Strength:

Solid bass, great tweeter

Weakness:

Boxy and huge. Socks rather than grilles.

These babies have solidified my home theater setup, but something a bit unexpected has resulted. They sound just as good with music! I think if I'd have bought them FOR music, I would've gone with the BP2000TLs, but these are great. Very pleased. 5 stars.

Strength:

I used to have the Pro Cinema 400 sytem. Well they sounded good but had some weak areas, see my reviews. I decided to go big and upgrade my speakers, so I bought the BP2002TL for the front and back, C/L/R 2002 and PF15TL just for LFE. Well I hooked up these speakers with all jumpers in place and let them break in for about 200 hours. These speakers sound wonderful! And after break in they sound smoother. I thought I would try bi-wiring them, well let me tell you it made the already big sound stage even bigger! The voices sounded much more natural and detailed. I used 10 gauge Monster Cable with Radio shack Bananna plugs. I have them toed in perfictly. A friend of mine came over to listen to two channel music and he asked if I had my center channel speaker on, how is that for sharp imaging! when watching DVDs the sound effects arent just left or right it sounds like the whole side of the room became part of the movie effect! The bass is extreamly tight and deep. When I listen to music I turn my PF15TLs crossever down to 40 Hrz and let the BP2002TLs belt out most of the bass. I love everything about these speakers. Like I said before I do not send LFE to any of the BP2002TLs. Bi-wire these speaers and you will be amazed, a very good upgrade that only cost me $60. I traded in my Pro Cinema 400 system and got full price towards my new speakers. It worked out to $2000 a pair for the BP2002TLs, $599 for the PF15TL, and $438 for the C/L/R 2002. I cant imagine any better sound! I would have bought the BP2000TL but with my big sub for LFE I did'nt feel the extra cost was worth it. Tell you the truth the BP2002TLs sounded better then the BP2000TLs with music material. I recommend these to anyone with a taste for good sound!
My set up:
Denon AVR-3300 receiver
Sony DVP-S530 dvd player (music/DVDs)
Panisonic VCR
Toshiba 36" TV
BP2002TL two pair font and back
C/L/R 2002 center
PF15TL LFE sub
Philips Pronto remote
Terk Pi AM/FM antenna
All Monster Cables and Power Conditioners
Radio Shack Gold Banna Plugs

Happy Listening

Strength:

Kick ass bass

Weakness:

Cabinet noise at certain frequencies. Grill sock covers the whole speaker and will likely be difficult to clean the dust out of.

I got these speakers a couple of weeks ago and I love them. I have a feeling my neighbors hate them... hee hee. These speakers kick ass. I was disappointed at first but after a few hours of messing around and tuning the placement in my living room I am thrilled with the sound - the lows, the highs, and everything in between. Beautiful rich full sound and incredible imaging, although the speakers do have to sit about 20" from the wall for this sound and they are kind of in the way in my living room. I'll cope.

My biggest disappointment was when I discovered cabinet noise at a certain frequency. The noise appears to come from rattling of the LFE input connectors on the rear panel (I am not using this input) on both speakers. Luckily the rattle only occurs at a very limited range of frequency so it doesn't occur often. I plugged some cords into the connectors and the noise appears to be gone.

Strength:

clear, here alot of detail in music, movies are awsume;bass is tight(perfect)great soundstaging.

Weakness:

none

extremely happy with them, music is detailed, movies are great because of the bipolar setup you hear things in the front area but it's not exactly right pinpoint there which makes movies enveloping. it's a hell of an experience. i can't do them justice with this keyboard.highly recommend them.

Strength:

Incredible sound, nice design

Weakness:

none so far

After a long period of testing and saving my money i finally purchased a pair of definitive tech 2002tl and it was worth every penny. For the first week alone i had to listen to all my cd's again and for almost everyone there was something i had missed the first time. The speakers are great, if still undecided go out and take a listen to them.

Full, enveloping sound

What more can be said about these speakers? IMHO they are, bar none, the best HT speaker out there in the 1500-2500 price range.

For music, they have an outstanding soundstage, good imaging(with proper placement) and wonderful clarity.

The experience of DVD movies on these awesome speakers leads me to believe I won't be going to the Theater very much anymore.

The dual subs can be overwhelming for the significant other, but, the kids love the impact of the "big screen" experience.

Overall, I don't think anyone could be sorry they purchased these, however, some so called "audiophiles" might not like their perceived "lack of imaging" just because they're bi-polar.

