Strength:
Great highs, midrange and upper bass. Smooth and accurate. Music seems to just float in the air. My DR7's are 8 years old and still going strong.
Weakness:
Grill cloth began tearing (but only after 6 years of owning these, so I'm not sure if that is really a weakness) I have owned a pair of DR7 bookshelfs for 8 years. About two years ago, the grill cloth on the corners began to tear. I recently e-mailed Definitive intending to buy new grills or grill cloth. They offered to send me new grill cloth for free! What customer service! By the way, the DR7's still sound great after 8 years. They are truly classic speakers and it's too bad that Definitive does not make them anymore. When I first hooked them up to my NAD 7100 receiver, I was astounded by the way the music just seemed to float in the air and last forever, especially the high notes such as the cymbals crashing. I also remember hearing for the first time, after having JBL 4312B's for ten years, a speaker that can produce every range of the sound spectrum (except for the very lowest bass) smoothly and accurately. I heard notes and lyrics in my CDs that I had not heard before. I would close my eyes and imagine the band playing right in front of me. It was (and still is) sweet! I am auditioning M&Ks for my home theater now, but even if I end up purchasing those, I will keep the DR7s for elsewhere in my house for as long as they last. They are truly classic speakers. Strength:
Huge, accurate sound for a 2-way speaker. Incredible bass for a 17cm driver.
Weakness:
I can't think of any. I love these speakers! I, too, have the floorstanding models (they're about 4 feet tall), and they put out a HUGE sound for 2-ways. I suprised my friend with these speakers when I put on "The Thong Song" and was shaking the floor at the other end of the house! I don't know how the bookshelf configuration is set up, but the floorstanding model has the tweeter and driver up near the top of the speaker, then a 4 or 5" port at the bottom of the speaker. I'm not sure, but I imagine that helps the bass a bit. That's another great thing about these speakers... they are LOUD! You can just keep cranking the volume on these things... it takes a LOT of volume to distort these things. Similar Products Used: None |
