A magnificent speaker. Bass doesn't boom, it surrounds the listener without dominating - although it can dominate. Highs are best I've ever heard. This speaker system maintains clarity from the softest bedtime Enya listening all the way through party-pounding Rock and Zydeco. Cabinet is a very nice piece of furniture, but would prefer a darker wood.
Overall, a superior speaker and a great buy at the price. BUT...the hidden cost from U-bid really pulls down the overall value. Here's why:
Over the past couple years I've gotten a lot of pretty good deals from U-bid. But for the past several months they've been spiking their shipping fees to more than $2.25/lb. That's twice what their prebid advertising says, and bidders don't get that information until AFTER their bids are in. For big speaker sets like AR S40's and these JBL S312's this can make what seems at first like a good deal, not good at all. I paid $153 in shipping for these. I've challeged U-bid on their shabby tactics, to no avail. My recommendation...boycott U-bid.

Strength:

Big full range sound, clean and tight bass, highs and mids are accurate and tuneful

Weakness:

Woefully inadequate packaging for these heavy speakers!

I bought these for a two channel system. I currently use the JBL S-310s for fronts, S-center, and S26s for rears in my home theater system. It's rounded out with a Velodyne SPL-1000 sub. I was very impressed with the sound of the S-310s by themselves but they lacked lower bass, OK for home theater with a sub, but not by themselves in a two channel system. I opted for the S-312s and am I ever impressed with their sound! They rival many speakers costing over twice as much! My only complaint is their packaging. One of the first two I ordered was damaged. The outside of the box did not appear to be in bad shape, but the styrofoam inside was completely destroyed and the cabinet had two large dents at the upper corners. JBL needs to improve their packaging to better protect these fine speakers. By the way, had no problem getting a replacement speaker from Merle Landrus Audio/Video. He knows his stuff and will treat you right! I would highly recommend these speakers!

This is an excellent speaker and a great buy. uBid is selling many of these at around $119 each. Speaker size is large, so make sure you have a proper room for these bad boys. JBL has developed an excellent product at a real steal of a price. I only worry about reliability as my old JBL HLS810s blew their tweeters after 4 years, but their replacements have done nothing but put a smile on my face.

Strength:

Attractive appearance, Impressive range, Very clear and precise at all volume levels.

Weakness:

Alittle big and heavy, but you knew that already...

I recently purchased a pair of these off eBay for $488.95 a pair plus shipping. I read other reviews of this speaker and they were most positive and encouraging. After listening to them now for a while, I can honestly say that these speakers deserve the favorable reviews they are getting.

My previous set of speakers were nothing special, but these JBL's are like night and day over and above anything I've owned before. I've read some comments here that mention that this speaker has weak bass....well, I disagree. This speaker has PLENTY of bass, so don't worry about it.

You can spend more on a pair of speakers, but I doubt that you'll find any better sounding speakers than these JBL S-312's.

I purchased these speakers mostly because of the reviews from the Internet. For the price, there is no better speaker. Fifteen years ago, I paid almost twice as much for my Infinity's and these JBL S312 just blow them away in both musicality and dynamics.

Contrary to other posts, these speakers can crank out the bass if the original material supplies it. For a sample, just watch the T2 THX movie for some awesome bass.

I'm really impressed with these JBL's and would recommend them to anyone.

Ok, I submitted a review for my amp in the speaker section. Duh!
Anyhow, yes, the JBL S-312's are a mighty speaker which will reward you with beautiful clear sound. Audio CD's are presented accurately and DVD's sound spectacular. In my opinion, for the money, they may be the best value out there. Haven't found anything these speakers can't handle. If you're thinking of buying them, think no more and do it. They're great.

Weakness:

Slightly flimsy remote

For fear of sounding redundant, I won't go on and on about what a wonderful amplifier this is. However, I will say this; I have gone through a number of different pieces of audio equipment in my search for the "perfect sound" and this amp seems to come as close to that as I've gotten so far. I'm positive it could take the Pepsi challenge against any amp on the market. It's true, play a CD that you are familliar with through the 2095 and you will hear sounds that were absent when being played through other amps. When coupled with a great set of speakers and a good DVD/CD player, it rules supreme.
My only beef is with the remote. Although I find it easy to use, Im afraid I'm going to snap off the flimsy plastic door. My remote is presently being serviced by Yamaha as one of the command buttons has somehow become unresponsive. Still, my main focus is on great sound and the Yamaha RXV-2095 has no problem delivering exactly that. Wonderful piece of machinery. Highly recommended.

I had the S310 and still give it 5 stars. Wanted a little more stereo sub output and in a larger room (with my Adire Audio Rava sub in a 2.1 system). Slightly lower crossovers than S310 and it does sound a little more full (of course it's a bigger speaker w/12" bass driver).

Real nice immaculate cherry finish, looks great with grills on or off. Shipped freight ($542+$88), arrived in 4 days! They are 70 lbs. each, but I can move them myself (lifting one hand from bottom). Unpacking - just tilt, cut the bottom box open and lift off the cardboard box.

Using with an NAD C370 integrated amp, Toshiba SD9200 CD/HDCD/DVD/DVD-A player, Studiotech HF-04 audio/video stand, Adire Audio Rava sub, Acoustic Research 12 gague speaker cables, RCA, component video connects, Caig DeoxIT and Progold contact cleaner and enhancer, Toshiba 27AF61 27" flat screen TV - reviews on those will follow and they are all keepers!

What can I say except ditto for all reviews on these great speakers. I do consider myself an audiophile (sort of a passion for 25 years). I might be set for life with these, unless I want to add some more S312's for DVD-A and SACD surround sound!

Needs nothing!

I really can't say anything you have not heard already but I got a great deal on these speakers ($499.00 including S/H) and I now have a taste of audiophile life. On my average Pioneer VSX-D409 receiver these speakers sound simply incredible! I can now hear suttle sounds I often would miss on lesser speakers. I can play anything on them and they still sound great. The day I got them my wife and I just sat and looked at them in amazement as we listened to them. Believe me they sound GREAT!