My setup as of this moment:

Marantz SR-7000
DefTec BP2000TL Fronts
DefTec CLR2000 Center
DCM TimeFrame 600 Rears
Toshiba TP55H95 RPT
Toshiba SD-5109 DVD

This system provides a great viewing environment in my medium sized viewing room (16x15)

Wide dynamic range
Clairity at highs
Very low distortion
mid range and highs

Weakness:

placement critical

I bought a set of Definitive 2004s approx 6 months ago and I was very happy with them. I then heard the 2002tls and was amazed at the imaging improvement and bass quality, so I bought a pair of them also. I have the 2002tls as my fronts and I have bi-wired them with 12 gauge monster cable.I have not had the chance to connect the speaker's base management input yet to my subwoffer output, but I am planning on it.

For my rears I kept the 2004s and they too are connected with the same monster cable. I am powering the speakers with a Yamaha 995 reciever. The reciever only outputs sound to the fronts in stereo mode, so I have connected all 4 speakers to the A & B main outputs. I plan on buying a A/B switcher box so that I can electro/mechanically switch the rear speakers from the "B main" outputs to the "rear speaker" outputs for movies.

The nice part of this system is that it plays music fully and envelopes the listener with clear imaging that is truly awsome. When we watch a movie we are surrounded with sound that makes the movie realistic. I am very happy with this setup and would like to purchase a Definitive powered center speaker in the future.

I can now fully understand why a person purchases a larger higher quality bi polar speaker like the Defs.

Strength:

Incredible range and accuracy; Highly detailed and well imaged sound plus they are nice to look at (spouse's comment!)

Weakness:

Hard to find dealer willing to discount (no fault of the speaker)

Had an excellent experience with a set of Def Tech's ProCinema 100's that were wired into my new master bedroom so when it came time to do the media room I figured I'd give their larger siblings a listen.

Did a lot of auditioning before purchasing a new home theater rig for a new house. My beloved Polk SDA-SRS 2.3's were just too large and generated too much sound pressure for the new media room.

Went with the BP 2002TL's in the front since they actually sounded better to me than the 2000TL in demonstration of musical CD's; also somewhat smaller and a whole lot less $$$. With the extra money (!) I bought the CLR 2500 center with the powered subwoofer and a pair of BPX's for the rears. All speakers have identical mid drivers and tweeters - the effect of this linear presentation on 5.1 and DTS DVD's is simply incredible and needs to be experienced to be believed. Even though they are not yet fully broken in (takes 60 hours) they fill my room with some of the richest sound I've ever heard. I'm hearing nuance on time worn favorites in my CD collection that I've simply not heard before!

If your contemplating a speaker upgrade in the future, you owe it to yourself to give these a listen.

Strength:

nice octave-to-octave balance
stable imaging
wide dynamic range
clarity in mid-range and highs
tight base, nicely integrated into midrange
effiency

Weakness:

placement critical

I have a very difficult room, and could never get my old BP 8's and Powerfield 15 "dialed in". The BP2002 TL's tamed the room, and gave me a much smoother mid-range as a bonus. I listened to the BP2000TL's, but the modest sonic improvements did not justify the nearly 100% jump in price.

One thing I have not seen in the other reviews that I believe to be important is warranty service. I "blew" a tweeter in my old BP 8's, and Definitive Technologies replaced the tweeter (installed by the dealer)within five working days... without questions or a hassle. Try that at Best Buy.

Be sure to at least audition these speakers when you are ready to buy.

Strength:

Slim, Beautiful, unobtrusive and fantastic sound!

Weakness:

None that I can think of.

I tried the Def Tech's on a wim one day while on luch break. I really had not planned on purchasing anything different. I was the proud owner of Klipsh legends up front and Reference bookshelf models in the rear. I told the gentleman to audition the 2006tl with fantasia in the player. In a nutshell, Major clarity and spacial definition! I was so impressed, I purchased the 2002tl without an audition. If the 2006tl could sound that good, the 2002tl, could only be better. I was right. I have paired them with a 2500 center and BPX rears and a 15tl sub. I am amazed at the ease at which these speakers breakdown complex scenes and seperate sounds that would have otherwise been mixed up in a muddled mess with the Klipsch. I'm not bashing the Klipsch by and stretch of the imagination. They have a nitch...Mainly very loud two channel listening. If you want home theater and two channel, the Def Tech's are the better choice. I could not be happier with the Def Tech line of products.
