Strength:

Looks, Bass, tight hitting bass on woofers, very high treble

Weakness:

Extremely poor mid-range.. When turned up very loud, midrange starts to crackle very heavy toon

I bought this product in late 2000.. and i wasnt particularly looking for jbls when selecting speakers during that period of time.. when i saw these spekers they first of all looked very good. They performed pretty well too in the store.. I tried them out at home and they sounded just as good.. But after turning them very loudly for a couple of days, i noticed the mid-range (vocals) started t crackle.. since then, i just avoided using the speakers for decibels that high and that crisp.. But basically. I would not recommend purchasing these speakers (for the price i paid anyways).. If i had known what i would find out about these speakers, i would have looked at some low end paradigm reference speakers instead!

Strength:

power handling, low distortion level, clear playback of most audible sounds, reliable and sturdy, priced right considering what you get.

Weakness:

Really big, can sound flat at the high ends.

These speakers are the bomb, no doubt about it. I have had many speakers, including Boston Acoustics, Polk, Bose, Sony, other JBLs etc. As far as bang for the buck goes, these babies can''t be beat, expecially at the prices they go for now. The base is outsanding, the highs are crystal clear, the soundstage is convincing. I have used these speakers for a year now and have yet to find a complaint about them, other than their size. In a way, though, the size is helpful I think. Allow me to explain: If you think you can get the high powered, rounded, full, enveloping sound of big floorstanding speakers from a Bose (blech) size speaker, forget it, unless you are prepared to lay down some serious cash. I have heard Polks that sound as good as these JBLs and are half the size, but they cost two to three times as much. For a working joe like me, I need maximum sound quality for under a grand, and I have it here. These speakers cover the gamut, they do everything you could want, they blast without sounding distorted, they pick up the finest nuances without sounding flat or tinny. My only complaint is that the tweeters are very transparent, meaning that high pitched sound is very obviously coming from the speakers, not the soundstage. Minor complaint, though. I got the 10" powered subwoofer with the ND-310s, and that''s all she wrote. I can rattle the windows, or let the wife sleep, and either way the sound is great.

Strength:

Excellent sound, can be found at some good prices on the net these days.

Weakness:

The cost a small fortune to ship because of their weight.

These speakers just plain rock. They arrived at my door yesterday and I cant say enough about how good they are. There arealready many review of this product, so I will be as breif as possible. 1. the soundstage is great, you feel like you are surrounded by the sound. 2. they are extremely efficient(running off a kenwood 100W receiver). 3. The bass from those 10''s is phenomenal.

Strength:

very tight bass, hits hard and fast, SOUNDSTAGE i can''''t belive the soundstage, close your eyes when listening to something (for me Pink Floyd and Def Leppard work best) and you forget there are 2 speakers there, everything is good about these, not any major flaws

Weakness:

the tweeter guard is very fradgal, but it does its job

I got these off ebay for $173.50 (pair), one tweet was bad, so it was $20 for that (got it form partsexpress and saved 50%) before these i had KLH 9912, and this is a big step up, i use a vintage Sony TA-2650 integraded amp, and its rated @ 45wpc, and it will push these pretty far, and gets loud, they are somewhat efficent spekaers (91db) for the price i paid, i can''''t complane about anything, and really if they last 2 years (they will last much longer) then they would owe me nothing, i very good product, i like the Northridge series, they look really cool

umm, well not really simaler, but KLH 9912 and the JBL''''s beat them in every catorgory (except price, and for $80/pair new, i can''''t complane about them either)

Strength:

Bass Output. Clarity

Weakness:

Haven''t found any yet.

These speakers are very very nice. I had to do Negotiating to get this price out of Best Buy but I figured that was better than paying for shipping and handling after buying them online. They are pretty darn heavy. Anyway I get them home and hook them up to my new Sherwood RD-7106 (great reciever). They Thump. The sound quality is crisp and clear and I am successful able shake things in other rooms. I was having a hard time deciding whether or not to go with Cerwin-Vega or JBL. I think I made the right Decision.

Strength:

They''re crazy efficient with generous power handling. I cut off the headphones off a free pair that came with a CD walkman and stripped down the wires... I then hooked up my walkman to the JBL''s and let the 0.5W amp drive the speakers... and it was amazing! Much louder than you would expect... certianly louder than any pair of headphones.

Weakness:

Yeah, I fried the tweets but that was my own fault. I''m a saxophone player (another reason I can''t afford $2000 speakers) and I got some musician''s earplugs (the kind that only filter out ear-damaging high frequencies) and I was seeing how well they worked. Well, the earplugs worked great! But when I turned the volume down and removed the earplugs I had smoked the tweeters. It was a real bummer and it took JBL forever to get the tweeters to me. Also, the speakers are NOT true JBL. At least the tweeters aren''t. The tweeters are made in France, and JBL only produces in America...

