As I was reading the reviews that are listed, I noticed pretty much 2 opinions. These speakers are great because they have good clear sound and extra bass. The others didn't like them because of next to no treble response or the treble was to much. My personal opinion-buy them right now. I challenge you to go to an audio store and listen to the 'KX 12 series 2' and find a better set for $1000 or less. Won't happen. I looked around for about 2 weeks to determine what I wanted. I will admit that I like an edge on bass, but clarity is also very important. I bought these speakers took them home and was somewhat disappointed at first because they lacked in mids and highs. I bought some Blackbird horn tweeters and that really helped. A little later on however, I bought some speaker stands (Circuit city carries them). They were wood stands that support my speakers very well. This increased the clarity to make these speakers a five for me. For all you out there that want clarity here is a few tips. First buy some stands or something to put your speakers on. General rule of thumb is to get the mid range ear level. Secondly visit www.dolby.com. That will tell you everything that you will need to get things going. They recommend LR speaker going down to 45 HZ (most theaters that is the case ie the sub covers the rest). These cover down to 25 HZ. (a good sub woofer should respond from 3 HZ all the way to 120 HZ) I shopped around to look for a sub woofer and the best that I could find was a Boston Accoustics that responded to 18 HZ. ($1500). General hearing range is 20 HZ to 20,000 KhZ. Most music and movies covers that only. So, basically if you buy these speakers, you'd go out to buy a sub woofer for the lower 20-25 HZ which would cost too much. You ask why I went through all of this? You go out and buy your $1500 speakers and subwoofer for another $750 OR buy these for about $400 for a pair. Only reason to buy a subwoofer would be for more bass (and will these you DON'T need that). Thirdly make sure that you have a good reciever that gets a decent mix of sound. If you don't have one that does that even after adjusting controls, buy an EQ (with a graphic display) and buy a cd with white noise. Place Treble and Bass knobs in the center, play the white noise with the EQ connected. Adjust the knobs so that each frequency is playing right in the middle (Called flat lining your radio). Then place a CD with music that you like and adjust the Bass and Treble knobs on you RECIEVER to your liking. That is going to get the cleanest sound possible. I think that the people that reviewed these speakers have absolutely no idea what they are talking about or they are using bad equipment. |

Strength:
Solid Bass freq. reproduction with warm midrange. High sensitivity. Good looks, too!
Weakness:
High frequency reproduction is just close to unacceptable. No imaging most likely because of bad tweeters. This speaker is for (rock/rap) concert loving people! The horn tweeter explains this point very well. The sound is harsh and can be annoying to people who prefer soft/low sound levels. This speaker is not ideal for small rooms. If you like details (sound imaging) in your music this is certainly should not be your choice of speaker. The midrange/bass frequencies are not colored unlike the fancy expensive speakers you may buy from Polk/Infinity/Bose (crap) - I hate those little speakers attached to a big sub setup. Strength:
Clean and crisp sound, great hi's, great lo's. So-So price of $425.010.
Weakness:
There really are none. Wow! These are wonderfull speakers, I looked at JBL 500's,the Bose 501's, Technics notsure model no( 2 15 inch woofers, 3 1/2 tweeter, 2 6 inch mids), and the list goes on. I was pretty much sold on the Technics, until I heard the DCM KX-12 II, these speakers have concert like sound and deep bass (they pretty much cover my Bose 501's at high levels)! Wow, what a speaker, get out and buy these today. Similar Products Used: Bose 501, Cerwin Vega, Technics. |

Strength:
Very sensitive, need very little power.
Weakness:
Not the greatest sounding speaker in the world. If boomy bass is your bag and you can snag a set of these speakers for less than 150 dollars, go for it. These speakers are for the budget minded listener who loves it loud. These speakers will crank out the highs and the bass with all the volume you would ever need. The DCM KX-12's are not the last word in clairity, but chances are that if you are looking for budget equipment like these speakers, you just want to listen to music and forget about everything else. The best advise that I could offer when using these speakers is to keep them far away from walls, as they are a boomy speaker to start with and careful placement can help that problem. Overall not a bad speaker for jamming the tunes a high volumes. Similar Products Used: KLH,Bose,JBL,DEFTECH,Polk,B&W,Martin Logan,Paradigm, PSB, Jammo, radio shack Floorstanders |

Strength:
Loud, strong, surprisingly good mids and highs. Dirt Cheap price. Indestructibly teenager proof. Best bang for buck I've ever seen.
Weakness:
Heavy, bulky, cheesy cabinets, flimsy cabinets and grils. If you want a cheap, loud, strong yet surprisingly detailed speaker. This is it. You simply can't get a better speaker than this at this price point, period. Not for the true audiophile but I hooked up a girlfriend with a budget 2 channel stereo system and these are the speakers I went with. She loves em and can hammer em with all the wattage they can take. You can hear these speaks half a mile away, she lives in the country, and they still sound good. If you can get em cheap, get em. Strength:
Gigantic bass, great at loud volumes
Weakness:
Sound quality is not the best I don't own this product, but I have heard it A LOT. It is much like the newer DCM 12a, but it was more expensive. The bass is a blast-you-out-of-this-world type experience, you don't need a subwoofer. So if gigantic bass is your thing, and you still like the mids and highs in there, buy this speakers ( or buy a 12A, better highs and mids) Similar Products Used: DCM 12A |

Strength:
Great Over all sound stage and imaging
Weakness:
Head room extension I believe that for the money paid these speakers are an excellant value. I found the sound similar to Advents ( Mini's and Baby III's) only larger. I have four of these speakers for my Surround sound system and am very pleased with the sound in general. But wish they had a better high end. They are not perfectly "Flat" and have a 7 - 9 dB Spike at the 6000 kHz range, but from what I have read this is normal for an inexpensive speaker. If you are on a budget, and like LOUD music, or movies these speakers are for you. I have them mounted on 22" stands to improve the sound stage and imageing. IF I had the money I'd get more expensive speakers . But I can't afford $1000 + per speaker for something that sounds betterto my ears. I recommend that you audition these and if you can't decided, try an A/B test with another you are considering. Either way give them a try! Similar Products Used: Infinity SM series |

I was looking for a complete stereo system and wandered into Curcuit City. After listening to JBL, Bose and DCM, I think the DCM KX 12 series two is the best buy for the buck. These speakers have deep, strong bass and smooth mid and high response, to my ears. I especially like them as I don't need a sub woofer to get the bottom end punch that I love in Rock music. These speakers remind me of 'the old days' before satelite speakers took over. These speakers rock and are very clean sounding. |

When i walked into Circuit City with Bose, or Infinity towering speakers in mind. But when i finally got there and tested all these high brand speakers, they seemed way overpriced for what they were. Infinity sounded pretty good, but there was no bass, and they cost $350. So out of desperation i tested the DCM KX12 series two, and they were...well...dream machines. Excellent bass, midrange, and tweeter for only $189.99. They could have cost $450 or more and i would have bought them...I guess that if you like your music loud, undistorted, SUPER tweeter, EXCELLENT midrange, ROCKING 12" woofer, and you appreciate wattage (250 watts), then gets these. If you want to pay too much for what you're getting, get the popular name brands. Advice: 1) Use these speakers with a 100 watts per channel, 8 ohms, 0.09% or lower THD, and bass and treble controls speaker. 2)If you're out to buy a surround sound system, buy the KXseries2 center channel, and the KX 7 series2 surround speakers, because they work very well in colaboration. In short, these speakers will rock any music lover with it's high tweeter, excellent 6" mid range, and a whopping 12", 25Hz, woofer. |
