Howell Electronics in El Paso has fantastic customer service, Elden Howell ( the owner) went out of his way to find the best bang for the buck in regards to this amp and speaker setup that I have. Will recommend Howell Electrronics anytime. Hamtramck Towing Professionals Weakness:

Unfortunately, a college student who works weekends to go to school can rarely affort the $600.00 asking price (Around $1958.00 in todays dollars) and so made due with other more affordable equipment. I finally found a used 2270 I could afford in 1992. Tallahassee Mobile Mechanic Weakness:

I bought this pair of Andra I from a good audiophile friend as an accommodation and curiosity after reading the reviews of how decent these speakes were. Although I had some initial strange feelings about the bass response at his place I thought it had to do with space and placement.

Strength:
Just plain musical, small size makes it easy to place, gorgeous!
Weakness:
Price To be quite blunt, I feel that the Andra's are one of the best available. I also feel that they might even reach that elusive "classic" status. I have heard and spent some time auditioning many of the Andra's competitors, Wilson Watt/Puppy, Revel Salon, Thiel CS6 & 7.2, Dunlavy SC IVa, etc. . . None of these seem to offer a view into the musical event with quite the same realism and musicality that the Andra's offer. The Andra's pull this all off with such ease that it seems like they are just yawning through the works that they are reproducing. I don't mean that they are boring by any stretch, just that they are never tasked by any musical event they are asked to reproduce. NO BASS!!! Could not wait to get rid of them. Bought them as Demo's out of a large stereo store in Calf. for $7500.he told me they were 6 months old but I don't think they were working right from the dat I got them. They were supposed to be the newer model with 2 12 in. woofers but I don't think they were. Had 4 weeks and 2 of the mid range blew out at moderate listening levels. (did not clip amp as I played my Thiel Cs 7s at much louder volume)Mid range speakers are really little woofers and they seem to do all the work. Had to buy Genesis 900 sub to get any bass at all. I knew I was in trouble the day I got them as a buddy and I a/b them with me Thiels and the Thiels smoked them. I was lucky to sell them for $6500 as they went out of business. I bought the little Thiel MCS 1's and I am running them w/ the Genesis 900 and they sound better than the Andra.I would not even give them a "1" rating but thats as low as it goes! Strength:
The speakers provide deep, detailed sound. Well balanced, and amazing at higher levels. Filled a 20'x32' room with no problems. Amazing highs with just the right amount of bass. Their size is also compact, making it easy to fit in virtually any room.
Weakness:
Only two, 15,000 a pair and over 200 lbs. each! The speakers are at that pure class A level. There quite simply is none better. There may be something different, but not better, so careful auditioning is a must. The highs and mid-range simply need to be heard to be believed. Great bass. To some, their compact size relative to the other speakers in their class makes them attractive to those with limited room. Similar Products Used: Thiel 7.2's and B&W Nautilus 801. |

Strength:
Piano, Organ and material with strong Dynamic Presence
Weakness:
Few, but spatial definition and localization (soundstage) is not as spectacular as the best Dipoles; e.g., Magneplanar 20s A superb speaker with excellent midrange, good bass, acurate timbral reproduction and wide dymanics. Suitable for modern recordings with wide dynamic range. Requires 300 watts per channel or greater for best results. Similar Products Used: Magneplanar MG 20; Quad ESL63 |
