This speakers are excellent considering its size and price. Work great with DVD and VHS, because separate de sound with precision. The sound is not expansive like big speakers, this improve definitión in movies. For music sounds very good but are not the best speakers; if you are audiophile you have to put more money to get better sound. Very good speakers and a low price.

I just received the RS-3's today from Netmarket and one word can describe them....AWESOME!!! The bass is not overpowering, but just right. The high's are simply superb. Alot better than my last set of bookshelf speakers (Bose 301's which I returned). A great choice for movies. I am hearing things on the movies, that I have never heard before. I love the binding-post connectors, (take note Bose) because of the numerous hook up options. Build quality is excellent. I have mine on a set of stands and this really makes it look good. I would recommend stands to anyone getting these. The BEST speakers in the world for 200.00 at Netmarket. It will take me longer to come up with some better responses, because I still have to "break" them in. Get this speaker, you will not be dissapointed. Bravo, Infinity! Ten stars, if it would let me.

Good speakers for a small price. Nothing an audiophile would want but for the rest of us, they are hard to beat for the money.

Wonderful! Check the Internet for deals. You should be able to get a pair for around $200. You will get that rare feeling that you've gotten more than your money's worth.

It is me again. I just bought another pair of the RS-3's to use as my surrounds to go along with my pair of RS-3's in the front. Along with the Infinity BU-120 and the Infinity CC-3 center, this is one hell of a wicked setup. All the high's and lows and mids that you can handle. If you are really considering the RS-3's, I say go for it. If you go to a place like Circuit City or Best Buy, just remember, the rooms that they have you in are perfectly setup for any kind of speakers. Take a pair home and try them for yourself. I can bet that you would not be taking them back!

How good is the RS3? It is definitely worth listening. I recommend these speakers to my friend since I used to own a pair of comparable old version infinity speakers (also RS3, a three way speak with 8" bass driver.) This RS3 is a two way speaker with a 6 ½" bass driver, it sounds very close to its old brother with 8" driver. The look is more modern if not very elegant. The grill is a piece of plastic sheet instead of a cloth cover. It doesn't weight much. Through the rear port, you see a hollow inner space which indicates an inexpensive design.
After several generations, the characteristics of RS3 haven't changed a lot. This new RS3 sounds clean and loud. It is definitely a step up from rack system or lower mass market speakers like Pioneer, Technics and Radio Shack brand ones. It has crispy highs, clear mids and deep bass. The sound image is as good although not refined. It works quite well alone in a small room or den. Since its bass is strong, you can also use them for rear speakers in a home theater setting with quite strong rear signal strength. Good for dolby digital movies.

Although it is a good small speaker, the $400 retail price is rather high. With $400, you have a lot of good choices out there. Speaking of hi fidelity, this speaker doesn't not generate "original" sounds quite well. Listening to classical music with a pair of it wouldn't convince you that you are listening to real instrument sounds. Although its accuracy is rated more than 90%, it is for certain frequency sounds. The overall frequency response is by far from smooth. The sound from RS3 is not as smooth as many small speakers such as Celestion, Dalquest, NHT, AR or Polk (all of those have less bass than Infinity has at this level.) Also, all RS infinity speakers sound bright, which destroys mid range clarity. This brightness will be admired by casual listeners. Once you gain experience with good hi-fi systems, you will appreciate more natural sound.

However, web sites sell this RS3 for $200 or less for a pair. This will be a good deal. Generally speaking, this RS3 is a good speaker. It sounds better than all rack system and most $200 range speakers. If you want to use it alone, it would be worth buying it. But if you consider using a subwoofer, then there are other better choices. These speakers don't deliver smooth (natural) highs and mids. It is not for critical classical music listening. But at $200 range, no speaker beats its sound, specially in bass. If you want to spend only $200 for a pair of good speakers, RS3 is one of the best choices. If your room is a little bit bigger than 11X 12, you will need a pair of RS4, on sale at $250 at shop4.com, which is also an excellent deal.

I would give a solid 4 stars for this speaker. My rating is more based on performance than on value. If we rate the speakers by several categories, like Sound quality, depth, sound stage, value, we can be more accurate for our ratings.

Main components used for testing:

Marantz SR685
Interactive Labs Fatboy amplifier (Hometheater Magazine's Favorite 5 Ch amp)
Pineer DV414 DVD/CD player
Monster Original Speaker Cables (a mass market, although higher, model)

Using as rear speakers w/ RS-5 L/R, BU-120 and an older CC spkr.Haven't heard the RS-3's be challenged yet, but I love the whole setup and they look great. Great match w/ RS-5 as a rear speaker since they have the same tweeter and mid. Pd. abt $200 on internet.
Love em.

Strength:

Lots of detailed sound, lots of bass

Weakness:

Front Baffle is quite cheesy, overall build quality

I stole these from Mercata.com for $150, only after scouring the net for the best deal for the past month. Anyway, anyone searching for a bookshelf speaker with a ton of sound output will be happy with this one. Today, I added a Marantz CC4000 to my Yamaha HTR-5150 with Audioquest Type 2+ speaker cable, (all of which are brand new this past week) and I couldn't be happier. I thought that soft listening levels weren't that great on these speakers to begin with. Plus it seems like I couldn't get positioning and treble/bass controls just right for them. But after today, the problems are completely solved. I really feel that Infinity accomplished making a very accurate great sounding speaker at a relatively low cost to the company. Please don't buy at retail: you could get Paradigms instead (even though I don't think they are much better really) Anyway, I will be upgrading to RS5's when I move into an apartment next year, so I am confident I can only make this system sound sweeter. I can't give this thing a full 5 stars, so I'll average it out at 4.5

Later,
Ben S.
