Strength:

Rich Sound, very clear mids and highs, well built

Weakness:

Large and Heavy

LOVE THE SOUND! Although a little bright at first, the sound mellows out after you break them in. I was really impressed by the clarity of the sound (and so was my wife). Previous to these speakers, I used Bose AM10s and boy was I missing a lot of sound! The Mid frequencies are lacking from the Bose speakers... compared the S310s side by side to the Bose speakers and I found that the JBLs sounded louder with the same power input and definitely richer sounding. I''d definitely recommend these speakers to anyone looking for great quality and reasonable cost. If using these speakers for Home Theater, you''ll need a separate Subwoofer to feel the notes below 45KHz... but if your main purpose is for listening to music, the speakers do a good job.

Strength:

Quick, punchy bass Crystal clear midrange Flat frequency response I love the design

Weakness:

?

I bought these on EBay from Harmon Audio for 295$ shipped which turned out to be an excellent deal. I was originally looking at S38''s, but I actually got the 310''s for less. I''ve had em 2 weeks now and I love em. It doesn''t get any better in the under $500 range. The dynamics, the bass extension, and the midrange are all first rate. I replaced my computer speakers (klipsch promedias) with these and a Sony STR DE-135 stereo receiver. The combo works great for cd''s, mp3''s, dvd movies, video games, anything. I was a klipsch fan until I got these. When shopping for some affordable towers, I looked at klipsch first, then Acoustic Research, JBL, Energy, DCM... everything at Circuit City and Best Buy, and some others I can''t remeber. Anyway, none of the other companies had anything I liked for less then $500 except the S38''s which sounded great (even at best buy with the tweeters crumpled) but they had lacluster bass performance. The next day, I saw refurbished S310''s on Ebay with a buy it now price of 265 and 30 for shipping. I didn''t think twice.

Strength:

Let me first start by saying that I am no audiophile, just an average guy that knows good sound when I hear it. I took it easy for the first few months (break-in period) then desided to test their strength with my Marantz receiver. When I cranked these speakers I could not help getting a huge #$%#@ eating smile on my face. What I heard was amazing. The base shook the windows and walls. You would of thought I had a band playing in my house. The mids and highs were clear warm and very pleasing. I went to one of the local stereo shops to audition these speakers, and they had them in their "High End" room at $700.00 a pair. I almost did cartwheels when I found them on line for $398.00 a pair. Even with shipping ($60.00) I saved $242.00. Simply put I could not have found a better speaker system in this price range.

Weakness:

None

I searched the internet and retail stores for roughly six months before I made my final decission. I read, I researched, and finally chose the JBL S310. Simply put, these speakers blew me away. They are beautiful, heavy, and well built.

Strength:

For the money the BEST speakers you can buy HANDS DOWN
They look cool (I think) with the grilles off

Weakness:

Absolutely none

OK heres the deal- I had a new house in Jan 2001 it burned in August 2001- I had a set of Energy Take 5's. They are very good speakers for the money. But the Energy Center was weak so I bought a scratch and dent JBL S series center and it was so much better than the Energy center that when I had to replace my speakers because of the house situation, I went ahead and replaced all the Energy spekers with an entire set of JBL "S" series- Center, 2ea. 310's as front mains and 2 pair of S 36 (a little big but GREAT sounding) for the front and rear surrounds. But the rest of these reviews are not wrong- BOTTOM LINE- the JBL S SERIES ARE THE BEST SOUNDING SPEAKERS FOR THE MONEY THAT YOU CAN BUY- the difference between the S310 and 312 was so small that it did not justify the higher price for the 312's- but if your room is bigger you may want to go with them instead of the 310s. My living room is only 20 x 16 so it is kinda small. These things sound great at LOW volumes too! Have a Denon 4802 and NHT subone (they make great subs)Buy these speakers- they can be had all over the internet for very fair prices. I am not an audiophile but I can tell clean powerful sound when I hear it- and these deliver- without busting the budget. As a bonus these 310's are made in the USA not some Pac Rim sweat shop. Usually only higher priced speakers are made in the Land of the Free- but these AFFORDABLE, EXCELLENT speakers are. Buy early and often.
PS I dont work for JBL or know anyone who does- just love to buy quality, affordable product that delivers on their promises.

