These are quite possibly some of the worst loudspeakers i have ever heard. there is no clarity and the imaging is horrible. you would be much beter off spending more money to get a better pair of speakers.

I purchased my KX-12's about two years ago and I have been very pleased. These speakers are for philes who have a taste for BASS!. I don't know of any that can compare in that department (and yes I have auditioned Definitive Techs. and I say save your money). For those who favor rap, R&B, or rock these are for you. The mid and highs aren't awesome but they are pretty close. Wheather used as stereo or Home Theater speakers they will more that pull their own weight. For Home Theater use you don't need a sub. One of the nicest features is the low power required to makes these monsters boom. I use a rather low powered receiver(50 watts per channel) and I only crank it up 1/4 of the way and the house shakes quite nicely. If your music taste if of the Classical genre or some other mellow crap then you should stay away from these because that means you are too old to handle these baby's and they will probably shake your hearing aid loose.

I bought my KX-12 one year ago today. I immediatly took the woofers out of the cabinets to see how they are constructed. There is no baffle between the mid and low woofers. I was curious why they distorted so greatly at higher volumes. I have a Onkyo TX-8511 Reciever driving them. I have the high frequency control turned up (treble) considerably. At low volume with the treble turned up these are a nice value. Turn the volune up on my 110 reciever and everything goes to mush. Its a shame the manfacture didn't enclose the low frequency driver better, it would have made a big difference.

Strength:

Good bass, but in the right room. They play very loud.

Weakness:

What is wrong with those highs.Highs distort too much with some music.I was powering them with a kenwood but switched to a Harmon Kardon hoping I would get better highs but It didn't happen, I did get much better bass. Ears still hurt.

If you don't mind those nasty highs, and you like it loud buy them, but if you want smooth sound stay away from them. I bought mine for $100,and no they were not open box, so i don't really complain.

Excellent powerful bass. Clarity good at all ranges, unlike comparable speakers (uh hum, Cerwin Vega). Efficiency is superb. Great for fairly large, preferably carpeted room. Excellent bang for the buck at $350 a pair. I strongly them if you are on a budget and have an amp that can handle 4ohm speakers.

If loud nausiating bass is what you want, these are for you. If you want to listen to music, get anything else. After about 10 minutes of listening these, at high volume, I was physically sick.At reasonable volume, the midrange and highs are poor at best.

Strength:

Awsome sound, deep bass, looks good in any house.

Weakness:

none

I am amazed at the differences in opinion about these speakers. What's not to like about them ? My guess is that whoever listened and didn't like the sound must've got some damaged ones. I liked them so much, I bought the matching powered subwoofer to go with it. The Matrix sounds awsome on a dolby digital receiver with these speakers.

Strength:

Great sound, specs, and price.

Weakness:

Kind of large, but what do you expect for a 12, 6, and tweeter in one box?

I don't understand why some of these people gave these speakers such horrible reviews. I bought the open-box floor models for 75 bucks each 3 years ago. I have been thoroughly impressed. I compared them to Bose and Infinity when I bought them and these had the best overall sound of any large speakers there. Anyway, yes, these speakers provide great heavy bass and good overall sound. I use them for music and movies and have had no complaints. In fact, I have friends who have bought larger complete home theater systems and my two DCM 12's (without surround sound) sound better than their fronts, center, rears, and woofer combined. These speakers are an AWESOME complement to the Sega Dreamcast. I highly recommend these speakers, especially at the price. I also plan on buying some rear and center channel speakers from DCM to complete the home theater experience.

Strength:

Very loud good sounding speaker

Weakness:

You'll burn up your amp if not carefull

I have had nothing but good coments about these speakers. One bad thing is if you dont push everything on your shelves back they will shake off and you will never hear it break. Size is not an issue I have a very large living that needs space taken up, I just want to know from the people who cry about to much bass is WHY DONT YOU INVEST IN A GRAPHIC EQ. MOST RECEIVERS ARE NOT DESIGNED FOR GOOD SOUND SEPARATION!!!! I'm useing a technics SA-EX510 receiver and they blast the room at half throttle. Looking for a second pair!!!!

I am greatly impressed with these speakers. First of all if you don't like bass why would you buy these speakers? I found that the bass is not at all distorted. At high volumes I don't hear any signs of distortion or crackling. Most crackling is due to the fact of not having enough power. Which causes the anyoing poping noise at high volumes. Everyone has the garage sale maniac friend who spends more money on the size of their speakers then the wattage of their amp. If the bass to high then turn it down! If you want to talk about distortion I have a fifteen inch cerwin vega powered sub. It will make you sonically sick enough to puke.

I recomend these for any type of music (even classical if you set up your reciever correctly)
