All of you out there that are mercilessly bashing Cerwin Vegas, I hope you have taken a few things into account. Many variables such as room size, room composition, speaker placement, amplifier power, and amplifier design (most amps are NOT designed to handle a 4 ohm load) can have a HUGE impact on the sound of any speakers. My RE-30's are in a midsized bedroom with very solid walls, short carpeting, and very few sonically absorbing or resonating objects. I don't have the manual in my hand, but I do know that CV reccomends that the back of the speakers be placed about a foot or so from the wall. My left speaker is in a corner to further strengthen bass response. For all you Sony haters out there I'm running a STR-DE650 reciever that has a 4/8 ohm switch on it. This unit is rated at 225 watts per channel peak at 4 ohms so there is no shortage of juice. I've played it loud for three years and it hasn't overheated or tripped the protection once. This setup sounds great at all volumes; great definition and clarity, and they POUND! when you want them to. (anyone who says these speakers can't go low, pop in some SUBLIME and set your speakers up right-you'll be surprised) For the nimrod wondering why his bass is distorted when he has his 100W/channel amp turned up half way, you are overloading you amp big guy. First of all, I bet his system is not even rated for 4 ohms and his bass knob is probably set at +50db or so. That has nothing to do with the speakers. A buddy of mine has the same speakers powered by Nakamachi reciever with the same power rating-I've heard mini-systems that sound better. The reason, bad placement and an accoustically poor room. He has shag carpeting, soft walls and lots of music absorbing objects. The speakers are placed randomly-the treble and mid sounds decient I guess, but the bass is feeble at best and the only thing that shakes below 50Hz is the room. The moral of the story is, the only way you can really compare these (or any other speakers for that matter) is to compare with other brands in the same room with the same amp. (If that amp is rated to the speaker's resistnace) Granted you get what you pay for-If I wasn't a budget imposed college student, I'd probably have huge ass Definitive Technology tower's pushed by a jillion dollar Sunfire amp. For the money though, you can't beat the Vegas. The only reason I didn't give the RE-30's five stars, is that I'm sure it wouldn't have cost CV much more to make polypropelyne woofers with a rubber surround instead of paper cones and foam surround. These speakers have to last until I get a real job! |

I bought a pair of Re-30 and I love them. They have great bass and solid mid and highs. They are a great bang for the buck speaker. |

This is the dormroom speaker, if I ever saw one. Cheap, heavy bass, loud, and obnoxius just like your average Fratboy. If you're into resolution buy something else. But, if you want to throw kicking parties, watch movies with lots of explosion, this speaker will take you straight to lala-land. If loud is what you want, get these. Make sure you have the amp to power them though (4 Ohm is stressful for a lot of amps.) |

Strength:
LOUD!!! Sound is clear and crisp if you know how to work an EQ. Seems some below don't understand that concept... Tried and passed with flying colors at 30 Hz. Will even go lower!!! ALMOST imposible to blow them up
Weakness:
Big in size, needs port work(smooth them out), Stuff keeps falling off my walls. Where do I start? These speakers rock!!! I've had them in various sized rooms and they fill them all(granted in physical size as well) with awsome sound!! I would definatly buy another pair if I had to. Even at low volumes, they can shake a room. The one thing I will say that has been mentioned below is that you do need a high end amp to push them. I'm running an H/K 100 watt RMS integrated amp with 12 gauge monster cable and they are pretty evenly matched. Without a good amp they will sound awful. I've had ALOT of people tell me they sound good. I've even talked to high end audio dealers and they are impressed with them. No they don't have the sound field of a $1000-$1500 pair of speaker, but yet some $1000-$1500 speakers don't either. Similar Products Used: KLH, EV, Eclipse, JBL, Pioneer, Kliptch, DCM |

These are some great speakers! Only $400 a pair from Best Buy. They have great bass and on top of that, a nice midrange and tweeter. Music is extremely crisp. What a value! I got a free RE SERIES center channel with it for free, too ($150 value) |

I am very pleased with this product. I didn't know a pair of speakers costing so little could deliver so much. Sure, there are more expensive speakers out there that sound as good and/or have "better Specs..." However, there are also people out there paying $3000 for a MacIntosh pre-amp when we are in the digital age. Some people like to know that they are getting what is perceived as the best (although Mac is great stuff!!! don't get me wrong). The bottom line is that for the money, you can't buy a better pair of speakers anywhere. In fact, you can pay a lot more and get a lot less. |

I was looking back at some of the reviews from much earlier on these speakers, and what the people say makes little sense to me. I think these speakers sound great, especially when you realize that they are $400 a pair, and also come with a free center channel if you buy them at best buy. I agree that they could use a little more mid-range, but that seems like a trivial thing to complain about when you are getting such a great set of speakers for the price. The bass is loud and clear, especially at lower volumes and unless you are really busting out sound (like concert loud), the mid and high end are great as well. I bought these to replace a pair of JBL Towers and I would recommend them every time. Can't beat the value, or the sound for less than $1000. Not the greatest speakers made, but for the money, they are. |

These vegas have graet sound. They handle 250 watts and take it all without distortion. The lows are low, but the tweets can sometimes be earpiercing. The mids are great. These speakers offer great soundstaging and for the average retail(200 apiece) they perform like 800 to 1000 dollar speakers.specs: |
