Strength:

I bought these speakers about 15 years ago when they first came out after reading rave reviews. I wasn’t disappointed at all. Putting this all into context, I’m a Dj of 20yrs + and a producer for 12yrs. I’m very very fussy about sound. The highs shouldn’t feel extended an artificial. The bass should have clarity and not feel boosted and distorted. The mid range (in my opinion the difficult range) should be clear and precise. I still use these speakers for listening to various music types and they are wonderful. I’ve often thought about upgrading but honestly do not feel the need. I own a few sets of monitors for studio use and I have compared them constantly. I use Dynaudio in the lab of which are outstanding, but they do cost a pretty penny! If your looking for floorstanders that can pack a punch and won’t feel tired and lightweight. These are a good buy, plus I’ve seen you can pick them up for peanuts at the moment.

Weakness:

My one and only comment on a possible downside is if you are looking for precise referencing, dj-ing or studio use, these are not the right speakers for you. You need Dynaudio, Genelec, Focal or Adam. For recreational listening, parties and just chillin with some choons, loud or relaxed these will do the job. If you add a sub they will be all the better as the sub will take care of the bottom end and the floorstanders will take care of the rest. 👍

Casual Listener

So I bought the speakers after deep consideration. I got it from polish auction site for ca 200$ so I think it was cheap. Until last week I was very pleased with the sound although they lacked bass especially in movies (no problem, I bought a decent sub and it's more than ok now). Now to the one really big con. Last week I bought a cd of polish singer Gaba Kulka who has very specific voice frequency. And what happened is that the tweeters started to "fart" at about 3,5 khz. It almost makes it impossible to listen (yes - it's that bad). I don't know if it's problem with my pair only (the speakers are 7 years old) or is it some problem with the electronics.

Bass, Vocals, Tweeters, they even look good!

Bascially These are the complete speaker for anylistener of any kind. I play mine through a Technics SU-A600 mk2 (amp) and a technics SL-Pg4 cd player. I listen mostly to rock alternitive so bass is a must have factor. well if it is bass you are looking for you have found it, i totally recommend bi - wireing them not that i have tried them any other way, but then again why would you? I did feel the need to adjust the eq on my amp to get the best out of the speakers but then again this is standard practise. the tweeters are also great sounding and along with the bass make get acoustic song listening with vocals sounding very strong. for 120 quid (look around you'll get em for 100) it's a great deal!

Strength:

You most likely can't do better at this price point. Great Bass for something of this size. Very nice build quality. Great sound across the entire response range.

Weakness:

none at this price point

Two years ago I bought a pair of Liberty 3+ bokshelf speakers and have been using them with a DVD player and separate amp. I have been very impressed with the sound for the price of the speakers. While on holiday in the UK this year I wanted to get the floorstanding version Liberty 5+ and just couldn't resist the 99 / pair price. I have been using these on my main stereo system with a Nakamichi RE-10 stereo reciever with fantastic and impressive results. I am not using the supplied spikes and have not put sand in the cabinets. I like plenty of bass and I am impressed with the bass available from the comparitively small size of the bass driver as ordinairly I don't care for anything less than a 10 inch bass driver.Midrange & vocals are excellent as well as the high end. Imaging is good and the overall build quality is very good. The 5+ is bi-wireable although I am not using them in that capacity. I have now stacked the 3+ bookshelf versions on top of the 5+ floorstanders and it makes a perfect match for even greater bass. It cost me an extra 50 to get these speakers back to the USA on the airline but it was still a bargain. As far as I know, Eltax is not marketed in the USA.

Strength:

Power. I live in a ground floor flat, and apparently i've made light bulbs rattle on the 3rd story at only HALF VOLUME! Incredibly deep and rich bass, and a warm, rounded sound. Deals with vocals very well, so i imagine would be excellant as part of a home cinema/DVD system. For the money, these are unbelieveable. 100 pounds was a bargin for this kind of quality. Put it like this, the first time i played Muse's 'Plug In Baby' through this set up, i almost cried at the superb low and mid end bass. I gave these 5 stars for 2 simple reasons: they're a giant killing bargin, and far better than i imagined.

Weakness:

Can be slightly too 'bassy' at times. Music with a strong bass line, like hard rock, drum and bass etc can come across as a bit sluggish as the speakers get bogged down in bass. However, i'm sure this is mostly due to the fact that my soundcard (my entire music collection is digital mp3/wma) is new and not correctly set up.

I bought these speakers only after seeing them in a half price sale, and with cash burning a hole in my pocket, i linked them to a Cambridge A1V2.0 amp, and my PC with only Intel Celeron on-board sound card. Since then, only 4 months ago, i've been so impressed, and bitten by the Hi Fi bug so bad, that i now use my Liberty 5's with a Technics CD player and tuner, and i've upgraded to a Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum soundcard to get the most from them. I'm still hoping to connect them to a DVD/home cinema system.

Strength:

I think these are really great looking speakers(beech. Great sounding and very very good value for the money.

Weakness:

Can't think of any.

I think these are fab speakers for the money, i decided to get myself some new components and thought these looked like a very good choice when i read the review in What hifi. I have teamed these up with the Liberty 1+ and the liberty centre speaker. These are driven by the Denon AVR1801 and i use the Pioneer PDRW839 as my cd source and the old Phillips 730 DVD player. I played the Meteor scene from Armagedon to my mates and they where astounded at how good they sounded!! As for music i think they sound great with all kinds of music, great bass extention and very open sounding. Overall i am very very pleased with these speakers ans cannot beleive what £99.00 can get you!!!.TRY THEM OUT.

I submitted an earlier review of these speakers & just over a year on I am still delighted with them. I am at present "re-discovering" my old vinyl after a 3 year absence, the hankering got too much. The 5 plus's are allowing me to enjoy albums I often dismissed. On another reviewers advice I have put in 4 extra kgs of sand taking it to 5kg which has taken them to another level.

BALANCED BASS, TREBLE AND MIDRANGE RESPONSE.

Weakness:

NONE.

GREAT SPEAKERS FOR THE MONEY. EXCELLENT FOR ACOUSTIC INSTRUMENTS AND WOODWIND,YOU CAN HEAR THE STRINGS BEING PLUCKED AND THE BREATH. EVERYONE WHO'S HEARD THEM HAS LOVED THEM. EXCELLENT FOR FOLK MUSIC AND CLASSICAL MUSIC (BACH'S HARPSICHORD CONCERTOS). THEY'RE ABLE TO TAKE A LOT OF VOLUME WITHOUT DECREASING THEIR BASS, TREBLE OR MIDRANGE RESPONSE. I WOULD SUGGEST THESE SPEAKERS TO ANYONE WHO HASN'T A LARGE AMOUNT OF CASH TO SPEND. GREAT FIRST TIME BUY. IF YOU BUY THEM AS YOUR FIRST SPEAKERS I DOUBT IF YOU WILL REPLACE THEM.
