Strength:

mega bass,nice mid's,glass shattering high's

Weakness:

can't seem to find any

it was time to get radical,i was really impressed by a friend's re-38's(who wouldn't be),but they would take up half my room,so i decided on the mighty ls-12's.I bought some 16 guage monster cable and have a technic's sa-ax540 reciever that has worked out great.no fuse's blown yet, even though i had ac/dc cranked so loud that it was like being at the concert,no distortion,no problem's.the clarity surprised me.I figured that these would be all about bass, but it's balanced right up through to mind blowing high's.anybody that's not happy is probably using really cheap cable or has a cheesy receiver, maybe even hearing problem's.i live in the country so there's no limit to how loud i can jam these, get out there and buy some ls-12's,you won't be bummed out.

Strength:

AWESOME bass response(can rattle the windows at lower frequencies)great sound for the price.

Weakness:

none I can find

I'd have to say that ive never heard a speaker out perform my LS-12's in bass. Yea of course The mids and highs arent crystal clear like a pair of klipsch or MandK's but thats probubly not the reason you are looking to buy these speakers. I am pushing them with my harman kardon 3470 home stereo receiver which is rated at a strong 100watts per channel. If your like me and into music with good strong bass and just dont have quite enough mney for a sub, these are for you.

This set of ls-12 are very good for music but not as good as home theater speaker because of woofer being so big it flops and cann't get into the start spot for new sound when there cars crash or some thing in a movie. but for music they kick ass tons of bass it you have the power and highs are great too.

Strength:

Lows at high volumes. Sale price ($150.00 each). Crisp & smooth bass. Overall quality for price.

Weakness:

Separation between highs and lows.

These first came to my attention on a trip to bestbuy to buy some new speakers, but at the 400 dollars (pair) price I could not see myself throwing away that much money; not having it in the first place. The speakers I had been using were quite old, but very good. I picked up (rented in a sense) a pair of cheap KLH speakers at bestbuy and took them back to my place. They were pretty bad and their price was about $120 (pair)

At the time I did not know the quality of speakers compared to price these days. A week later I took a trip back to bestbuy to return the crappy KLH speakers. Wanting some new speakers, and looking to spend minimal money, I did not want to leave bestbuy without a diff set. So I stayed there for an hour or so messing wth their amps and my cd's to see what might satisfy me. The LS-12 Cerwin Vega's had dropped in price to 189 each: temping.

So I brought them back to my place and gave them a chance. I was satisfied with the bass...Some of th best and most crsip bass I've heard from speakers of this sort. I have a Kenwood 100W per channel amp, and it handled them as far as it coudl for the price I paid for it. With certain highs at high volumes (very high nearing the limit of my amp), my amp shuts off. Overall I was much more satisfied, but not for as much as a paid. The sound could be crisper for music and movie, and I felt that if I was going to spend so much i should get what i pay for.

On a random trip to BestBuy the day after thankgiving, these same spekaers were on sale for almost 100 bucks cheaper. I did a price match and pciked thes babies up for 300. For 300, these are a GREAT buy. If ou have lots of money, pay the extra. If you want to get the best for 400, look for other products first. If you like hip/hop or club music and plan to play these at loud volumes, these ARE the speakers. For me, they work perfectly by doing that, and serving as a good 300 dollar midrange solution for my BROAD music tastes and simple movie viewing.

If you are an average/normal person who likes to listen to a lot of music and also wants some speakers to use for a home theater, these speakers will suit you just fine. The speakers are somewhere in between the low end and the high end in terms of quality. These speakers can handle all the low end you can throw at it, and the mids and highs are just fine. I will add that these speakers are no substitute for a powered sub woofer....anyone who has a powered sub woofer or has really heard a nice one could tell you that right away. So, don't think these speakers will deliver the earth shattering lows that a nice powered sub could. These speakers give you great bass--for a regular main speaker. Anyhow, I really researched and debated about what speakers to buy before I got settled on these. For the money, nothing beats these speakers. The best adjective to use would be "solid". The speakers will give you solid performance all the way around. You can also play them loud. Hell, I think I could throw them every watt my Yamaha 5460 has in it and these speakers would eat it up with a smile. That leads me to another thing....if you have anything less than a true 100 watt receiver, then maybe these are not the best speakers for you. They need to be driven pretty hard by a pretty powerful receiver. So, if
you have a 60 watt Sony receiver, maybe these aren't for you. If you were like me, you're probably driving yourself nuts researching, trying to find the nicest speakers you can and not spend a bundle or max out your gold card. These are probably it...solid speakers that will give you solid performance all the way around. I'm going with 5 stars on value, because the price is right, and a 4 stars on the overall rating because there are better sounding speakers out there (even at Best Buy), but none at this price or even close.

Strength:

Best you can get for the money

Weakness:

You get what you pay for.

As I was on a tight budget, The LS-12 were a great choice. For the coin, the specs are very impressive and so is the preformance. The mid-range is muddy due to a lack of insulation in a non-chambered cabinet. My system plays eight to ten hours a day, every day; sometimes at NASA volume. To be frank, I wore them out in two years and even melted the crossovers. At this point the only original parts left are the woofers (great speaker) and the X/Os. Everything else has been upgraded, modified and tweek to the point that I would put these up to any $2000 set. Easy system to work on.
The LS-12s are a better speaker the the LS-15s as the construction problems are enhanced in a larger cabinet. The LS-12s play very well with only a few watts of power but if you want NASA volume, you best have a good power amp with a lot of overhead. Upgrading the value of the fuse is risky as you may toast you amp. Good Speaker cable is a must to get the most from these speakers. Spike the cabinets too.
