These are great speakers. Very transparent and detailed. I have tried it with Yamaha, Marantz Denon and Roksan Kandy L3 amps. The low level bass js adequate provided you use cables that are warm sounding. With the Yamaha and Roksan, I use Tara Labs spectrum 2A ic and Van Den Hul cs-122 speaker cable. Bass is great...it is solid and lingers in the air!

Strength:
Neutral Tight and clear bass Clear treble Natural medium
Weakness:
Maybe not enough dynamic in themselves but with a dynamic amp it's not a problem. Ths vinyl cabinet is cheap compare to the nice real wood veneer of the Rega Alya. The bi-cable plugs, I don't like it! I bought my JM Lab Chorus 715 speakers in February 2004. My budget was 900,00$ CDN. I listened and compared some speakers in the same price range from PSB, Paradigm, B&W, Rega and JMLab. I chose the JM Lab speakers because they are a good match for analog and digital sources. I like the qualities of these speakers. The treble is clear but not bright or dark. The bass is tight and clear but not confused or too much warm. The medium is nice and natural but not overloaded emotionally. They are less dynamic than the Paradigm Studio 100 but more dynamic than the Rega Alya. In fact, it's the more neutral speakers that I have ever listened in its price category. It's not complicated to match a cable, a source or a cartridge with these speakers because they are transparent and reveal the personnality of the source. Also, the tweeter is a at the right level with my ears when I'm sitting on my sofa. I don't regret my choice. In sum, if you have a warm and dynamic amp with analog and digital sources, these speakers are for you. Similar Products Used: Paradigm, PSB, Rega and B&W |

Strength:
Great detail, tight bottom end, w i d e soundstage reproduction. Mate well with tube amplification. Very reasonable price.
Weakness:
Finish isn't that great. A little short in ultimate bottom end reproduction. These speakers turned out to be an excellent value! 900.00 in CDN dollars! I use an extensively modified, vintage tube system - Dynaco st-70, Dynaco pas-2x, Eico hft-92, Nad 541i, and a rega planar 2. When I first put these speakers into the system I found them to be a little bright. After about 10 months of "breaking in" they sound fabulous. Excellent wide soundstage, treble, bottom-end (tight!) as well as a warm expansive midrange reproduction. These speakers are a relatively easy load to drive and are quite sensitive (91db). These qualities seem to make them a fine match for tube amplifiers - I certainly enjoy what I am hearing. If you can find them buy'em. I also audition the 925 and liked these alot better. Five stars for these little sleepers. |

These speakers saved me. I bought a Harman Kardon receiver (HK3370) and multiple cd player (FL 8380) and the sound quality was far from good with two different types of speakers. I was almost at the point were I just wanted to get rid of the (expensive) HK products. Finally, there was a discount on the JMlab Chorus 715 and I could test them with my HK products. The result was very good and the speakers, especially when bi-wired (yes, there is a difference), could compensate most of the problems I had with the receiver and the cd player (sound not clear, lack of highs and bass, too much medium, not enough dynamics, boring). I wouldn't say that I now have the best stereo for the price but thanks to the JMLab's it became a very decent set. I can imagine that, with a good quality (NAD, Cambridge, Rotel, etc.) amplifier and cd-player, the sound must just be wonderful. Some of you may think that I just had a speaker problem and that the HK products are not the problem. Well, I don't think so because I made comparisons with another (cheaper) HiFi set and the result with my former speakers was much better. What is nevertheless possible is that the HK products have strengths (high current, power) and weaknesses (highs, dynamics) which make the JMlab's an ideal match (or saver) for them. |

Strength:
excellent high's, can't beat the price, tight bass. very open soundstage.
Weakness:
none The JmLab company(focal) makes excellent products. They are one of the few companies that actually make every component of the speaker. I find that a plus. But what makes these speakers so great is there tweeter's. They are excellent. I owned a pair of the cobalt series, and didn't like them as much as the chorus. For the money you will not find a better pair of speakers, that work great for music and home theather. I do recommend letting these speakers break in for about 100 hours before you will see the real performance of these speakers Similar Products Used: Definitive technology, martin logan, paradigm. |

Strength:
superb definition and coherence
Weakness:
bass not as deep or extended i recommended these speakers to my friend which he bought after listening to a lot of british speakers. jm lab are definitely under-rated as they are head and shoulders above all british speakers i've heard at the same price. the 715s sounded more open and transparent than anything else at the price point and most importantly it sounded very lively and coherent. the mids are glorious and the bass sounded tight though not deep enough. they are defintely for jazz, classical and vocals. Strength:
Vocals are very very clean, neutrality, sound stage and dynamics are very impressive.
Weakness:
Bass is a little bit tight especially for movies I've been searching for months searching for loudspeakers that will suit my taste. I've done auditioning the B&W S3 series, the 603 & 604, these are quite relatively good speaker, but I find the sound stage not too up front like the 715s, the Studio series of JBL, the Q's of KEF, Q5, Q7 and the Mission 782,780. All I can say is, they don't match the neutrality of JMLab Chorus 715. The sound is very open, very clean, for others they might too bright, the sound stage is awesome, female vocals really seems in front of you unlike other speakers mentioned above, the vocals seems inside the box. The dealer advised to break it in for 100 hrs. to get the best result thereafter. Similar Products Used: B&W DM604, JBL S310, Mission 782 |

Vocals, esp. female: try Fleetwood Mac Imaging is very accurate. On good recordings, you can pin point every instrument.
Weakness:
Definitely require a good pair of speaker cables. I auditioned the Chorus 715's in store, and ended up purchasing a set of 725's. My system does double duty: stereo music, and home theater. I looked at a lot of speakers that were excellent for home theater and good for music as well, or so I thought. I was very close to buying a set of Energy Connoisseur C-9s, then I heard these. I was listening to a female vocalist on Django Reinhardt's Verve masters disk, and the salesman switched over to the 715s. I couldn't believe my ears. I thought that he had turned on a center channel, because the vocals just popped up and out. The energys were much more directional and did not image as well. They were excellent for theater for the same reason. That was the end of my search. I have found these to be excellent speakers for everything that I have thrown at them: rock, classical, jazz, and a little bluegrass. They were a little bright right out of the box, but that is long gone now. I also found that they were somewhat sensitive to speaker cable selection. I started with budget 14ga. in about 2m lengths, and was disappointed with brightness and lack of bass extension. I have used Kimber 4VS, Monster Z2 Biwire, and Audioquest Type 4. I kept the Monsters, for price and performance, but would recommend the Kimbers. Definitely avoid the radio-shack type stuff. As far as the 725s over the 715s, I feel that I have a little deeper bass and stronger mids, but I am not sure that it was worth the extra $300. My system: Denon AVR 3802 McIntosh MCD7009 Realistic LAB-2000 JMLab Chorus 725- one pair Audioquest Diamondback Interconnect Monster Cable Z2 Biwire Speaker Cable Similar Products Used: PSBs, Energy Connoisseur, Paradigm Monitors, KEF, B&W, Polk I don't think that I would have been disappointed with any of the speakers that I was listening to, but I was very impressed by the JMLabs, |
