What a terrible product. For the amount of money you spend on these things, you would expect a lot from them, and I was too. First off, the treble that these things produce is just horrible! It is so loud and ear-splitting, harsh, and over exerted. This is terrible when you want to turn up the volume to hear the speakers capability, and you can't even stand to listen to it. Secondly, the bass was very tight, but had absolutely no extension. There were sounds that I couldn't even hear on these that were prevalent in other speakers. The midrange was average at best, and the speakers didn't have nearly enough reflex, causing distortion and pop when the drivers moved too much they slammed back into place making a bad noise. Also, you need one hell of a powerful amplifier to get any decent sound out of these things, and even with a very neutral, soft-coloured amp, the sound is way too bright, and over exerted. Plus, when an extreme load of certain frequencies was put on the speakers, the cases made a buzzing noises, and the terminals at the back (no matter how tight I tightened them) were rattling. Also, high gloss finish is ugly, and very tacky. These speakers are a terrible product for the price you pay, just terrible. I recommend going to something like Totem or Paradigm which have unbelievable sound quality. DO NOT BUY THESE SPEAKERS!!!

Strength:

Great imaging. Pure and clean sound. Handle the power you throw at them!

Weakness:

Nothing worth mentioning, but I wish they were video shielded.

I waited a good while before I ever wrote a reveiw on these speakers for a few reasons! First off, wanted to make sure they are completly broken in. Second, I wanted to try them with a few different receivers like the Denon 3801, Pioneer Elite VSX-36TX and and old JVC to compare sounds.

Now the question in mind is... "Why Energy? Why did you have to discontiue these speakers?"

Well, rumor has it that the tools used to make these speakers broke and it would have costed a half a million to replace it... So with the new Veritas line, Energy justified the discontinuation of the Connoisseur Series. I strongly advise checking out the Veritas 2.2s and 2.3s if you are looking for great sound at a reasonable price, although some might call it expensive... But what the hey, we only live once!

Back to the C-6s. I'm not sure where to begin... I have put my speakers through hell to see what the can do. I will advise to make sure you run a sub with them! I tried runing them for a week on my Denon 3801 with out a sub to see what they could do. The C-6s do output a lot off bass, however they will not handle everything you throw at them! But they can take a lot of abuse.

Ok, so here is what you are looking to find out. The Connoissues 6 speakers are nearly perfect. They just have such a great sound to them, and have such a great soundstage. The imaging is clear and somewhat bright, but I'm also running through the Denon which is know for it's brightness! They are just so clear and beautiful. Not to mention how pretty they look too :)

I have definitly been searching for the perfect speakers and I found them with the C-6s. As far as movies go, these speakers are flawless. They are just so clean and right in your face. I have them mached with the Energy AC-300 center and Encore 2s for surrounds. At no matter what level I'm running at, I have never heard any distortion through these speaekers, at least not on the Denon or Pioneer Elite receivers. Of course the JVC was a differnt story, but I don't like getting into brand bashing and that's were this review would go if I started on the JVC receiver with the C6s!

Music is where the Connoissuer line gets tricky. I'm very satisfied with the tone, the clarity, and the imaging these speakers have for music. But, I had to torture myself! I ran out and listened to the Energy Veritas 2.2s and compared them to the C6s... (and the results are in: Movies are equal. Music, the Veritas kills the Connoissuer line). I know that wasn't a fair thing to do to myself, but I still love my C6s more than ever! They just sound too good to give up, and at the price I paid I'm not giving into the upgrade bug just yet. I got my C6s for around $750 almost a year ago, and that was a great deal at the time. The Veritas 2.2s are nearly $1500. I figured I'd give the C6s a run for the money before I consider getting rid of them.

Back to the music portion of this review... I listen to a lot of rock and heavy metal! I know, I know... High Fidelity speakers pushing the rock music! The C-6s are definitly not geared to handle the music I throw at them most of the time. However I do listen to some classical, Orchestral and Country, so the imaging on those musical styles are just phenominal! But, as to my surprize, the C-6s take the abuse just fine for rock and metal. They handle the distortion as if it was nothing. They can get real mean and nasty when you want them too!

To sum things up in a nut shell. I'm impressed with these speakers. I wouln't trade them for many other brands out there on the market. The Engegy Connoissuer 6s are just a well diverse speaker that has a perfect sound to them. They handle movies without even breaking a sweat, and can be pushed real hard on music. They are just such a clean and crisp sounding speaker and live up to the Energy name and standards. If you come across a pair of these, I reccomend picking them up! Well worth the price, and are a great addition to any home theater. And yes, its too bad these aren't video shielded!

The fine, articulate bass register of these speakers are dredfully compromised by the much too brilliant, almost piercing treble notes. Even in the careful set up I heard them in, listening for long periods was very tiring.

Strength:

Very musical... Good bass response

Weakness:

No video shielding

I absolutely enjoy watching movies and listening to music with these speakers. Soundstage is excellent!! This speaker is very neutral in sound and needs a good receiver to drive them. The piano black finish is gorgeous.

This is one of the best speakers in its price range (and beyond!). Retail $1200 per pair, you can get them from an online/mail order for about $900. I have listened to many speakers costing $1500 and more, and I fell in love with these! After a bit of a break-in period (about 2 weeks of 2 hours listening a day) they became very mellow and transparent, yet still produced every nuance of music and movie soundtrack that I've played. I have started listening to older CDs and watching older DVDs because you HEAR things you hadn't heard before with this speaker!

Like many others I searched the spectrum before finally settling on the C-6's. I was most taken with B&W sound, but not with there price/performance. The C-6's however, are phenominal value. Along with the C-6's I purchased the AC-300 and the RVSS's. To the person who gave them a low rating, I question the upstream electronics that you had driving them.

After an extensive amount of research, countless hours of comparitive listening, shopping the net, and the all important "selling the benefits of this purchase to the wife", I purchased my loudspeakers from Energy. The C-6 speakers offer an incredibly accurate reproduction of the source, however, you'll need a decent set of gear to take advantage of it: amplifier (80+ "real" watts RMS minimum but it does have pre-outs), good input sources (DVD/CD), cabling, etc. to take advantage of it. What do you get? Exceptional performance including smooth reproduction of the detail, superior imaging, very good upper end bass performance - a jaw dropper for the money. All in all a great speaker for both music and HT. I also invested in the Energy RVSS bipolar/dipolar surrounds, AC300 Center (AWESOME!) and an ES-10 Subwoofer. The finish (piano gloss black) and components used by Energy are FIRST CLASS. It makes some of the "audiophiles" comments here about fit and finish a laugh! I looked at and listened to a lot "world class" stuff I hear all these guys shoot their mouths off about. Most of it is built like a Yugo, WAY OVERPRICED, and it sounds like a Yugo too. I had a budget going into this project, and the Energy stuff saved me a bundle!!! If you are looking for a tower, or want to piss off your neighbor who spent the same amount on a Bose system, then this is THE kilobuck speaker that you should add to your shopping list! Highly recommended and face-off winner in both Home Theatre AND Stereophile Buyers Guide. The Definitive Technology BP-8 is the only other thing that offers this level of performance at the price. Marc at the AudioShop, Ottawa, Canada (613)233-2215 - Best Buy & Super Service! Thanks Marc - I love my stereo again! 4 stars only because there is something better out there; its just gonna cost you at least three times more money.
Other gear - Denon AVR-3200 Receiver, B & K Power Amp; Toshiba DVD/CD, Transparent Cabling/Interconnects.
