Strength:

Weakness:
A little weak on the bass I have owned these speakers for about 3-4 years and have always loved them. I recently went speaker shopping and could find nothing under $2000 that I liked more. Similar Products Used: Paradigm 3SEMKII |

Strength:
full bodied sound for mid-size twoway
Weakness:
would be nit picking ive owned all of above, Ithink the dr7 is best sound for dollar ive had, the 2006tls were great but 1200 a pair there not 3 times better, not even 25% better, atoms and titans are outstanding values and paradigm is an excellent speaker for the everyman who appreciats quality and value.I have had many def-tech products and love there stuff,I reciently sold my ACI titan II sub(wow B.T.W.) and was afraid my dr7 towers in front and rear pro 200s would leave me dissapointed in the subs absence, but after ) I decided to write a review because Im totally impressed with there performance. If you find them used just buy them (only at 400 or less), they are smooth and satisfying. my value rating is based on the 400 i paid, but you can probably get them for less but you MUST search Similar Products Used: pro monitor 200, pro monitor 100, BP2006tl, paradigm atom |

Strength:
Precise highs, plenty of bass, all-around great value.
Weakness:
Grills fall off. Great sound for the price. I've been using them for over 5 years, and although I've been meaning to buy a sub for movie soundtracks, I haven't got around to it, and am in no hurry, as these give almost all the punch I need. (And I live in an apartment, and the downstairs neighbors would kill me.) I bought mine at a post-CES convention sale, so I got a deeply discounted price although they were only used by Def Tech for demonstrations for 4 days. I still haven't seen loudspeakers that give this kind of sound for the price. If you can get a pair used, snap them up. I put mine closer to the wall for that extra bass boost, and I've got them hooked up to a Marantz SR-8000 receiver, playing my best CD's through my Pioneer CLD-D702 laserdisc player, as it kills my Sony DVD and CD players for realism and clarity. I own a pair of the now discontinued DR-7 Studio Monitors (they're floor standing versions of the bookshelf). They were/are the steals of the century. I haven't heard anything that can touch them for less than $2000, and they cost me something like $675/pair. The only thing these speakers lack is ultimate bass and perhaps some bass slam. I'm upgrading them to a pair of Dynaudio Contour 1.8s and will be selling them...maybe! |

These are the "biggest" little speakers I've ever owned. The full range of sound , including low thundering bass, just continues to amaze me. I'm running a Parasound 1200(200wpc) through these and that don't have a problem, even at high levels. |

I have owned a pair of DR7s for several years now, and have loved them. I use bass management on my processor to route low frequency information to my two subs. I have found that the DR7 really open up and sound more detailed when they don't have to produce too much bass. An excellent speaker for the price! |

Strength:
Sounds good at all volume levels and produces incredibly accurate sound.
Weakness:
large for bookshelfs Expect huge sound in any application. Movies, Music, and whatever all sounds great. These speakers react so fast it's like they anticipate the signal before it gets to them. |

These have to be the best bookshelf speakers I've ever listened to. They have a very wide, smooth frequency response (25Hz-28kHz), so it's not necessary to use a subwoofer. They're also fairly sensitive (90dB), so a large amp is not necessary. To cap it off, they're built like tanks. Although they're a bit large for "bookshelf" speakers (8.5"x11.5"x22"), they're not excessively so, and I doubt that that many people place bookshelf speakers on shelves anyway. These can occasionally be found for about $200 or less used, and at that price I'd have to give them 5 stars. Retail price would hack the rating down to 4 stars, since there are other excellent speakers (albeit without the wide frequency response) in the $500 range. |
