Bought these to replace my Bose 141 which went kaput when my trusty 30 year old Denon PMA 720 amp decided to throw a wobbly, taking out both the amp and speakers. Have paired these with a Yamaha A-S500 integrated amp and so far they have performed well. originally had them on stands but found that the bass lacked depth, but after wall mounting them on some good quality AVF mounts with the rear bass port reflecting off the wall they have improved quite considerably and continue to do so the more I use them. I always use the Mama's and Papa's "California dreaming" when trying out my speakers and i must admit for a £100 pair of speakers they perform admirably. |

Strength:
Good value for money
Weakness:
Over trebley
I bought these speakers to replace some Kef Coda sevens. Being a rock fan I found them too harsh in the mid to high frequencies unless played at particuraly low volumes. I think the tweeters are more aggresive than the silk dome type found on the coda's which are now a lot more commonplace on contemporary speakers. I found soundstaging and precision pretty good, bass weak, but not surprising for their size. being rear ported you do have to avoid confining them to corners and close too walls (at least a couple of feet away) unless you want over the top boomy bass that drowns everything else out. So not good for small rooms like studys and small bedrooms. Overall ok for low volume listening. But not enough presence for complex rock and pop. |

Good value speakers that do more than enough to justify the asking price. Build quality is OK but styling is a little grim. Do bi-wire if you're hooking these up to a decent amplifier/mini system - there is definite sharpening and tightening to the sound. Bass is perfectly fine for late night in the kitchen type listening. On the whole, the Gales are capable, solid enough, maybe a little bright, but do a good job if you're not into spending bizarre amounts of cash on your kit. Too small for rooms of size. |

Strength:
Sturdy and well built (except grille pins!)
Weakness:
Positioning, colouration and dispersion! Overpriced when new, and sold second hand for comparable prices to Tannoy's and Monitor Audio's - much more competant speakers for the size and money! Without the finances to become an audiophile I've been striving for bargain speakers for some time. I came across these speakers and they seemd well built and good enough. Although one grille pin is missing, there was no other damage to these speakers. Very position conscious, the bass can easily become overdominant. The dispersion of the treble is very poor, when listening within close proximity the higher frequencies can be lost all together. Image staging is acceptable for the price when positioned ideally, the speakers set around eye level. Severe colouration spoils these speakers as cheap seconds, familiar vocals become deep nasal renditions! These will not suit complex music, for instance NIN or Smashing Pumpkins, whilst soundscapes such as Enya or Sigur Ros seem to compliment the speakers quite well. Ideal for the bedroom whilst home from uni! Similar Products Used: Tannoy Mercury M20 Gold Sony plastic numbers... Musical Fidelity MC2s Tannoy M2s |

Strength:
Excellent value for money as a second speaker set or as a replacement for a mini-system pair of plastic box speakers. Tight bass, especially good with vocals and classical music, but these can rock with metal, trance whatever. Rear connectors are extremely high quality, compared with more expensive speakers and when used with Gale's banana plugs and XL-315 cable - brilliant.
Weakness:
None really for the money - a bit trebly on some pieces of music, but not too bad - works well with "warm" sounding equipment like the Quad and Denon amps. I bought these little speakers as a pair to use in my home office, connected to an old Quad 303/33/FM3 system which I had in the loft. The size was perfect and the beech finish went well with everything else in the room. Previously, I had had the system connected to JR149's (c. 1978!) and once run-in they have performed consistently well. I have bi-wired them which makes all the difference and placed them about 10cms from the wall on Blu-tack blobs. Overall, I was and am very impressed with the quality of the stereo image and range from these speakers and in a relatively small room (5m x 3m)the bass is plenty.I am tempted to use them in an 5.1 set up in the lounge, after reading some of the other reviews!! Strength:
They have a punchy bass and a very clear and detaled sound ,
Weakness:
There is only 1 weakness and that is the overall look of the loudspeakers The speakers at the all round produce a excellent sound and have a very deep bass when placed correctly. These speakers are a very good buy. |

Strength:
clarity, fits in(beech look) with trendy wood effct floors (god knows what the black one`s are about?) mid sounds like a tweetr, tweeter doesn`t sound of anything. i suspect the treble is mainly coming from the mid speaker due to an over-stiff cone. still, at least it doesn`t sound `wooly`, but `tight`
Weakness:
have been told they look cheap. They go with my front room (is that worrying?) heck, they were. Very thin bass, thankfully topped up with rear, or maybe could be eq`d out. Mine have been with me through a few changes in 13 months.I needed a pair of rear speakers for my prologic system and got them as an impulse buy in richer sounds(one press-on speaker cover missing)at £60!.Plugged up and didn`t notice much difference until messing about with the settings. Then me and other half were watching telly and a plane was taking off, towards the camera view.We both ducked, heads between knees!,coming up laughing at each other!! Then, the downfall.we decorated the room. wood-effect floor replaced carpet, curtains became vertical blinds and upholstery became leather sofas. We finally finished and got the system set up again. Not much was going on........until a comedy. The first laugh left us horrified. It bounced off the walls and echoed and reverbed as if we were in church. The `immersed` effect had gone and music sounded cr@p. Now use as my main speakers with subs running from bass amps (4-amp set-up) from behind. have ignored the dolby. doesn`t work in this room, tried everything. Subs on stands but gales not. skint right now but that`s next. Strength:
Reliable. Uncoloured sound. Compact. Good imaging.
Weakness:
Light in the bass department, but then, they are small ! Clear un-coloured sound. If you don't put them in the corners of the room then the stereo imaging is excellent. You could almost poke individual instruments with your finger. Similar Products Used: JBL Control1, JBL Control 5 |

Strength:
Rubber surrounds, comes with speaker grilles, Inverted cone cap.
Weakness:
Too small and light. Too expensive. Color Sounds good I think. Compared to my old panasonic portable stereo It actually sounds better. I now listen to music through this speaker. My amplifier is a Rotel 980BX and the CD is a Cambridge CD4. This replaced my Panasonic portable and The package sound so much better. I get stoned when I listen to music so who knows maybe I'm just tripping. Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
Very vivid bass and clear treble
Weakness:
none yet I have bought them Gale Gold Monitor MKII to enhance the sound of my SHARP mini and I have to admit that I am quite impressed by their performance. I was using the speakers with single-wire cables and they sounded very good. After I bi-wired them with the appropriate the sound changed and became clearer and more stable. Several friends of mine were quite impressed by their power and congratulated me on their purchase. From all the speakers I heard in their price range they were the only ones that could produce such a bass and the difference was very obvious. I highly recommend them since they combine power and clarity for such a low price. |
