I traded my B&W 602's in for these badboys about a week ago. It upsets me that it took me so long to do so (7 months). I have been told that Dynaudio is notorious for long break in periods, but that the reward is well worth the wait. That seems to be great news--I am in love with the current sound and greatly look forward to watching the evolution of these speakers. I auditioned the Contour series--definitely better--but decided against because of the 4 ohm load. Would love to have a pair of them though (funny how we are never satisfied!). Happy listening.

Strength:

Awesome dynamic range, incredibly transparent and detailed, superlative bass, expansive stereo imaging

Weakness:

None

The AVI NuNeutron has an overly smoothed midband, AND IT HAS NO BASS AT ALL. Rip-off!

The PMC has a phoney BIG sound, plus a neutered tonal balance that makes everything sound like nice hi-fi. Faker!

But the superb Audience 50s just let you HEAR THE MUSIC. Just read my strengths comments above. These are basically the alpha and the omega of what these babies are about. What else would you want your speakers to do??

BRILLIANT, BRILLIANT, BRILLIANT

(P.S. the 50s are now superceded by the Audience 52s, which are meant to just incorporate a baffle change).

I bought these speakers 3 weeks ago. They really need long break-in time (100hr for me) to sound smooth. At first the sound was a little bright with my Krell KAV-300. But after the break-in period the highs r more smooth n more enjoyable. Not only the highs, also the bass became deeper. I also audition some other speakers like, B&W Nautilus 805, Hales revelation 1, Dynaudio contour 1.3mkII, etc... they all have there pros n cons, but for the price i chose Audience50. For me after listening to Audience 50, it's hard to satisfy with other speakers.

I have to agree with the opinions stated below. I just wanted to comment on their looks. I think they look wonderful, with nice proportions and a first rate finish (darkish rosewood for mine).

It should be mentioned that they need a good amount of power. I would not pick them for SET amps, due to low sensibility and impedance. Mine are mated to a quad 405, fed by the Sony XA20ES.

What I like best is the clarity of details. Excellent bass, tight and well integrated. Airy highs.

Strength:

Clarity of voice, neutrality, wide dispersion

Weakness:

limited bass as expected but has plenty for most music and rooms

just demoed the 1.3 with the audience 50 speakers. i used lower end components - $700 integrated amp - $500 cd player to emulate my home set up as closely as possible.
under these conditions, the audience 50s kept up very well with the 1.3s. i would say they matched %95 of the 1.3s' performance.
this is not to slam the 1.3s in any regard but to inform those who have a similar ampcd set up and are not planning on spending $3,500 for a pre, amp and cd, that they should demo the 50s as well.
the sales guy had made the same comparison before - agreed with my assessment and let me know what $ system was required to make the 1.3s truly rise above the 50s.
i'm not willingable to spend that much and if you are also not, try the 50s - they're a great speaker too.

Strength:

Bass. The loudest bass I have ever heard from a stand mount.

Weakness:

Harder to drive them than average.

Concerning the price, this is indeed a superb speaker. The tweeter unit is to die for, bettering even speakers that cost 3 times more. The sweetess, the refinement I here from viloin instruments is one of the reasons I recommend Dyunaudio speakers to everyone who asks which speakers to buy. And the bass...hard to manage them sometimes, but with a proper stand it will give you the best and if not loudest in this price range. The midband is not all that superb compared to the exellent treble and bass, but still very listenable. If you have a medium sized room and can't afford expensive floorstanders, the Dynaudio 50 will be the next best thing.
