Strength:
sound clarity, focus
Weakness:
What's with that flimsy grill? The clarity of the sound, especially mid to high tone, is simply amazing. Together with the fact they are very directional, they produce a very accurate image. To this end, I like to compliment the engineers at Infinity for not compromising. I have yet to listen to a pair of speakers that achieves this quality better. Of course, the drawback of this kind of speakers is that they give you a burden: you have to experiment with the positions of the speakers and the listener. The sweet spot is very narrow, so that sometimes you have to sit or stand very awkwardly to be in "the zone". You move one foot away from that sweet spot, the focus deteriorates. I do not mind this, but for some people, it can be a hassel. Fortunately, those of you who like ambience can use DSP of AV receivers. I have a Yamaha RX2090 and some of its DSP fields are very ambient with surround speakers (front and rear). |

Strength:
Very detailed in mid and high (fast), crisp and offering a clean bass reproduction
Weakness:
Internal finish and the floorconstruction with spikes I use a Rotel RC 995 preamp with a Cambridge A75 poweramp. The IO3's behave very well using all types of music (if recorded well enough in the studio). What immediately struck me was the level of detail offered. The response and speed of the speaker units is really superb. The bass is really clean, sometimes al little empty. I think this is caused by the bass amplifier. The small bass drivers in conjuction with the lowamp are not able to deliver the same response of the mids although they produce the needed DB pressure. But that is not the same of course. Strength:
great mids and highs
Weakness:
poor quality control at time of purchase i have owned the ovurture 3s for about 2 years now..a little slow to do a review..bought them in march of 1999...when i first got them from the store one of the midrange drivers was blown......believe it or not, right out of the factory,,,,and i did buy them brand new for 1400 a pair....which was an absolute steal at that time..cicruit city was selling them for 1250 a piece.....so i brought them back and they just took another good driver out of another new speaker and then it worked fine..make sure whenever you buy a new set of speakers that you put your ear right next each driver and make sure their working properly.....i may not have noticed the blown driver had i not done this......anyways i have a yamaha model 995 receiver driving the 3s and i have an ovurture 1 in the center.....have definitive bpx for surround{those are great too]...i still love these speakers as much as the day i bought them.....they sound great with my brighter sounding yamaha.....i listen to both music and home theater...they sound great for both......for music..what i like best about them is you can turn them up way loud and the tweeters will not hurt your ears.....very smooth sound...not and ice pick in the ear sound like the kliptch horns......and the definitive bp2000 sounded alittle flat for music,i thought......i keep the bass set at around 1/4 and that sounds the most natural to me for music..if i set it higher then the bass sounds a bit to much and unnatural for some types of music.....i listen to alot of classic rock like aerosmith and ufo.so the bass hits real hard to begin with..for home theater i keep the bass setting still on 2 1/2 and there is plenty of bass for dvds.....i could use a standalone sub to really shake the room but if i do want more bass then i can just turn up the bass setting for home theater to about 7 or so.then they do shake the room pretty good..but generally i dont like to keep adjusting the bass because i listen to equal music and movies...my brother is really into music and he has a set of old jbl L100s and a new set of jbl studio monitors....so hes really into sound......whenever he comes over and heres my 3s he just shakes his head in amazement.....says"man rick those this are awesome"......if you can find them then grap a pair.....you wont be disappointed.....i know some people have said some negative things about them......maybe they had the wrong combination setup...the yamaha 995 sounds great with the 3s....best midrange i have ever heard from speakers that i auditioned..and i listened to paradigm,definitive,kliptch,polk..also the ovurtune 1 is a great center speaker...it has the power sub also so you get a wall of power from the front line all the way across...take it from a guy who has lived with these for 2 years now..i would have loved to get the cherry finish but my wife wouldnt let me,she wanted the black to match the decor in the room..but the black look great too...and they are narrow so they dont take up much room at all...i have them set up about 10 inches from back wall and about 13 feet apart.....toed in alittle.....if i had to pick one thing i like most about them it would be the fact that i can turn them up to body shaking levels{i love my music very loud}and the tweeters simply do not get too bright and rip my eardrums apart......very smooth sound..someone told me its because of the silk dome tweeters......hope you can find a pair......seeing that they dont make them anymore......rick Similar Products Used: kliptch, definitive, polk |

These speakers are KILLER!!! In each one you"ll find its own 300watt subwoofer! These babies will literally rattle your teeth. They have two 5.25 inch midrange drivers along with a 1inch silk dome tweeter the gives incredible vocals and highs along with the gutwrenching bass. I have poured 150watts into each of them and they didnt even blink! Enough said ,find somewhere you can go to listen to them and you'll see for your self. They are the most detailed speakers you've ever heard. Just listen to them. They'll sell their selves!!! an easy 5 star rating |

These speakers are way overpriced, they have the same sound as my Overture 1's, which I paid 750 for the pair. These run for 2500 a pair!Great sound, not value. |

I have had the ovtr-3s for a year and a half. I have loved these speakers from the moment I first heard them. They produce excellent sound throughout; but excel in the midrange area. Definitely a winner. |

ok i listened to these babies and was impressed but not enough to shell out $1200 each. I really hate the idea though of adding woofers to the speakers. I have a $1000 woofer that could shell out more bass sounds then these speakers ever could imagine. I have never liked the idea of woofers in speakers...i like the standalone woofers..they sound twice as good...and then you don't suffer from the losing your frequencies. still they are good speakers but not spectacular to me at all. |

These are simply great speakers. I have had them now for 7 months and still as great as the first day I bought them. Even though the bass still was not enough for me they do put out an amazing amount. If you just add a good sub like I did (I bought the Sunfire Truesub MK II) you will have yourself one hell of setup ;) |
