One only needs to hear the Take 5 hometheater package to know the level of quality energy puts into its speakers. The C8,6,4,and 2 are exceptional, indeed. They say seeing is beliving. In this case, see and hearing is beliving. The energy C series are truly engineering masterpieces.Oh yeah, and they look damn good too.

If you want these speakers, the only place you should buy them is A&B Sound and of course you should talk with Len Gerling! The service I got from him was EXCELLENT! I also got a good deal, $800 (US) shipped to my door! You can reach him at 604-859-4200 Thanks Len, thanks Bruce Abar!

In the result of the amount of responces I received from people emailing me on questions and pricing for Energy Speakers, I must put this in again for all the people I never got too, or missed. If anyone needs canadian pricing or questions on energy speakers, please do email me, I will connect you to the canadian shipper(A&B sound)after you have decided on your purchase or to a sales rep for questions I can't answer. The Con-series is not being replaced by the Exl series, the Con-series is a much better quility than the exl, but the pricing of the Con series has dropped with the intro of the exl series.

I bought a pair of the C8's from a guy who got them from a scratch and dent deal.WOW, thats all I have to say Energy has done a very good job in all of it's speakes even the C6's (I also have a pair). For the price there is not a better speaker.

Strength:

balanced, good imaging, great detailing, clear voices

Weakness:

posts are soft and can be damaged during tightning, high center of gravity - watch out for toddlers and earthquakes

I have been listening to my C-8s for over a year now and am still impressed by how wonderful they sound. Female vocals are incredible. Try Natalie Cole's Unforgetable or Don't Cry for Me Argentina from Evita. I listen to just about everything and these speakers can handle it, from quiet delicate passages to earthshattering explosions. A subwoofer is a nice addition for organs, movies and the like.

This is a very good speaker that has respectable bass with clear midrange and highs. I listened to everything I could find in the stores in its price range and nothing was as musical and detailed. In A-B comparisons, the other speakers lacked detail (parts of the music were missing)...the C-8 shone in reproducing the subtle nuances of the source material. The C-8 was the most life-like in its price range as well, it did not over emphasize any aspect of the sonic spectrum.

Regarding some of the earlier reviews: I too like Energy's dipole speakers but placement is a problem in many homes, and they cost more. For a lot more money, Energy offers speakers that are clearly better but that's not a fair comparison. You can find speakers for $20K and one would hope that you get something for the extra 18 - 20 grand. Some factories are offering audiophile grade speakers over the web; this is the only way I believe you would beat these speakers at this price point but you don't get to hear or see them before they show up on your door step. The return shipping can be $200 or more which is an expensive way to do listening tests.

I do not understand some of the previous reviews and it makes me wonder if there is not some other motive. To say that the C-8's bass is its only strength and that its bass is bloated in the same review, well perhaps you too can see why I'm confused by the low scores. I have listened to the C-8s at low volumes (kids asleep) and higher (gotta listen 2 rooms down) and have never heard booming or shrillness, maybe a new amp is in order. (I will admit that they sound a little fuller at listening volumes than at background volumes but cranked up they are AWE INSPIRING.) By the way, they are very efficient so its not an issue of amp power.

And yea, I wonder if Bruce gets a commission on the speakers but I can say that everything he has said matches up with what I have seen and heard. That is more than I can say for his name calling critics.

FYI;
Yamaha stereo amp, CR1020, 75WPC
Sharp DV-600U DVD player
Technic turntable
2xC-8
2xC-4 (future surround speakers)
equalizer and a massive passive subwoofer used on occasion
