. I finally fried a tweeter last week; a ribbon from the voice coil to the terminal strip broke. After over 13 years of 24/7 use ... this is amazing. Wish I could find another pair! The D9s don't play quiet "chamber music" quite as well as other high-end (expen$ive) speakers but, for rock-n-roll, they are hard to beat :) Similar Products Used: Altec Lansing VotT & Kilpschorn |

Have had these behemoths for some time now. They are,in the Cerwin-Vega tradition, quite efficient and thus will play quite loudly. I've got them hooked up to an older Onkyo integrated with contra-bass (20hz-ish emphasis) and these kids rock very hard indeed, delivering a fierce spl. Although they don't have the delicate nature that better dome tweeters have, much less planar or ribbon HF drivers, that is not what they are about. They are large and heavy at 85lbs., but were a real value. Indestructable fun. Not for the audio elitist, but the bottom end will embarass some much more pricey and newer speakers. |

Strength:
Durability. Outstanding sound quality. Very efficient. Practically indestructible. Speakers for life. Thunderous Bass. Great fronts for home theater. Work with low powered QUALITY amps. Beyond belief at rated power.
Weakness:
HUGE! Transient response could be better. Not reccomended for new-age, or mild classical (Violin Concerto.) You have to be a big boy to move these without help. These are some of my favorite speakers. I believe the only thing I would prefer from Cerwin Vega would be the Series 2000-15's, impossible to find these days, so I have TWO pairs of d-9's. :-) These are VERY, VERY durable speakers. I have had these for about 5 years now. No trade for nothing. Forget it. For what they do, they are the best. Use them in your home theater and you will be astonished by the "Theater in your Livingroom" feeling. It's amazing. Find a pair used? Buy them, because if you don't I will! :-) Similar Products Used: Altec lansing voice of the theater. Electrovoice Centurions. Klipsch corner horns. |