I go to University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. The cost is nearly $36,000 a year, and I don''t have a great deal of money left over for an audio system!! So I went speaker shopping on a budget and found these great sounding speakers! Just for kicks I told everyone my limit was $2000 so I could get a general idea of what''s on the market. These speakers easily outperformed any speaker on the market, and competed with those that cost over $1000. It''s amazing. The clarity in the highs, the rich mids and the powerful bass are sweet! Even if you''re getting this product sight-unseen, I''d say go for it! They''re fabulous speakers, especially for the cost. I wouldn''t recommend these speakers to anyone in a small living space. They''re bulky, loud, heavy and bulky.

Shipping Cost and the best prices are on the east cost.

WOW, these speakers sound amazing. I am running an old Pioneer vsx4400, 100 watt receiver currently. My new Pioneer VSX-D850S receiver should be setting on front door step when I arrive home tonight. What I have heard so far is amazing. The clearity and the deepth I can hear with these speaker is so excellent. I never that they would sound so clear. The size and weight is impressive. These new speakers should last me for many years to come, they will have to my wife will not let me buy another pair.

Strength:

Produces clean bass with the Double tens, 5 way binding post.

Weakness:

When you bump them for extended period the port piece may work loose. Quick fix, gluegun or Elmers. You''ll never see a problem again!

Paid 625 for the pair last year, have dropped a bit since then. I have to say when I use my Denon 3801 to power these babies they work flawlessly! I have pushed them with the 3801 and they never dissapoint. I see some people complain about blowing sometimes... Well if your using a cheap Receiver (sub $600) anytime you push that kind of receiver it''s bound to clip and destroy a speaker. Commen sense gentlemen.

Strength:

amazing sound

Weakness:

big

These speakers are simply awsome. They work well with most types of music. For dual 10 inch woofers, they could have more bass. So if you listen to a lot of bassy songs, I would recommend a differant speaker. I have an 8in audiosource powered sub, and it fills in nicely with the JBL's. I also feel the lack of bass could be due to my crappy sony reciever. So im not going to hold that against these speakers. These speakers simply just blow you away. And they are very affordable. They are a little big and heavy however.

Strength:

Exceeded my expectations, (and they are pretty high), works great for both HT and audio duties. Meshes well with the JBL S-Center.

Weakness:

None I can think of right away.

I question the intent or experiences of some of the reviews on this board. Obviously there are some "flamers" out there, but you can usually weed them out. That being said, the previous review of this model is exactly the opposite of how mine sound. Oh and,I do NOT work for JBL. Let me back up a moment.
About two months ago, my HLS 620's died. I didn't want to wait for weeks to get my speakers back from repair, so I used this opportunity to upgrade. After listening to the S312's, (which my wife LOVED, but I thought the mids were too foreward, focused, and brassy) I checked out the ND310's. The demo pair I heard were disappointing, BIG TIME. As a matter of fact, the last post described the sound of the demo pair I heard, pretty close. I almost sprang for the S312's. But something about the ND310's kept pestering me, you know, just wouldn't go away.
Now, I have found that as a general rule, gut feeling is never wrong. And, on that, I took a pair of the ND310's home, knowing I could return them if I was unhappy. Boy did I get a nice surprize! Even better than I hoped for and expected. Nice-but-not-shrill crisp highs, foucused, but not forced midrange, and tight, natural bass. With my HT receiver in "direct mode", and the volume up, the realisim for something in this price range is pretty startling. Clear, and tight, real bass. These things like power.
FWIW, I am a pro musician (for 26 years) and know what live music sounds and feels like, and how it sounds in the control room of a studio.
Sting's "Ten Summoner's Tales" was the first audio disc I played. WOW. The sense of air, depth and room of the timbale track in "heavy cloud, no rain" is compelling, and the space between and placement of the instruments very lifelike.
"Fields of Gold" never sounded better- You can really get a feel for Vinny Colaiuta's sense of dynamics on his drum tracks, as you hear the smack of the beater against the head of his kick drum. You can tell he's finessing it, not stomping it. Rock music, no problem, it's JBL! Yanni? "Live at the Acropolis" is spacious. Jazz? Jean-Luc Ponty's
"Storytelling" sounds fabulous. I did not try any traditional classical, or big band pieces.
Home Theatre is equally rewarding. I blew thru sections of The Mummy, Matrix, Bone Collector, SPR, Lost In Space, Contact, and my grin just kept getting bigger. The scene in Bone Collector(DTS) where Denzel stares up thru the ceiling windows and it starts to rain and thunder (before the murderer picks up the first victims) sounds breathtaking. Really, really realistic.
I can't say why the last reviewer had bad sounds as described. Could have been a few variables. I don't know why the store's demo 310's I first heard sounded drab (thru a yamaha HT unit), but there is NO WAY you're going to talk me out of MY pair!
