Strength:

Great sound

Weakness:

Too expensive otherwize

These are great speakers, especially on power-buy from mercata.com. I have listened to all the RS series and Polks in the same price range. These are the best of the bunch. Get in on the power buy! It ends this thursday! Lets all tell our friends and we will get these for a great deal!

Strength:

Great Sound with absolutely fantastic value

Weakness:

needs a subwoofer for overall sound

Suggested retail is $798/pair, while most retailers sell this model for $699/pair, I was able to pick these up on sale at Circuit City for $500/pair.
The sound coming from these speakers are very lively, with action sounds come through loud and clear from my DVD movies. While a subwoofer is needed. With proper placement, I was able to get more bass out of these puppies.
While playing music, these speakers handled the soft levels of several of my classical CD's, and the loud banging of my good ole rock & roll.
You cannot go wrong with Infinity's, and for the price, the Polk's sounded about the same, but were over-priced.

Sound, style, size

Great speakers, very sexy styling. These positively blow away the Bose AM-5 setup I was using. Great for Dolby Digital films or CDs -- complemented by an Infinity SSW-10 subwoofer. After a month of research, I was going to purchase RS-4's, until I found that many smaller web resellers (the places with the prices that are so great you don't know if you can trust them) are putting new, boxed items on eBay. Paid $375 plus shipping for the pair by going this route -- only a fraction more than I was going to spend on the RS-4's. If you don't want to bother with the auction process, try contacting the reseller directly... there's a good chance they'll have plenty in stock and sell it to you at the minimum bid. Can't beat it!

First floorstanding speakers I've ever owned. Bought these after reading extensive reviews. I'm not an audiophile, but I must say I am very satisfied with this purchase.

Strength:

Sharp Crisp Highs

Weakness:

Speaker Positioning

I've owned these speakers for a little short of three months now, and have played music from 2 Pac, to Mozart, to The Beatles, to Duke Ellington and I am still impressed with the quality of these speakers. The acoustics of these speakers allow 6" woofers to play as low 30Hz. The speakers are meant to play to 35Hz and if you use a test disk, you'll see that they do play that low, but playing around with the positioning, you'll find that they will play as low as 30Hz. The imagining on these speakers are well passed my expected performance. The only problem in a home theater setup though is that the sound stage is very small if you sit too close to the speakers. Anything short of six feet disapates the sound stage. Outside of that though, the performance is exceptional. I highly recommend these speakers and are probably your best deal for under $500 the pair.

Strength:

sweet highs, clear mids.

theses speakers are wonderfull. their highs are extremely crisp, and the mids are just as accurate. as for bass, they lack the ability to produce low frequencies at loud volumes (although i was surprised at how low it went). this should not be considered a weakness however, because every true system should contain a subwoofer (unless you have the pocket for some REAL full-range speakers: Legacy Wisper, Polk SRT >=). imaging on these 40" tall speakers are also top notch, with a large sweet spot given reasonable room space. i myself have been spoiled by the evils of ribbon & electrostatic speakers; their wide soundstage and ever-existent sweet spot are above the RS-5's, but the Infinity's aren't too far behind either. i never mentioned price until now because if ordered online, these speakers will beat anything given their value.

Strength:

Midrange does a nice job.

Weakness:

Base is lacking. Sensitivity on these speakers is very poor, you will need to provide near full rated power to get these speakers to get loud. And when they get loud they seem to loose their handle on the music or movie.

I purchased these speakers and purchased the Klipsch RF-3 at the same time and placed then next to each other for a head to head test. The RS-5's on the A channel and the klipsch RF-3's on the B channel.

They were hooked up to a Denon AVR-3300 (105W / channel) as a reference for you all.

I first listened to the Infinity RS-5's playing some music from the band "Live". I must say the seakers sounded nice and I enjoyed the sound.

I then switched to channel B where the Klipsch speakers were attached. (Didn't move the Volume nob one bit) Wow!!! What a difference. The Infinity's couldn't even compete. I then porceeded to call over some friends just to make sure that the difference I herd wasn't as dramatic as I though it was. Every one was in agreement. The Klipsch speakers had a much wider sound stage. The Mids and Highs were about 50x more crisp and the base was Tight and present, while the Infinity's base seemed non existant. At high volumes, the infinity speakers couldnt keep up. they lost control of the music, muddying up the midrange and shrilling the highs. The Klipsch on the other hand were very crisp and maintained the proper balance even at the ungodly volumes we were listening to. One of my buddies actually went outside and came back in the house and said that the music from the Klipsch speakers sounded clean a few hundred feet away from my house while the infinity's sounded like mush.

I purchased the Klipsch for 550.00 a pair. The Infinity's were about 120.00 less. I say shell out the extra 120.00 and purchase the Klipsch RF-3's. You will be much more happier.

Also note. The Klipsch RF-3's are biwireable. A very nice feature for speakers in this price range.

Needless to say, the Infinity's went back to the Store (30day no questions asked return policys are the best!) and the Klipsch hold the spot of honor in my Home Theater room.

If you have any questions about my test or anything involved with Home theater, dont hesitate to drop me a line via email. binro@optonline.net

Strength:

Great Sound

Weakness:

None yet.

These speakers rock!! You won't be able to find a better sounding set for surround than these matched with the rs3's for the rear, cc3 center channel, and the bu-15 sub. I bought the entire set for just under $1500. You won't be able to find a better sounding set of speakers for the price.

These are perfectly matched with the cc3. I got these puppies, and put in the fifth element, and LOOKOUT. Just awesome. I know there are better speakers on the market, just nothing sounding this good for the price. I tried the boston acoustics surround set; doesn't even come close to sounding as good.

Don't get the qps-1's for surround. Go with the rs3's. A little bigger, but they give the fuller sound and are perfectly matched with the rs5's to create a beatiful sound field.

Infinity could work on improving the clarity on the high end, but you get that with any speaker in this price range. I tried the boston's, I checked out polk, and even looked at the energy from the good guys. These infinitys sounded better than the lot.
