I have alot of emails to ask me if the Encore 6 is musical, Yes, they sure are,. The take-5, is more for Hometheater use, and cannot perform music like the Encore 6, Like I said, 10 steps above the take-5. Go to your dealer and listen to them, or email me for a Canadain suppler, I will put you in contact with him.

Strength:

Great sound from movies AND Music
Good looking package.

I replaced an Energy eXL-15 system with the XLs10 suband I like this Encore package much more. I've heard many speaker systems that sounded great on movies, but lacked in the music area - The Encores excel in both.
I bought this system without an audition. I was not happy with the highs (or lack of) that my e:Xl-15's produced, and my wife was not happy with the size of the 15's. Now, we are both thrilled with our system. The Encore provides the sound I was looking for and the looks my wife wanted.
Here are a few of my impressions of the Encores based on various music or movie tracks:
BASS: The 8" sub performs very well for example on Telarc's "Time Warp" CD, there is a very good recording of the theme to the movie "2001, A Space Odysee". The kettle drums on this piece are reproduced very accurrately by the encores and their 8" sub. The bass is tight, strong, and clean. Another good bass track, Sarah McLachlan's " Angel" will vibrate your room and your house with deep bass.
TREBLE: The Encore's wide dispersion tweeters certainly do their job. On various classical selections, even the subtle highs are heard realistically. The Eagles's "Hell Freezes Over" DTS DVD gives a good demonstration of the Encore's musical ability. On this DVD, the guitar strings sing, the drums pound, and the audience is reproduced like you are there.
Watch "007 - Tomorrow Never Dies" for a good demonstration of how the Encore's sound for movies with lots of sound.
As you can tell, I am impressed with these speakers. It will be a long time before I'll second guess this purchase. By the Way, I purchased them from www.audioshop.on.ca for $1150 USand got them in 2 days.

Strength:

Size: they are easy to move to check for the right spot. Amazing sound for the size. The best tweeter for the price.

Weakness:

Not easy to find the best way to set up the sub. Nothing in the main below 110-120 hertz

As you can read in many review it's not easy to find the best way to set the sub with the speakers. But after trying every way to get it I finaly found the ultimate way. First you have to know why it's different for these speakers than others. Most of amps are set to deliver up to 70-80H to the sub-out RCA outpout. So you play everything up to 80H in the sub and the main play from 120H and up. There's a hole in frequency between 80 and 120H that makes bass thin (or boomy if you turn up the volume). When you hook-up with the high level input (sub in the main) you can reach 100H in the sub (the crossover max of the sub) and then you get a lot better bass and more dynamic sound. Now I use an external crossover Energy EAC to manage the low frequency. The crossover can up to 150H in the sub (I set mine at 120H) and the main still play 120H and up. This way I get all frequency present in the music. And what an improvement it is. The bass is real, like a live show without the boomy effect. You can pump up the power and it's still perfect and well balance. Also the crossover of amps and sub are not good enuf to realy deliver the frequency you set. You have "junk noise" in it (you can check this running your sub without other speaker) and you can hear even voice in it. With an external crossover you get only what you want: Pur solid bass. You can also set the phase of the sub to make sure it works with the main (and not against them). Now I have plenty of low frequency that makes music and movie more alive and natural. It can be compare to high end speaker with all the details and the soundstage you expect. The external crossover put your speakers at another level so you can enjoy listening both music and movie.

For fifteen hundred dollars absolutely incredible. The true test of the satellites with the sub off sounded great. What full range from such a small speaker.

Strength:

Very small package. Not a big footprint

Weakness:

Price only

I have recently purchased the encore series and I find them to do a really nice job of reproducing sound. I listened to the XL-15's which produced a warmer sound but the small satellite speakers sounded tighter and more crisp. The sub is alos something worth noting. Although it is enclosed in a rather large box it is only 8". DOn't let the size fool you. This sub sounds better than some 10" subs out there. Plus the sound is a clean, not muddled bass, which complements the satellite.

I am not finished setting up the 5.1 system b/c of my daugheter (which the sub was nicely equipped with a rigid protective grill on the outside of the speaker) who likes to jump off the sub to the floor.

I bought the system b/c of the small footprint but am happy to listen to a system that delivers such big sound (with true tonal clarity). I am a little disappointed with the price tag but this package definitly lives up to the Energy epectations. (if only they had put the AC-300 center in the package--now that would have been the way to go!)

Strength:

The little 8inch sub really cranks out the bass, enough to make my "stereo crazied" friends think it was at least a 12inch.

Weakness:

Haven't found any

This system is really clear, smooth and when you want to, you can get it pumping! I'm very surprised what that little 8inch sub can do. I would recommed these speakers to anyone looking for great performance.

Strength:

awesome sound, small size, great to look at, excellent workmanship, front panel controls on sub

Weakness:

pricey, unless you do your shopping

I first listened to Energy's Take Five system and found it lacking. I had my eye on the Energy e-XL series, but the mains and rears were just too damn big for what I was looking for. Then the Encore Six system arrived on the scene. After I ear-tested the setup at my local Good Guys store, I knew it was the right system for me. It had everything I was looking for: good looks, small size, great sound, and the respected Energy name.

After checking the rave reviews on this site, I did my price shopping then e-mailed babar@uniserve.com. He hooked me up with his guy in Canada, who got me the best deal I could find either thru mail order or at The Good Guys here in LA, and all without any haggling! Took four business days for them to get to my office via UPS. Of course I had to pop the box and show them around the office. The look and feel elicited "oos" and "awes" all around. No doubt these were really well-made puppies. But how would they sound?

