I bought a pair of DX-7's back in '93 for $550 at a local Sears Store. Would you believe my initial intentions were to throw them in my car and use them for booming rap and reggae music around town?My Sears card was the only line of credit I had at the time, (who needs cash, anyway?!) and their autosound department severely lacked decent equipment (pretty much the same state of affairs for them now!) I wanted the DX-9's w/ the 15" woofs, but my little Honda Civic Hatch just didn't quite have the room, even with the back seats down. I had the 7's running off of a Proton 150 watt amp and my Sony Discman (yup, didn't even have an in-dash stereo yet!) . I tell you what....those things sounded awesome! The bass was powerful, deep, and pretty accurate for the variety of music I put them through (from Sir Mix-a-Lot to Bob Marley to Mint Condition.) Even the highs were quite clear and accurate. I liked 'em so much, once-in-a-while I would throw em in my bedroom and hook em up to a little ole 20-watt amplifier I built in high school electronics class. I couldn't believe how loud they would play for such little power. Everything sounded crisp and punchy, and it even played some classical music with authority. I could feel the bass hit me from 10 feet away! Not bad for 20 watts RMS! Anyway, alot has changed now, and the cabinets have been altered. The mids and tweets are in separate bookshelf enclosures sitting on my desk near my computer, lovingly wired together by homemade 2-way crossovers. In my car trunk, the subwoofers remain in their origional cabinets, sans mids, tweets, and x-over, and MDF patches over the openings where the other drivers used to call home. The subs pound happily firing down into the spare tire well fed with 200 watts and provide me with a consistent 135db of pleasurable low frequencies (although the bass ain't QUITE as tight as it used to be, they ARE six years old, and how many things can you think of that get tighter with age? Ah...get your mind out of the gutter!) As for all the separated CV drivers, who knows when I'll retire the old boys, but I guess maybe I'll check out some VEGA 12's, build a nice box for them, and buy a bigger amp. Maybe I'll then reunite all of my DX-7 buddies in for a few more rounds in the old cabinets and put em back in my house, so I can shake the windows with my old 60-Watt Pioneer receiver, as the moons and planets re-align, and all is well. God bless Cerwin Vega! |

It's time to say something about this speakers, I know that the DX series speakers are top of line of Cerwin Vega catalog, and they deserve this place. For those who have a very wide spectrum of musical tastes I strongly recommend this model, the DX's doesn't have that characteristic sweetnes in strings commonly associated with higer end speaker brands, but they do a great job with rock, jazz, pop, etc., and of course they are also a good choice for not so critical clasical music listeners. |

I've had these for about 4 years now and I really like them. I bought them because I listen to heavy metal music LOUD, and they do a great job with rock music. I now use them mainly for home theater, and again, they do a wonderful job (a bit harsh, but THX ReEq takes care of that). I also don't need a powered sub (an extra $400+ for one). |
