If you are into funk or rock, and have a good, powerful amp, these are a good value. The key features are bass, durability and low price.

The speaker is comprised of a 15" driver, two 4" mids and a horn tweeter. The size is about 42" tall and 18" deep, and weight is about 90lbs.

The bass: When hooked up to a good amp, the bass is remarkable. Out of curiosity, I added a CV 15" powered subwoofer but there was no noticable effect. I returned the sub immediately. I must emphasize that, while they always sound good, they performance increases substantially when they are hooked up to a quality, powerful amp (120w+).

The durability: There is a fuse for the woofer and a reset switch for the tweeter. With this protection, if you ever find an old set for sale, chances are they can't be too damaged. I've had mine for 10 years now, and they've seen it all (cheap amps, parties, moves, storage, etc...). Judging from the reactions I get whenever I play them, they haven't lost much, if any, of their action.

These may not be the first choice for low-volume, classical music listening, but for funk and rock they're tough to beat.

I am no sound specialist and don't pretend to be. The average reaction I have had from people who have heard my system over the years has been "wow".

I picked these up a while back from a friend of mine..WHOA!!! I love these speakers!! They can really hammer on low bass and shake a room, but you need SERIOUS electronics to drive them correctly! You need a high current amplifier and such to make this work correctly, but you will not be disappointed. I have heard many a speaker before and these are superior to just about all I have heard for bass. In terms of mids and highs, they are ok (NOT INFINITY QUALITY), but again, the bass will destroy most other speakers out there.
5 star for what they are designed for.

Strength:

GREAT SOUND FOR ROCK, METAL, RAP AND COUNTRY

Weakness:

OUT OF PRODUCTION

I HAVE OWNED THESE SPEAKERS FOR 11 YEARS NOW AND THEY STILL SOUND AS GOOD AS ANYTHING NEW ON THE MARKET. BASS AND PERCUSSION HEARD THROUGH THESE SPEAKERS IS AMAZING. THESE SPEAKERS WERE DESIGNED FOR ONE THING ONLY AND THAT IS TO ROCK THE HOUSE. CLASSICAL ENTHUTHIASTS SHOULD LOOK ELSEWHERE. I ORIGINALLY BOUGHT THESE AS PART OF A STEREO SYSTEM USING A HIGH QUALITY YAMAHA STEREO RECEIVER TO FEED THEM. THEY ARE NOW BEING USED AS THE MAIN’S OF MY HOME THEATER SYSTEM POWERED BY AN ADCOM POWER AMP. MY EARS GIVE OUT BEFORE THE D9’S DO.

Strength:

Have good bass with average highs, treble little dull

Weakness:

very large and bulky, need good power amp with 300wpc.

I purchased these speakers in 1984 after comparing to jbl, klipsch, polk. All these speakers were better in some aspects but the d9's had much better bass and had a better power handling in my opinion. After owning a pair of bose 901's I was not happy with them. There was no bass and distortion was present with high volumes. The vegas performed much better when used at higher volume. I will soon purchase the jm labs electra 920 when I build a larger room. But overall the vegas perform good for the money but if you want detail look for something else.

Strength:

They ROCK!!! Very Efficient. Clear and Straight foreward.

Weakness:

Small sound stage. Listening Position is Narrow

I've listened to alot of quality systems and heard better sound. The CV's are loud and clear for the money. I bought mine for $300 in 1988. I used my Audio $$ for new reciever, sub etc. I could not bring myself to change my speakers when these sound so good.

Strength:

Awsome speakers for music with energy ie. rock, metal, techno etc

Weakness:

A bit harsh on sleepy music ie. classical
BIG speakers

Used as intended and set up properly there are none better! Cerwin Vega is great with placement advice and customer service. Extremely efficient. Great volume with low power, incredible output with high power. The only real drawback is the size. They are BIG! And the sad part of this review; I no longer have the room to keep them. If interested in a pair in fantastic condition contact me @ Mtn1squash@aol.com

My rating is based on use as intended. Music for those who aren't sleepy!

There is nothing similar. I have tried many speakers and nothing compares for hard rock!
