Strength:

Big tight bass, solid mids, and good highs.

Weakness:

Plain looks with grill on. Pop that baby off and show the CV orange.

Anyone who rates these speakers a 1 isn’t being fair. Let’s be truthful, a 1 should mean the product is faulty or doesn’t work. I’ve had my CV DX 7’s for about 7 years... (What does than make them in human years?) ...and they’re still going strong. They’ve been relegated, temporarily, to surround status. They were benched when the PSB Gold i’s moved in. While they may not be the number one player anymore, they are still a great speaker. These mid-sized rock and roll speakers (about 70 lbs. each) are adept at giving a fair voice to all music and handle both music and home theater chores with an aged grace. Until just recently I’d convinced myself that I wouldn’t part with these babies, but with the new PSBs, and a new house with media room in the works, I may just bid farewell to the DX 7’s. I hate to think about these bangers sitting by and rotting in some dusty attic, or being relegated to garage duty. That’s why God created bookshelf systems. No, these tributes to bass deserve to be sold to some high school pup still trying to impress that future Mrs. Pup and they can rock on all through the night. Final Points: Solid bass, good mids and highs. High end?...No. Low end?..Definitely NOT! Just a good hardy and honest rock and roll speaker. If you can find these at a good price, buy them, crank them, and love them.

Strength:

Quality of construction, Bass, Mids and highs (good for vegas)

Weakness:

New stuff is crap.

I have had these speakers for over 10 years, at that time they were considered on of the best. Although I am using all Klipsch now I still listen to them and am amazed on the quality that went into these speakers. The new cerwin vegas are junk. I bought a pair when the rubber surround cracked thinking that they due to their age the new Vegas would be better. I was wrong, I got rid of the new ones and repaired the old. These speakers are not the best around anymore in sound, but they are well built, sound good and for the price are excellent speakers. The guy who wrote the previous review obviously does not realized that if you put crap into a speaker you will get crap out. How can you rate a speaker by listening to it once or twice with a limited variety of material.

Strength:

Strong, deep bass.

Weakness:

Detail.

I have a pair in my basement for the "Party room". I have an Onkyo receiver and Pioneer Elite CD player. They sound great in the basement and rock beyond expectations. The bass is deep and the sound is great for parties. No problems with them and I push them to the max.

Strength:

Earth shattering bass with crystal clear highs and powerful loud mids. High quality and excellently designed cabinets.

Weakness:

none.

I was a very lucky man. I purchased the last two Cerwin Vega DX-7s that Sears had in early '97. One was a floor model and one was new in the back room. The salesman cut me one hell of a deal. I purchased both of them for $360. I then went to Radio Shack and bought the best Stereo reciever they carried: a 440 watt Optimus STAV-3370. Then I purchased a Sony 5 disk cd changer. With this combo, I was very impressed with the DX-7s. I was amaized at the incredible bass these things put out and at the same time the crisp highs and mid. I listen to rock, country, and some rap. Last Halloween, we threw a party at my apartments club house. I carried the DX-7s down the stairs and set them up with my Optimus reciever and Sony cd player. Almost 100 people came and they thought I was a proffesional DJ. It is a very large room and I pumped 400 watts of almost every type of music--very loud and continous through the DX-7s from 8:00pm until 3:00am in the morning when the cops showed up! During 7 hours of DJing, these speakers did not distort once and I had many, many compliments on the sound quality. I still have these DX-7s today and I'm listening to them right now. They will last me my whole life and any idiot who dogs on them just does not understand true music quality or they need to have their ears examined! The Cerwin Vega DX-7 is the greatest speaker of all time in my opinion. Thank you Cerwin Vega. ps If anyone knows where to get new original cloth covers for them email me at Kansaspartyer@cs.com

First off I am going to start with the aspect of listening to music that most people that rate speakers dont think about. Community housing like a dormitory or fraternity. If you are trying to have your own party in your room and the people down the hall have their distortion blaring, and the people above you have their klh's popping from hitting end, you have to chose a setup that will give your guests a feeling that you care what they hear from your room. I started out throwing parties with a pair of Eosone rsf 600 speakers, sure sure they had the detail but who cares about that when you can hear others blaring their speakers. I sold the overpricy speakers and bought myself an incredibly afforbable pair of vs 150 from cerwin vega, slightly differant from the dx-7. I started getting better showup at my parties and people complimented me on my choice of speakers, matched with my amp this sucker puts out about 120 db of not horribly distorted bass kick, The tweeters scream and wail to give an image of sound that wasnt obtainable before with the wimpy Eosone. So basically if you want to give your guests some groove, get it on with the cerwin vegas. O, did i mention 102 db rating at 1 watt input? I guess i forgot that part, I dont mean to rub it in or anything.

I could not disagree more with Mr. Guitierrez regarding Cerwin Vega's and classical music. DX-7's Make classical music unlistenable. Ther is no sense of imaging. Highs are very harsh. Mids have no sense of detail nor ambiance.Lows sound like pa speakers.

The DX-7 is bad ass of sound I have 4 and the neighbors hate me....i love my sound....the only problem i have is a slight over powering by the amps I use( onkyo 636) the DX-7 has a overall power rating of 255 watts total power...the onkyo gives 100 rms...and peakes to destroy...the vegas hold to a point the melt but are underwarenty so no problem here...i would not traid them for anything...15 inch sound from a 12 inch woofer small and big all in one...the only thing better is crate speekers by vega in the clubs.....

I bought these four years ago fresh out of college. Back then, resources like this web site were non-existent. The only thing I compared these to closely was the BOSE top of the line model. Fortunately, I was able to hear the superior sound from the DX-7's even though I am one to be taken by slick marketing. I can only say these have been great speakers for me. Powered by an inexpensive Pioneer pro logic receiver, these speakers sound great whether turned way up OR turned way down. I get fantastic bass, but I've never owned a powered subwoofer to compare it to. The lows do seem to lack detail, but when the whole room has that slight rumbling feel that is the background of most startrek movies, it is too cool. These were $500 a pair from SEARS 4 years ago, I saw them for $300 a year later. To summarize, these have been great speakers for me, but I am no audiophile. For the price, I don't see how anyone could be dissapointed in these speakers. I wouldn't expect state of the art reproduction for a few hundred dollars, but to my untrained ears, these sound great. They definitely put out some serious volume and bass. Soon I'll find out how they sound with a Yamaha 2095!!
