I auditioned speakers for several months and was about to buy the Paradigm Monitor 9 speakers. (By the way, those speakers are 5 stars easy.) My problem with them was the size of the rear speakers. I was worried about having to mount 25 pound speakers on my walls. I was still going to buy them anyway - until I found out the deals that could be made on the Energy line. I compared the Energy C-6s very carefully against the Paradigm's and made my conclusion that the speakers were nearly identical musically, but the Energy's seemed to be a bit better for home theater (and the Energy surrounds are only 15 pounds - a bit more manageable. I also listened to the Definitive Technology Pro Tower 400. I thought the Def Tech's sounded great, but I still thought I'd need to buy a separate sub for those (even though they have a built in sub).

After I decided on the Energy's, I then compared the C-6's against the C-8's. The C-8's have a bit deeper bass - but with my Onkyo 656, the C-6's have more than enough bass for my 17' x 26' room, although for home theater, I'll eventually buy a sub.

What really sold me on the C-6's though was the price. I found a local dealer who had these in the wood veneer finish (I verified with Energy that these speakers are identical with the Glossy models - just the cabinets are different) for $450. The dealer also had a demo RVS Center speaker for $165. For just over $650 with tax, I got 3 great speakers and I think I can learn to live without the High Gloss. I'm sure there are better speakers out there, and if I ever become an Audiophile, I'll probably want them. But for my first real set of speakers for both music & home theater, I think I did pretty good.

Overall sound rating is probably 4-5 but for the price a definite 5.

I have just purchased the Energy C6's and I'm not sure I made a wise choice. I'm powering them with a 130 watt Rotel amp and at half volume the low frequency range is quite excellent but what is with the high frequencies? They are unbearable. I didn't hear this till I brought them home and cranked it. I am going to keep them for a week or two maybe they need some breaking in. Point is make sure the shop you buy from has a return or exchange policy

What a wonderful set of speakers! Very musical, dynamic and involving... They are very open sounding, I'm driving them with an Adcom 5800 -- yet I've tried a krell on them & they hang tough & sound all the better!

Strength:

Excellent audio reproduction

Weakness:

Power hungry [though not really a weakness]

I bought these speakers in December of '97 to replace a pair of Polk Audio towers. When I listened to them at the store, they were being pushed by a Yamaha reciever, which wasnt doing them justice. I asked the employee to hook them up to an NAD integrated amp that they had and WOW....made a huge difference. I have an NAD 2700 that I push these speakers with and they are bi-wired with Audioquest Type 6 speaker cable. They sound awesome. I use them for Audio and for Movies and absolutely love them.

Strength:

wicked fast response, great vocals, finish

Weakness:

none now (harsh at first)

I have had these speakers for 1 1/2 years now. As many people have stated they need a very long break in period. They were very harsh at first but after time passed they settled in very nicely.I listen to vocals a lot and these are crystal clear. No muddy tones, no exagerated highs, very transparent. They image well and seem to dissapear into the room. They are very sensitive to material. A bad CD will sound really bad, a good one sounds great. What goes in, comes out. I am very happy with these speakers.
