Strength:

The attractive design and small footprint are nice. The metal grilles do not seem to affect the sound at all, and it looks much cooler than fabric, esp. with the drivers showing from behind. (Also better for me with two small kids and 4 cats!)

Weakness:

The rear porting means they need to be away from the walls to really hear the bass when you're sitting in front of them.

Beuatiful, clear mids and highs, and not harsh or overbearing. The bass is good but not quite as strong as I'd like. If the music and CD are produced well though, that deep bass is definitely there (esp. with good jazz).

My system for the last 15 years has been a Denon 70 W/ch receiver and Infinity ES-83s. I had a 10 band/ch EQ on that system and I never found anything to match the sound of that setup. My new JVC RX-888V (120 W/ch) with the RS-5s comes close, and in some ways sounds better, but overall the older system sounded better. It fell apart (literally -- the speakers had foam-rot and the receiver had Alzheimers) so I finally had to trade up. I auditioned the RS-5s alongside the JBL HLS820s and the Polk RT800s -- the JBLs had better bass but seemed lacking in mid-range and didn't sound as clear as the RS5s, and the Polks I just wasn't impressed with for the money.

Strength:

Increible en la claridad de sus altos

Weakness:

Poco Bajo

I just bought these speakers last night, wonderful. I replaced Mission 701's as my fronts and will move them to the rear. The RS5's add so much bass. I got decent bass from the Mission's and a great mid. But the difference is out of this world. I have it hooked up to an H/K AVR75 which I got from OneCall for $900 Canadian, $1000 less then anywhere in Canada. Speakers make the system all that more enjoyable. Pretty good price to, Listed mostly around $600-$700 US on the internet, got them for $799 Can.

Strength:

Great sound for the price, slick design, small footprint.

Weakness:

None--if you want a ton bass you'll probably want a sub anyway.

I paired these with RS3s in the rear and powered them with a Pioneer VSX-3800. For non-audiophile music listening they're great. Friends who went after a home theater system had to add a sub to their RS5s. In my opinion, it isn't necessary. I don't think you can buy a better pair of speakers for the money--listened to Bose and Klipsch in the same price range. I got mine from shop4 for $360 plus shipping.

Strength:

Clarity, bass, overall sound is excellent for the buck!

Weakness:

None

Although these are my first set of good speakers, I don't believe you could make a better choice for the price, ($480 for the pair at Circuit City). Infinity has discontinued this line of speakers so I'm sure you can find them cheaper. I listened to the Infinity's side by side to Polks and Bose and thought these sounded much better, your ears don't lie. Plenty of bass(for me), highs and mids are great and they look good too. Excellent set of speakers for the price!

The RS5's will give real life to sound for $440(shipping included)+Sub+120watts per channel. I lost this level for awhile but now the MIDI is back to roaring and recordings are ingratiating. This is probably the most cost effective way to get your own sound studio. The RS5's and a good powered sub are the heart of it all. Of course there is better for more but this is a wonderful level to get to.

Great highs and mid range, but a little disappointing on the low end due to them only having 8 inch drivers.... Pair them with a subwoofer though, and they rock! They sound incredible with Infinity CC3 Center Channel, RS2 rear speakers and a JBL 1200 subwoofer in home theater...

Strength:

Size, vocals, midrange

Weakness:

lack of strong bass

Just purchased these based on prior reviews from Circuit City for $199 each - a customer had just returned them after one day and purchased a larger polk set - my win! They are outstanding. I think a subwoofer is necessary, and positioning is key. Am using with Advent rears and driving with a new JVC-888V. Always the key to nice speakers = they sound good at low volumes!! Will pickup background hiss on AAD CD's etc. BUT will also show you what you may have missed on the CD's you love. Definitely a better choice than the RS4. CC EXPERT CONFIRMED THAT THESE ARE BEING PHASED OUT BY INFINITY and that Infinity is going to concentrate on high-end only. Pick them up while they are still out there!!!

Weakness:

slightly top heavy, but not bad at all

I found that these speakers are the best I have heard on the market out off all floor/tower spearkers! They make eveerything you listen to so intense! They are so smooth and crisp! You hear evry detail in everything you listne to! It is like listening to a cd or watching a movie for the first time all over again!

Strength:

Great Full Range sound, nice tight bass, not boomy, these little guys can handle lots of power without flinching!

Weakness:

flimsy grill (I almost put a hole in the speaker because it fell out!), also the shipping carton is pretty crappy - they were packed in styrofoam peanuts with the grill cover removed, leaving the drivers vulnerable to shipping damage

First of all, I will not compare these speakers to anything that is more expensive than what I paid for these ($370.00 delivered!) The only thing I will say is that these speakers are perfect, absolutely perfect for a small to medium room. I will be adding a sub though, because for 5.1 dvd's the low effects are missing for the most part. Open these up with your favorite cd's and you're in for a treat. Try the new Steely Dan and you'll understand!

For anyone who says that they believe in satalite/sub systems..... go try a pair of these out! They are very well built (except for the grill, but as long as you don't have cat's with claws, they look better without the grills!) Pick up a pair while they're being given away, and before they are gone!

My only gripe is the flimsy grill and the way that Infinity packs these speakers. When I got them, they had a piece of hard foam at the top and bottom of the cabinet, the grill was packaged in cardboard and attached to the rear of the cabinet, and the rest of the box was filled with foam peanuts. The problem here? The drivers were not covered and the foam peanuts were basically "moshing" in the box. I had to pick out pieces of foam from the tweeter, and felt lucky that none of the speakers were damaged. An easy fix would have been to create a piece of cardboard that would cover the fronts of the speakers for transit. Oh well, they got here safe!

Oh, and if you are interested, because I am always curious what others are using, my system consists of:

Infinity RS5 (mains)
Infinity RS3 (surrounds - great compliment to the RS5's)
Acoustic Research AR2C (this is a REAL center channel, none of this 4" speaker garbage!)
Pioneer VSX-24TX (THX receiver - great bang for the buck!)
Pioneer DV-626D (DVD player - solid unit that can play CD-R's)
RCA 36665 (36" TV - it's OK, the best I found in the price range)

And another thing, if you want great prices on the top consumer gear, try www.soundpros.com
