I agree with Fred 100%. I auditioned these speakers carefully and althoughthey certainly sounded fine, they lacked the sophisticated sound of a true high quality speaker. Detail, warmness, and soundstage were all lacking. There are
better speakers out there for the price.

Strength:

Superior clarity from mid range well through the high end of the audio spectra. Good imaging and transparency, fairly attractive package and therefore good WAF. -- (Wife Acceptance Factor). Best for classical, solo instrumentals (violin, piano) and vocals (solo jazz and opera)where high definition detail is desired.

Weakness:

Bass is tight and clear, but needs just a little bit more -- possibly 3 to 6 db @ 3meters fron 28 to 60 hz.

A buddy had these for sale, so I pick them up at a 'fair' used street price -- but they are spotless -- clean and not a single scratch on the ash black finish.

I needed some thinner speakers for my listening room because the NAKs are going in my kid's room. Figured these were semi-junk speakers until I took a test try at my friend's house.

My music tastes are primarily classical and jazz, but like most audiofiles, I listen to a very broad range of material (from Baroque to Bluegrass to the Blues) These speakers did wonderfully. I feel akinda ripped-off about the NAKs, being they retailed over $750 each.

As reference, I drive the speakers with a BGW 750 amp and a Kyocera CD player.

These speakers are not for everyone, but at the used market price versus the outstainding performance make them a bargain.

Strength:

Value, engineering that came from more expensive model.

Weakness:

Bass

These are my main speakers driven by a standard Nakamichi RE-10 receiver. I feel that a subwoofer is essential with the RS 2000.6. I paid $179.00 ea. from the military PX catalog (closeout) and have been happy with them (for the money) ever since.

Strength:

Very musical over the entire audio range

Weakness:

Getting the spikes just right (especially on a carpet)

This is a followup to my previous review.

For those of you who claim that these speakers have little or no bass, let me say that the supplied spikes are essential (not optional) and their length makes a difference in bass output.

According to the users manual, the minimum length is 5/8" inches and the maximum length is 1-1/8"

Remember that on this speaker, the port fires downward (on its replacement the RS-5 the port is in the rear) so there must be enough space between the port and the carpet. If your carpet has any kind of thickness to it, then I would recommend extending the spikes to their maximum 1-1/8" length.

When I originally bought these speakers early in 1997 I set the spikes to their maximum and the bass response was excellent. Over the years I had to move these speakers and they are a pain in the butt to get right on a carpet. Many times they would wobble so I had to adjust one or more spikes and usually I shortened them in the process. As a result, some of the bass went too. But in rearranging my equipment this past weekend, I set all the spikes to their maximum and the excellent bass returned. Of course, I still use a powered sub for DD and DTS. But for music, these speakers have more than ample bass response!

The bottom line is that shortening them, even a quarter of an inch, can make a difference! So before selling these great speakers short, experiment with the spikes.
