Strength:
Clear highs, good midrange, excellent value.
Weakness:
Need to adjust subwoofer level on both speakers. I purchase the Protower 400 together with the C2 center and Procinema 100 rears for about $1390. I am powering with the sony DB-930 receiver and pioneer 525 DVD player. After listening to the above speakers, the Protowers were comparable to the Procinema 200's and in the upper and midrange but added a little more bass. I found the highs to be clearer and a larger soundstage when listening to music than either the energy speakers or the Pro100 or Pro80. Bass is not as tight as higher end speakers but I believe for the money it is an exceptional value. Highly recommended and sound better after 60hrs use. Strength:
The bass is outstanding without losing the clarity and richness. These things really shine for home theatre.
Weakness:
Speaker grills. No biwire capability. These speakers have been great from the get go. I did find them a little harsh for the first 40 hours so be a little patient on the break-in period. Similar Products Used: Deftech C2 centre. Amazing as a set with the 400's. |

Weakness:
Grill fastener, ohm Load, High volume music listening is not pleasing to the ear Not very pleased, can't wait for the Klipsch RF-3's to come in I tried the store demo pair at home with my setup. Now those are great sounding speakers. Similar Products Used: Klipsch RF-3, Cerwin Vega VS-120 |

Love the sound. Just came from the show room floor. Decision time. Anybody knows if these are available on the internet for a better price? |

Strength:
Still trying to think of one...
Weakness:
Umm, entire speaker?!?!? I was very disappointed by this speaker all around. I feel as if I wasted $1,000. I would probably have been more satisfied by a set of speakers from Radio Shack for half the price. They only sounded somewhat reasonable on HT and super low volumes. As far as music goes...they are very poor. I would look into some of the other Definitive products. Hopefully DefTech will discontinue this one because it is not of DefTech quality. 2 thumbs down for me. |

Fantastic speakers and I am impressed with the amount of bass these things pump out. I hardly have my sub volume knobs on the towers turned up yet they have a lot of bass. Turn the knobs half way and you will have a ton of bass. I use these as my mains in my home theatre setup which includes a Def Tech CLR2000 for the centre and Def Tech ProMonitor 200s as the surrounds. These work great together and Dolby Digital DVDs sound terrific. I haven't really tested the 400s with a lot of music but of the song or two that I have listened to, the they did a good job. If you're looking for a pair of towers in this price range (got mine for $1250 Cdn) or if you're looking for a home theatre package, I suggest you take a look at these and the above package that I described. If you have a room the size of mine (12'x22') and are looking for some good home theatre sound for your DVDs, you won't be disappointed. |

Just a correction. My ear problems are from the subs. If I turn the sub level just slightly past the min setting, I get the sensation like when in an airtplane. A friend says this is definitely an acoustic problem where my room is causing a frequency that I'm sensitive too. Not sure if this will be with all subs for me or because the 400's woofers face me directly? |

Strength:
All purpose speaker
Weakness:
None yet I started with a Pro Cinema 200 surrond set up. I updated the fronts to the Pro Tower 400 series, what a difference. I still use the Pro sub for AC3 DVD's but use mostly two channel for music. I think the greatest asset of these speakers is when listening to CD's or even tapes. Good all around speaker. Don't pay list, most dealers use a markup of 70% on Definitive products! Similar Products Used: Bose, Infinity |

Strength:
Very Clear highs, and amazing bass, dont underestimate the dual 6.5s they go really really low
Weakness:
Some minor port chuffing, but usually only at insane volumes, might notice it if I had a larger room, flimsy grills but not like that matters I was really stuck when it came to theses of the paradigm legends but i had never had a chance to listen to them side by side as soon as I did definitive was hands down the winner. Both preformed rather well in HT but when it came to music, they had to to shine, and well the paradigms did not. The definitive was much clearer up high than the legends and surprisingly souned to have just as much bass. as for the monitors they had a little better sounding tweeter but the bass was nowhere near as pronounced. As I said dont underestimate the bass on these try them out and you'll be amazed Similar Products Used: paradigm legends, monitor 6.1 |

I've just bought these speakers two weeks ago.I just loved the way they sounded in the show room. Before purchasing these speakers I also auditioned the PSB Stratus Bronze, PSB Century 800i's, Paridigm monitor 70p. The Century 800's are very good speakers for $850 cdn, but I found the bass was very loose compared to the Stratus Bronze. Although the Bronze sounded very good with classical music, the Century's sounded better for dance music because you can hear more of the bass. I must admit, I didn't spend too much time listening to the Paridigm 70p's but they sounded very smooth and natural. In fact,I was going to buy these speakers because they have built-in powered amps (140watt rms)and they can be bi-wired -which I heard sounds better than just using a single wire. I wanted to get a package so that I could get a better deal. The dealer I wanted to get a receiver (yamaha rx-v995) and dvd player (sony dvp-s7700)from didn't carry Paridigms. I told the salesman that I had an interest in getting the Paridigm monitor 70p's and he recommended something that sounded very close: the Pro Tower 400's.I listened to some rock, dance, and classical music and they all were handled very nicely in the showroom, so I bought them. They now sit in my livingroom along with my big screen, but they don't quite sound as good as they did in the showroom. This is probably because of the lack of space I have around the speakers. Anyways, I played some dvds they just rock! The bass is very clean and was still able to rattle everything in the house. Even with two speakers in stereo mode they sound terrific. |
