My original intention was to purchase a set of B&W 602's to replace my dead CV's but after auditioning the B&W's, Def Techs, and Paradigm speakers in the same price range I found that the Def Techs provided the sound I looking for. I don't suggest that anyone should go and purchase these speakers based on my opinion, but decide by the way they sound to you and how they fit your audio needs. |

Strength:
These are speakers have a lot of crisp detail. They also have surprising bass.
Weakness:
Slightly honky midrange. I've found for certain genres you need to cut the mids at the receiver (e.g., classical guitar). Also, while the bass is full, I have not found speaker positioning yet that will make it really tight (it swells a bit). These speakers were by far the best I heard. The sound is pretty exciting and will grab your attention. The imaging, as everyone mentions, is excellent and the bipolar thing is more than a gimmick - the sweet spot is huge. Highly recommended if you have the floor space. Similar Products Used: Presage, ADS. Listened extensively while shopping to Polks (R40s), Bose 301s, Paradigms (various) |

Great speakers! They go very well with my NAD 314 and Marantz CC 65SE. They do a great job for the classic music. Very good stage and coloration. For small rooms and budgets they are the best choice if you like Mahler (Sym. 2,5 and 8) or Berlioz ("Harold in Italy") |

Almost purchased a set of these a short time ago, but a closer look at the quality of the bass/mid drivers stopped me from buying. The sound, especially in home-theatre mode, is seductive; but, how long would those drivers last? |

Strength:
Awesome sound projection(soundstage), VERY crisp highs, good mids/bass(for the price)
Weakness:
At this price, you can't complain. I recently have been in the market for some better quality speakers for my new reciever in which I just upgraded. I looked everywhere, escpecially Circuit City(POLK and Infinity), Best Buy(JBL and CerwinVega). It was until I was driving around and saw a sign that said "Marvin's Electronics: We specialize in Home Theatre equipment" that I realized exactly what I was looking for. They carried EVERYTHING, from B&W and Def. Tech. speakers to Marantz and McIntosh recievers/amplifiers. The sales associate let me hear ALL the speakers that they carry, the B&W's, Paradigm, Definitive Tech., etc. The B&W's sounded awesome but were a bit out of my price range, so, I decided on the Definitive Techs., they were on sale for $899.99 for the pair. I told the guy I would be back the following weekend after I got my paycheck. From their I left and headed back home, I stopped at a pawn shop just to see if they had any good movies for sale. I walked in hoping to get a few DVD's or VHS tapes when I saw two tall black speaker towers much like the ones I had just looked at. I thought to my self, "No way are those Def. Techs.", but sure enough they were, and they were marked $300 for the pair. They were in PERFECT condition, not a single scratch or tear in the "stocking". I grabbed them up and the guy told me he didn't know why I was buying some "No-Name" speakers when he had some Sony's and RCA speakers there. He obviously didn't know what he had. I reached in my wallet and pulled out $300, upon pulling it out the guy said "Your total is $150.00", I nearly dropped to my knees. He said that they were half-off, I couldn't believe my luck!! I paid and went straight home not even looking for the movies as I intended. I hooked them up and was amazed by the amount of sound produced. They have CRISP highs and above average mid-range. The Bi-Polar design is genius. These are speakers WELL worth buying, especially at the price I got them for. All I can say is, CHECK YOUR LOCAL PAWN SHOPS, you might get lucky as I did!!! |

Strength:
Subtle beauty, crisp highs, imaging, floor spikes,
Weakness:
True deep powerful bass( good for the design/price), powerful midrange Let me start off by saying, my cousin invented a speaker that won the "show stopper" award in New York City. It is an extremely good speaker. Nothing compares to it for the price. However, I stupidly got rid of them a few years back when I needed the money. Since then the small speaker manufacture that my cousin had established lost its financial backing so I could not get any more of the Digital Phases'. I know, I know get to the point. Anyway I was forced out into the general publics' speaker market with a limited budget. I went to Circuit City first and looked at the Polk Audio speakers. Next I went to a local Hi Fi shop and that is where I found my Definitive BP-6bs. They looked so much more "upscale" than did the Polks. When I listened to them, and how they reproduced sound they were very much like the feel that I got from the DP. And at only 600.00 per pair they fit the nitche I was searching for. I love the way these speakers sound and look. I have just purchased the Mission 701's, a Wharfedale Opal center channel, and an AudioSource sub to complete my home theater setup. I am using a Denon AVR-1600 receiver, and it sounds great. I still miss my DP speakers though. Similar Products Used: Digital Phase AP-1 |
