Having lost a good system (Infinity 2.5 Reference Standards, Denon, etc.) in a divorce a few years ago, I set out to replace my less than satisfactory 'cheap' speakers.
I purposely auditioned speakers other then Infinity's and did not feel obligated to buy Infinity speakers again. After auditions, reading reviews and some thinking - I decided to purchase OV-2s. Being on a budget this purchase would have to wait, so I decided to upgrade my center first. CC had a blowout sale on OV-1s and I picked one up for my center channel. Of course, I first hooked it up as a front speaker to see if it was any good (just can't tell in CCs listening room). Well... I still need a center channel because I literly ran back to buy another OV-1. I'm still sitting here dumbfounded, trying to figure out where all the sound is coming from, including very ample bass???

These speakers are accurate enough to show up deficiencies in equipment and media. There size makes placement easier then spending the $$$ for a little box. If you're out to buy sound and not boxes, have some budget and size constraints - I just don't think you can go wrong with the OV-1s. Someday I'll buy OV-2s and these can be the rears, but for now I'm very pleased with these speakers.

For several months I had been telling my girlfriend that we needed "real" surround speakers. We had a pair of klipsh bookshelves that just didn't cut it; but try to convince someone who could care less about audio equipment and whose mantra is "I can't tell the difference," that you need yet more audio equipment. You get a blank stare. Then comes the killer. "You're going to spend HOW MUCH on speakers!" Clearly, I had my work cut out for me. So I got on-line and started boppping around sites, reading reviews. The Overture 1 caught my attention because 1) I already have Infinity Compositions for my front 3 and 2) they were reasonably priced. The reviews of the sound clinched the deal. Now came the hard part. After work, I captured my woman and drove to the store. I pointed them out. She wasn't too upset. She could see they wouldn't dominate our decore. Plus they easily fit into a budget. When we came home and found that the puppy ate some wires around the house, I swooped in for the kill; we had to get the speakers to get the wires out of the way. She agreed, and the speakers were purchased. What a pair of speakers! Clear highs. Excellent middles. And the BASS! Talk about your raw power! These little babies perked up the room the second they were in, making our HT much more dynamic. Even my self-confessed "don't care" girlfriend had to admit she could hear the difference. During another fact finding mission to our local dealer, in which she was sold on a Lexicon DC-1, she actually suggested that we get another set of Overtures for the special "side" speakers the Lexicon supports. Now that's an endorsement. For those of you who have to fit a speaker in a budget, in a room, and get all the sound quality and punch you can, these are your speakers.

I am quite impressed with these small speakers. They do not sound like a foot tall bookshelf. The highs are very clear and the entire range is very natural sounding. With the amplified woofer these can really be a potent bass preformer, especially with HT. Just about any amp can drive these speakers because of the high efficientcy and internal amp for the 8 inch woofer. If you are looking for a small, unobtrusive, but great sounding pair of speakers that can handle explosions as well as a viloin passages, I would suggest to go audition these Infinity Overture 1.

I purchased a pair of Overture I's a couple of months back and have been very pleased. Say what you want about CC, yeah the selection sucks and their sales staff may be uninformed, but they are customer concienous!
After reading the enlighting postings on the AM-5's, I was able to negotiate an exchange on the Overture I. I was significantly outside the window on the one year trade up policy yet the store manager worked with me. ( It definitly pays to keep the original boxes & packing, yes even for three years). To the people at Bose, you should be ashamed of yourselves!

The Overture I are excellent for there size. My listening area is awfull. Limited space and highly reflective materials make for a boomy room. My speakers are on top of an entertainment center about 7' up. After much experimentation with speaker position, the OV1 offerers added considerations with the side mounted woofer, I have found that placing the speakers on their side and bouncing the bass off the ceiling works best.

I am using 6"-8" speaker stands turned backwards. This gives me a few degrees of downward sploe into the listening area. The distance to the ceiling is about 20"-24" and creates nice punchy bass with out becoming boomy.

I have also found that equalizing out some midrange at higher volume improves overall sound.(Again I am dealing with a harsh room). All in all you cant go worng with the OV1's. I am not versed in all the Audiophile jargon so I will only say that the OV1's are definately worth a trip to CC.

If you are faced with limited space or are looking to place a set of speakers up high consider these relitively small powerhouses.

When looking for a new pair of speakers, I was attracted to the Infinity Overture 1 for the incedible sound that they could produce from such a small inclosure. The 8-inch woofer is powered by its own 150W amp, releasing the strain from your amplifier. Added to that is their 92db rating for efffiency. I wanted a speaker that is both musical and was a powerful home theater preformer. The Overture 1 mated with a CC-3 center provides a very seamless soundstage and in a small room, you can do without a sub, since the OVTR 1's can shake the floor quite remarkably for a 13 inch speaker. In another review of these speakers, placement was stressed as important. Another thing that is important is good speaker cable and interconnects. After ugrading the cables, I could notice a greater depth and soundstage, along with more of a midrange and they eliminated a tendency towards brightness on the high end, and they provided a more solid bass. So just make sure to use good cables, these speakers seem to be quite sensitive to that.
After I made those adjustments, the sound they produce is excellent. They are very even tonally across the frequency. The midrange has a crisp and fast reaction, and the treble is very clear, but very listenable and not bright at all (after the cable switch). The bass is the thing that you will notice at first. It is deep and tight, not what you would expect from a bookself speaker. In my small room, leaving the bass control at the midpoint is a fine setting for a natual bass without becoming boomy or too thin. As the volume increases, the speakers hold their composure, they sound great loud as well.
Another thing that really impressed me is their build quality. It is excellent. They have molded drivers with rubber surrounds and a front molded baffle that conceals all screws. On back, they have a heat sink for the amp, and gold plated binding posts, and red/green light to detect a signal and the bass control.
Overall, these speakers are wonderfull performer. I have looked and can't find a speaker in this category and price range that can match the Infinity Overture 1 in sound quality, features, sensitivity, versatility and price. It is a definite over achiever and I fully recommend it.
