Copper color spray paint on the woofers

Hi.

These speakers are totally awesome for the most part. I have had them for a couple months now and I am 99.9% satisfied. I had some Cerwin-Vega LS-10s before, but I was very pleased to replace them with the JBL S310. This speaker is top rung for its price and class. I demoed MANY other speakers before I decided on the JBL. My dad had some old decades that lasted him 25 years +, so I decided that JBL would be a good investment overall... boy, was I right! There is no speaker on the market in this price range that will compare to these beasts! When I say "beasts", I mean it. They weigh 50lbs per speakers and are a b?+&* to move! This is bad for the back, but nice on the ears - There is no sound being emitted from the back, sides, top, or bottom of these speakers, so all listening qualities are directed in the right direction (towards you). I also noticed that these speakers have an excellent sound field (once again, for the price). With this, the "sweet spot" is much more easily found in a room. I read some other reviews, and a few said these speakers are "colorful"... not true. These speakers have a 1" titanium dome tweeter. The treble is clean and loud. This is complimented by the more than sufficient midrange and the deep-deep bass. The woofer puts more than expected in the way of bass. My Infinity subwoofer puts out as much bass as these babies. The S310s are also nice to look at (with the grilles on). I personally don't appreciate the LOUD look of the copper woofers, which are advertised as "Polyplas", but are really just classic fiber woofer cones spray painted. Kind of lame, but with the grilles on, these speakers look really nice. I just wish the grilles actually supplied some sort of dust protection for the speakers. Minor detail, but I still think they should have offered a little more protection than the flimsy grilles that they included, which don't even protect from dust. All in all, these speakers are awesome. I wouldn't expect such quality from a speaker for twice the price. If you are more of an "enthusiast" rather than an "audiophile", these speakers will truly make a good impression. I previewed the Northridge series ND310 and they don't even come close to the S310s. Finding speakers is still a personal preference and I truly recommend listening to as many speakers as possible, but I haven't found anything better than these. If you want powerful bass, good midrange, and crisp highs, then the S310 performs very nicely in every category. For $450 (with shipping), you won't find anything better. I am truly satisfied with my speakers and I think anyone else would be for this price. Good luck.

Strength:

EVERYTHING!!!! The speakers look and sound great! Room filling bass and excellent highs and midrange.

Weakness:

NONE!! They are worth every penny!

I had been looking into buying new speakers for my home theater system for almost 4 months now and have looked around at almost every store for some good speakers in the <$500 price range. I almost bought a pair of Polk tower speakers but they sounded really inferior to the JBL's and they were $100 more. I also listened to Infinity and Bose speaker setups and nothing compared to these. As soon as I got these kick @$$ speakers hooked up to my receiver I almost crapped my pants it sounded so good. There are no other speakers in this price range that can even come close to sounding this good. IMO. Anyone looking into these speakers should buy them and for the people who complain about them looking bad with the grills off I think they look great.

Strength:

Great sound and value for h/t systems or just for stereo sound. Right size speaker compare to other in the JBL floor speaker product line. See below.

Weakness:

Down side to Northridge N-38s and Studio S 312 that the yare too big and take up much room.

Researched heavily on line and on this site for purchase of speakers for my H/T systems. Orginally had JBL Northridge set up purchased at Best Buy. Great sounding set up for surround sound set up but I was looking for more bang when listening to my stereo. These speakers kick ass even at low levels. Beware if you crank these up as you will hear highs and lows as they are meant to be heard !! Bass sounds are clear but I also have a JBL sub which makes my home theather come alive will sound. I wait till no one is home to crank these up a little. Salsa, rap, jazz and classical music paly out well. You can beat these as fronts and the price was right. I have to give a shout out to the excellent online service where these were purchased mentioned above. Great prices and product line that delivers on time and good customer service. I also have to mention that this a great site for folks looking to get feedback and assitance when buying audio equipment and home theater hook ups. I listened to many speakers, like Bose etc and the JBL line of Northrdige or Studio are superb sounding for any novice or audiophile.

I have a 80 watt Yamaha reciever driving this system and its plenty of power for my large den family room set up.

System:

Yamaha Reciever 80 watts per
JBL S310 fronts
JBL N24 rear surrounds
JBL P-10 subwoofer
Sony SACD player
Panasonic 47" HDTV widecreen
Panasonic -61 progressvie scan DVD
Panasonic HIFI VCR
Monster cables.
