Strength:

Good Value

Weakness:

The speaker terminals are very hard to reach. It is located at the bottom of the speaker

The overall performance of the speakers are relatively good with the price paid. The speakers are very musical instead of classical. Once I turned it on, I felt it was sounds really nice with good bass level for 5.25 inch drivers. When I bought them, I compared with Boston and Polk Audio with about the same price, but as a results, Definitive was still above of them with detail sounds and higher level of bass. It is a very nice speakers, specially when I upgraded all the caps into Infinicaps, MIT exotica, and Hovland musicap.....it really sounds like $5000 speaker.

This speakers were amazed me at one of Audio King store in the Cities. I didn't plan to buy any speakers at that time, but once I enter a room with BP6B along with other customers and a salesman, I was surprised with the sound from this Def tech BP6B. The highs were so detail, and the bass was tight and deep compared to polk, infinity, boston, and klipsch with the same price. I analyzed more in depth, I found that the tweeters are the same with def tech bp 3000 (flagship of Def tech). No wonder it sounds really nice. Hopefully the salesman didn't get angry after I undressed his BP6B to look at the drivers.....:).....good job DEFTECH!..

Strength:

Great imaging. Decent bass for the woofer size. Small footprint, great natural sound.

Weakness:

Lacking on bass.

I love these speakers. I sat in audio king for two hours listening to a pair of infinity's reference series, some really nice polks, and I decided that the DefTechs were by far the best value, and possessed truly great sound. I plan to eventually use them as rear channel speakers when I upgrade.. clean, clean, clean sound! Bring a good variety of CDs when you try out speakers - I find Jazz reveals many a cheap speaker's weaknesses.

Strength:

I have three words for you...Imaging, Imaging, Imaging

Weakness:

Dont expect much on the low end. Base is satisfactory though for a small bipole

I have never listened that closely to Mirage bipolars, but from what I can tell they are in the same league as the BP6s. There maybe other bipoles out there to compare too. Mirage comes to mind. Nevertheless, bipolar speakers rock, especcially for hometheater/surround applications. It just makes sense. If you can flood the front walls with sound with the diffusion achieved through bipolars like the BP6, youre movie viewing experience is sure to be enhanced. I'll never go back to forward firing standards again.

I've had by BP6s for about 18 months and love 'em. I auditioned Cerwin-Vega, Klipsch, Bose, Eosone, and others before buying. Only the Klipsch came close, but for SEVERAL times the price. I listen to all kinds of music and they sound great on almost everything. The rapid double bass in my Pantera CD could be a little more defined, but that's the ONLY negative thing I can say. My receiver and CD player are Sony and I now recognize what a huge mistake that was. While comparing some receivers (to replace the Sony) at circuit city tonight, I was going through the various speakers to find something that sounded like my BP6's. I had to step up to a pair of approx $5000 Polks to get something that sounded about the same!! Until I upgrade my receiver and CD changer, I can only dream about how great things will sound. Buy these, and then come back and add a PF12 later, that's what I did and I think I'll have myself buried with my Def Techs.

I just got my BP6-B's about a week ago and I LOVE them. As said before the imaging quality of them is superb, and for the price you can't go wrong. So I just had to put in my two cents worth.

Bought the BP6Bs about a year ago for a special "buy one get one half price deal." Paid $450 for the pair. The sound is absolutely amazing even at incredibly high volumes. In fact you don't even realize how loud it is until you try to speak to someone sitting next to you (well, you feel it a little bit too). Works well with music AND home theater. Compaed to a $2,000 pair of DefTecs, it probably lacks full bass. Regardless, it is surprisingly good base. Mine is running along with a Klipsch KSW200- 12' powered subwoofer, so base really isn't an issue anyway. If you plan on using a sub, there really isn't that much of a need to get anything more than this. The clarity in the mids highs and lows is awesome. The 1000B center channel and BP2X surrounds are also a great match for surround sound. In short, these speakers are a steal with 8 high quality drivers.

I recently took a friend out shopping for a home theater system. I didn't really know much about Definitive, but as soon as she heard these she knew that these were the speakers for her. So we built the rest of the system around them: Denon AVR-1600, Definitive center, and Definitive bipolar surrounds.
The bipolar effect is amazing in her apartment. I was totally feaking out at the sound difference between her system and mine when we watched 'The Fifth Element'. I'm currently using a Denon AVR 2700 with Infinity Speakers (RS5,RS2,&CC-3). I never thought the Infinitys went very well with my Denon, but now I'm certain. I've put an ad in the paper for the Infinitys and hope to sell them soon so that I can upgrade to these great speakers.

Strength:

Appearance is esthetically pleasing. Crisp Highs, decent bass for 5.25" drivers.

Weakness:

Lack of true midrange.

DOW had a sale on Klipsch KSF8.5 for $300 a pair. I came in and noticed a pair of BP6B's with a tag marked also $300 a pair (according to the salesman, DOW picked up the Mirage line so they dropped DefTechs.) I auditioned both and found the Klipsch to be a bit hollow sounding while the DefTechs were fuller (after all, they're dipoles), though somewhat weak in midrange reproduction. I chose the DefTechs. Not the best sounding speakers I've owned but pretty darn good for the price.

Strength:

Slim size. Great sound. Binding post at the bottom for esay hiding cable.

Weakness:

The top is not piano gross. cannot put too close to the wall. The grill cloth is not detachable.

I use the BP6Bs for surround. No doubt the sound is much greater than the BP2X or BPX for the similar price. No need to worry about wall mounting or buying speaker stands. Excellent reproduction of surround sound.
