Jason, what wiring method did you use for the bass? To get great bass with both movies and music, you should wire these speakers "full range" (using the "full range low level in" on the speaker and sending this to the "pre out" and "main in" on the receiver via y-connector). This helps bass tremendously. |

Strength:
Very Powerfull, clean,smooth,detailed sound.
Weakness:
None Recently my system consisted of 1 pair of AR3s upfront, the AR2c, and 1 pair of AR7 in the back, combined with a Velodyne FSR15 sub. This was a great system. I decided to try Def Tech. I recieved my BP2000tls yesterday, I moved the Similar Products Used: AR, NHT, Boston Acoustic |

Strength:
Lots of sound
Weakness:
Quantity, not quality Great for filling a room, good for HT applications. Not very musical. Clinical at the best of times, and a little boomy. Midrange is harsh. |

I really hate to post again, but Paul's review is pretty sparse and I would like to clarify some things. Clearly he has not heard the 2000TL's set up properly, driven by a nice DETAILED amp. If they are wired full range, they are NOT boomy. Placement is really critical too. I have heard some refer to def techs as laid back...but definitely NOT having harsh mids (actually most people point to the mids as one of the strong points for these speakers, and if anything there is warmth to the mids, not harshness). I wonder if Paul heard these speakers at home (preferably in a large room), fully broken in, toed in with no obstructions for the side firing subs, wired full range, and hooked up to a nice receiver/amp (like the dspA1). These may not be the end all in music reproduction, but to post a review like that with no details and no support is ridiculous. |

Strength:
Sound great with a variety of material in both music and home theater.
Weakness:
Heavy. (Don't forget to attach the supplied feet for balance.) I have had the 2000tl less than two weeks. I love them. After reading many other reviews, I must admit that I agree with much of what has been said. The full range low level in is the best connection for managing bass--definitely tightens up the low range. Being a teacher and taking a year off to get my master's, spending a lot of money on stereo equipment is something I can afford to do very infrequently. However, when Hawkeye Audio advertised these speakers at $1999 and took my trade-ins, it was too good of an offer to pass up. I am one of those who believe all of ones resources should be spent on getting the speaker of choice. So, if you can believe this, I use a Panasonic SAX6 receiver to drive them. Going against all advice, I wired the sub out to the full range low level in and have not found any sonic material to be missing. I love the sub level control on the receiver and use it to make minor adjustments for the varying bass content in music. (Having spent more than a few hours in studios with recording engineers, I know that mixing audio is far from an exact science.) A former professional bassist (New Jersey/New York and Nashville), and a former tuba major at The University of Iowa, I know music. I have sung with the Nashville Opera and Symphony Chorus, and performed with various orchestras and bands on both electric bass and tuba. For those who have difficulty achieving the sound they desire, I would suggest this. Clean your ears, adjust your rooms for the best acoustics (add/subtract carpeting, add/subtract wall hangings, try every imaginable speaker placement, etc.) and you'll gain a lot more in sonic improvement than you will in spending outrageous sums in speaker wire, amplification, and peripherals. I use my old BP 8's for surround and my old df1000 for the center. I use the hall setting on the receiver for orchestral music, the club setting for pop/rock, and the theater setting for surround sound. Minor adjustments in the center channel, surround speakers, and bass mangement are always going to be needed to keep up with those audio engineers who just can't seem to be born of the same genetic material, but c'est la vie. The 2000tl's are probably not the best speakers on the market, but they have a relatively small footprint (9" wide) and work great for all kinds of music and theater. I have experienced other speakers I prefer better for music, but not for home theater and none that do a better job for both at anywhere near the 2000tl price range. If your taste in music and video sound vary as much as mine, these are speakers to go with. |

Strength:
Beautiful cabinet ,bipolar , clear highs/mids , AMAZING BASS !!!!!
Weakness:
So heavy , 125 lbs. !!! (doesnt really matter though) These speakers are amazing . If your considering buying these speakers BUY THEM , and heres why : very clear highs and mids , the bipolar design produces sound the way it was meant to sound , the bass is so precise it can go down to 15hz ,which means you can really FEEL the bass ,2 15" 500 watt drivers !!! Very musical speaker (in my opinion) , perfect for home theater . Similar Products Used: Energy veritas , |

I had a Dyn Countor setup that I bought based on reviews, although very good on music, it lacked the dynamics I was looking for in ht, after numerous speaker auditions I found the Def bp 2000 tl, I was blown away on how good they sounded, I also bought the matching def 2000 clr center, the center is very good, but not as good as the dyn countor center which I consider the best I have ever heard, I consider the Def bp 2000 tl speakers the best in there price range, having a built in powered sub is a big plus, I no longer have to keep trying to adjust separate sub woofers to match the front speakers |

I have owned the BP2000tl for about 9 months. I use them as my front l/r in a home theater setup, driving with a Carver TFM25. The Def Tech's are absolutely the best sounding speaker I have heard in my listening environment for the money. The high end is bright, but has considerable depth, so that the sound field is very wide when listening to music (my first love). However, the bipolar design (and the vertical d 'Appolito config) offers excellent image placement for individual instruments and voices, and is outstanding with movies. The bass output is rock solid, and never boomy. With two 15"s and 500 watts each in a pair, you can feel it!. I have found no source that seems limited with these loudspeakers, and I have tried them all. Absent spending an extraordinary sum of money, I can't imagine having a better sound. If your layout permits you the option of towers, you should give these a listen. From Aerosmith to Jewel to Rebecca Pigeon to Shania Twain to Armageddon, I love em! |