Strength:

JBL Studio standard - excellent sound and design!

Weakness:

Packaging is prone to damage speaker or grill via shipping

Wow! what a product. The design is very home (or professional) theater oriented. The sound is SOOOO GOOD!!! I mean these guys actually make the speaker systems you go to the movies to hear movies from. Outstanding imaging, outstanding dynamics, and outstanding good looks. They actually look better in person than they do in the picture above and they look great in that picture! I also use the JBL S-Center which absolutely compliments these speakers perfectly. You could spend MUCH more - but why? These speakers have great bass (but never sound boomy). I bought 4 of them so I could have equal sound in my DD 5.1 / DTS home theater setup. It really has made a difference, as there is much (directional) bass coming from behind. CD's sound great (never harse - just open and free). Use with or sans grills they look cool either way. I've loved (and bought into) JBL's cool approach to speaker design since the 60's. These speakers are the best I've ever owned. I guess I like 'em - huh?

Strength:

Solid cabinet- nice look and design, flat response, efficient.

Weakness:

Packaging allowed Styrofoam peanuts to enter front baffle and
partially fill chamber. It was a pain to remove them.

I bought these speakers to complete my home audio speaker system, I was lacking good bass response. I currently have a Denon AVR-3600 AV receiver (110w rms into 5 channels), a pair of JBL L60T speakers as side fills, a JBL HLS Center speaker, and a JBL PSW-1200 powered 125w 12" sub.

My goal was to fill in missing bass frequency. The L60Ts have an 8" for bass delivery. I considered getting the JBL S312s but they have a 12" in them where I already have a 12" in my sub. I reasoned that the 10" in the S310 would better produce the frequency range I was missing, crossovers considered.

I couldn't have been more correct. I moved the L60Ts to the side fill position (eliminating the cheep bookshelves I had) and made the S310s my mains. Not only did I get the bass response I was looking for, but got the added bonus of having my system sound 100 times better then it ever did before.

I can only describe the sound I now hear as intoxicating. I listen to rock but find myself playing classical and progressive type music on my system, music containing more dynamics. Al Di Meola would be a good example. I now fully understand why many audiophiles recommend this type of music for demo-ing equipment. Also funny enough, is certain TV commercials sound incredible.

In a nutshell I don't think you could go wrong with the S310 or most likely any of the new JBL Studio Series. In a word "clarity." The S310s hold up well at lower volume and just sound better the more you push them. Makes me think of the ad "is it live or is it Memorex." The sound is so accurate it is scary. By the way I paid $455 with $65 shipping. Money very well spent. All I can say is "Enjoy."

Weakness:

None that I have come across yet.

WOW, these are some great sounding speakers. I didn't expect this much from JBLs like these, especially for the price. I picked them up for 195 each, Crutchfield wants 660 for a pair! If you want good sounding speakers with out getting too serious about it (spending thousands, i mean), get these. You won't be disappointed.

Strength:

build quality,component materials,sound clarity, definition
bang for buck, decent warranty

Weakness:

not too hot looking unless you remove the grilles, at which point speakers would become targets for kids.

Came out of the stone age and bought a A/V receiver last year and was amazed how much speakers cost. Went to Circuit City speaker room and thought even the best speakers (over 1100/pr) sounded awful.
BestBuy's speaker room was even worse and I suspect that someone's garage would would have better acoustics- don't know if it has to do with their system-switching components or their lame pop/rock/jazz etc. samples.

Listened to Polk, Bose (not going to buy speakers if they can't even list their frequency range!), Acoustic Research.

Didn't want to spend over 500, so went on-line and found the JBLs for les than 400/pr at AOKnet, a great company to order from btw. Would have cost >600 plus tax at local stores.
They sound fantastic even with my 80 watt Technics receiver, haven't even gone more than a quarter on the volume. Listen to classical and rock(mostly) both of which never sounded better. Home theater sounds great although subwoofer probably needed.
Essentially bought sound-unheard but extremely happy with purchase, and would recommend them to friends who aren't prepared to spend over 1K on speakers. Can't imagine better sound in their price range, and I have tried.