Well, hook up to my Yamaha RXV-995 was a bit of a chore, but this was my first foray into a satellite and sub-woofer system. After spending two days wiring and rewiring, positioning and tweaking, I managed to get music sounding good... but, unfortunately, not great. Seems there was a hole where the midbass should be. I finally gave up and e-mailed Energy for guidance. Not five minutes later my phone rings. It's Joe Fraizer from Energy ready to answer all my questions. Now that's service!

Joe was very cool. He explained what I didn't understand and suggested what kind of speaker wire to use. After replacing my Monster XP wire (16 gauge) with original (12 gauge) Monster cable, and hooking up the sub to the RCA X-over input -- wha-lah! The sound came bursting to life.

My Encores replaced a pair of 9-year-old 3-way Infinities that were about 20 inches high. To look at these tiny black and silver wonders pumping out all that massive, incredibly nuanced sound was just mind boggling. I had to close my eyes because they weren't jibing with what my ears were hearing! The soundfield was expansive, the bass rich and tight. Yes, they are a bit bright (and so is my Yamaha amp) but a little tweak of my equalizer and that was brought under control. I first listened to a selection of songs (on MiniDisc) by Seal. It was like hearing them for the first time. "Crazy" and "Killer" from the first album JAMMED. And "Being Human" from his most recent release had the most amazingly wide soundfield; like I had an entire WALL of speakers. Then I sampled the Pet Shop Boys. I was amazed at the aural warmth the Encores brought to the usually chilly sounding electronic tunes. Then I broke out the old stuff: Boston, Foreigner, Thin Lizzy, Yes, ELP. To get that big-bottom rock sound out of these 20+year-old recordings I had to turn up the sub just a notch, BUT DID THEY ROCK! Yikes! The house was shaking! Later in the night I mellowed out to Bryan Ferry and Sade: both, but especially Sade, were a revelation. The percussion instruments felt like they were in the room with me, and Sade's voice just floated above the music: it was awesome to listen to 15-year old music and have it sound so fresh.

Then I cranked up my Toshiba DVD player and played sequences from Talking Head's "Stop Making Sense", "Starship Troopers", and "The Matrix". I'm not as demanding in the home theater dept. as I am in the music dept., but to my ear the sound was awesome. The center channel had a nice warmth to it so dialogue sounded very real and natural. The sub (amazingly powerful for an 8-incher) pumped out wall-shaking bass on the FX explosions and clean, thumping bass on the Talking Heads concert DVD. Very nice.

But I expected the movies to sound good. It was how great music on CD and MD sounded that sufficiently blew my mind. Although at first I had my doubts, after implementing Joe Fraizer's recommendations I am now a true believer in these speakers. If you have a powerful amp pushing clean sound, and you want an attractive and great sounding satellite system for movies AND music, this is the way to go. Encore, you rock my world!

Strength:

size, sound

Weakness:

a pain mounting on a wall, exposes poor signals from my vcr

I bought these from Marc in oh canada, after doing a lot of research. So far I really like these speakers. I replaces my 9 year Infinity SM122, moved them upstairs(talk about a heavy speaker). I must say that music does sound better on the Infinitys..mind you that I am no audiophile, just a fan. But the music does sound good on the Encores, and the Dolbly Digital is amazing...100 times better then pro-logic. But most of my videos are pro logic, running through my sony vcr, the sound sucks. I suspect that the speakers are so good, they are picking up the poor quality of the vcr. but when I run dd through the dvd...WOW!! Great, chrisp sound. Hence I am changing all my movies to DVD. The sub is very nice, not much of a difference between it and the 12" woofers(SM122) it replaced. I wish they had better directions on placement and connections, these can get very confusing. My only complaint is that the center channel seems to cut out on the highs, especially during pro logic play back, so again it could be the signal not the speaker. The remastered Star Wars trilogy on VHS sounds terrible, very poor audio quality. I am using the Sony-STR-DB 830 receiver.
So I would highly recommend these speakers for DVD, but not VCR playback....and use good connectors and 12gag speaker wire.. and I am still learning and tweaking , but these are very nice speakers...........DOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Strength:

Unbelievable better-than-theater sound.

Weakness:

None.

I just installed the Energy Encore system a few days ago and have already watched about 8 dvd movies. I don't know if I'll ever go to a theater again. I hooked it up to a Denon AVR-1800 receiver, Pioneer DV-525 dvd player and Sony XBR flatscreen tv. From the crisp clear sound of a glass breaking to the deep boom of an explosion, this system is my recommendation for home theater enthusiasts. My receiver has 5-channel stereo surround so music cd's are just as incredible. GET ONE!

just bit lacking in highs & upper midranges when playing tropical music

System---Denon AVR3300 ($768) Energy Encore ($1124) 5-year ext warranty ($168) Brandsmart with 30 days no-question-ask return policy.

What a combination!! 3300 + Encore!! Right out of the box they are amazing. For the price, size & visuals the Encore system is the best you can get out there. HT is superb & music is outstanding. There is a thunderstorm scene in Civil Action movie. All of the sudden power is lost after a lighting strike and everything gets darks. It sounded so real that my wife & I went to the glass door to check if we still had lights on outside the apartment!!

The sound image is incredible. I placed my speaker way above where the manual recommends to put them and still can hear the sound of the water hitting the ground comming out of my apartment floor.

Music sounds outstanding. Classic music sounds good as well as rock. Jazz and salsa lacks a bit of punch in the highs & upper midranges but its good enough to enjoy.
