Strength:

Sound quality, price

Weakness:

Bass may be a little on the weak side for some depending on your setup.

I purchased these speakers after reading the reviews in here. I was not dissapointed! I had used JBL car audio speakers in the past and was always impressed with their clarity. I got these speakers at thebigstore.com for $195.00 apiece. S&H was only $40.00 dollars so I think I got away with a steal! The fit and finnish on these speakers are outstanding and they are HEAVY especially after carring them up three flights of stairs! I would highly recommend these to anyone who wants theatre quality sound. I have also purchased JBL's s-center and am equally impressed with its quality of sound. If your into a lot of bass I would get the twelves and make sure that you get a "warm" sounding receiver/amp to help out. I am ordering a AR subwoofer here soon to help my system out since I do enjoy the deep low bass sound. JBL is showing the world that you don't have to spend a lot to get a lot!

Strength:

They look cool.

Weakness:

none that i have come across yet.

WOW, these are some great sounding speakers. I didn't expect this much from jbls like these, especially for the price. I picked them up for 195 each, Crutchfield wants 660 for a pair! If you want good sounding speakers with out getting too serious about it (spending thousands, i mean), get these. You won't be disappointed.

Strength:

Clear midrange and highs. Great power handling. Good looking cabinet (Beech finish)

Weakness:

The low end can't keep up with the mids and highs.

I have been a JBL fan for years but did not buy as their consumer line quality went down. They are back with a vengance now. After listening to everything from Pat Metheny to Metallica to Mozart to Motown, I found that these speakers can handle anything and as loud as you want it. The clarity cannot be matched at twice the price, and I looked around. Infinity and Polk were almost as well-rounded but cost much more. Cerwin-Vega speakers can get louder but they just don't have a balanced sound. Once I added the S-Center and a subwoofer (JBL PSW-D112, 12", 250W) to give my system the punch it needed, my house became movie central. Dialogue is clear and the explosions are incredible. You could spend more but you'd have to spend a lot more to beat these speakers. I noticed that I paid more than a number of reviewers here and I still think I got a bargain. These are the best mid-market speakers around, period.

Strength:

vERY POWERFUL,MIDRANGE ,GOOD ALL ROUND SOUND, ATTRACTIVE AND IMPRESSIVE APEARENCE

Weakness:

can't play them when anyone is home in the neighborhood

For the money these speakers give you the most bang for the buck. Looked and listened to B&W's,Infinity's,Polks,Paradigm, and Boston speakers and found out that I'd have to spend nearly $800 for the kind of sound I wanted. Then listened to Northridge series from JBL and was dissapointed, they seem cheep and generic to me and sounded like old garage sale homemade poop. I then ran across some S38's and noticed that they were clear and vibrant and found a place where I could get some s310's for nearly half off retail. Have had them for a week. Very powerful clear sound and impressive all round performance, attractive design and well put togather. I thought JBL sold out when I listened to northridge series but with the S series it proved to me that they are still pumping out the quality. By the way, all speakers are made basicly the same way nowdays, don't be fooled with what other's say, let your ears be the judge. I'm running them off a Onkyo TX8511
100 watt and pluged in the Infinity sm85's along with the s310's and noticed that the Infinity's cover the bright high's a little better than the s310's. What I may recomend is to go try out the JBL s38's and think about adding a sub to them, I think that would cover all the range 20 to 20.

Strength:

Good all around speaker. Very handsome.

Weakness:

Came damaged due to bad packaging.

Arriving at my house, these speakers were badly damaged at the base. The packaging is very poor. Upon returning them to A&B Sound I was dissapointed to find that the other speakers they had in stock were also damaged on the foot pegs! - with a bit of creative thinking and some support from the wonderful staff, we managed to get enough good foot pegs to make a complete set undamaged, the rest went back to JBL. (they were easy to screw on and take off, very functional).

The speakers sound awesome, I have them paired with a set of JBL S26 for surrounds, and they work beautifully! My amp may be a little underpowered to drive them, (5x100w) But for normal listening they are extremely capable speakers. I have a large room and they fill it very well. My home theatre setup improved 200% with the addition of these speakers.. my setup:

JBL S310 Mains
JBL S26 Rears
Kenwood 103SW Sub Woofer
Energy e:xl C1 Center (The jbl center to match was a bit large for my liking and didn't have the same frequency curve of the energy)
Yamaha HTR-5280
RCA RC5500P DVD
Sony V Series 32"

I blew one of the tweeters in one of the speakers because I was cranking it too much, the yamaha just does not have enough power behind it to drive them way at the top end.. hence there was some clipping and that killed the tweeter. JBLs unconditional 5 year warranty saw them replaced quickly and easily at no cost to me (even though i told them it was my fault).

Would recommend to anyone!

-Kyle

Strength:

Crisp natural highs and thumping wall-shaking lows; good looks without cover; incredible price

Weakness:

Heavy and large

I bought these refurbs at harmanaudiooutlet.com for way under the list price. Crutchfield sells these for $899 and I got them for $350. Can that deal possibly be beat? The only problem is that they are heavy and large but, then again, who cares? And, since they're refurbs, the cabnets have minor dings (not really noticable).

The sound on these is fantastic, especially for what I payed. The bass was a little on the weak side until I replaced my outdated and underpowered receiver with a Technics 940. Now they're solid and quite punchy, AND they don't mind being cranked way up. Believe me, there's plenty of bass -- whoever disagrees with me on that probably won't be hearing for very much longer. DVDs also sound great, and without a subwoofer. I highly recommend this pair, especially if you're a high-end freak and want lots of bang for the buck. The place I bought them was very responsive and helpful with my questions/concerns.

Strength:

Balance

Weakness:

Color choices - Would like olk choice.

Very true quality re-production of flat (0 Db gain) frequencies. Shop the net and save big bucks. Mine are comming $480. shipped. I listened to them at a nearby Harmon Outlet which had same speakers for $276. each, and then add on taxes. I was considering reconditioning some old 70's JBL L50's but decided on the S310's after realizing I was into $250. to rebuild the woofers and midranges. Take care and have fun. Don't be afraid to experiment with components !

Strength:

strong performer, excellent bass, avail in birch,

Weakness:

weak shipping materials, very large speaker sound wise-none!

this is a review of the S312's since these are not listed. has slightly "hot" top end, bass excellent. Very well built, very good fit and finish. The feet used on the bottom could be a little stouter due to decibles this speaker is capable of. Sounds best on rock, but jazz such as Coltrane sounded very good. Classical music was also very good examples are: Fanfare for the common man, Planets, etc. Violins were very clear as were the wind instruments.Brass was outstanding.I paid $625 plus shipping and for the money it is hard to beat. Best Buy was $995. would recommend highly. these are very large speakers and are not really for small apartments.I have them in 16X24 room and they do an excellent job.

Great sound at ANY volume, Beautiful looking, well made.

Weakness:

None...Just a little heavy

These speakers are amazing.... They sound great even when you crank up the volume all the way. The studio series is a work of art. THey sound awesome and they look beautiful. For the price you can't get a better speaker anywhere. The beech ones are gorgeous looking too, not an eyesore like some other brands.

Strength:

Clear highs, thick lows. Can be played at VERY high volumes without dostortion.

I purchased these speakers for my surround sound setup for my dorm room. I managed to get them for $470 for a pair with shipping. It is amazing how clear they sound at high volumes. At home they are able to shake the entire house and still have plenty of headroom. I'm very impressed with the quality of the speaker overall, but the black plastic "wood" on the cabinent is a little cheesy.
