Was out shopping for a mini-monitor. I have MK sub with 80hz hi pass filter so bass is not a concern, just accurate upper bass, mids and hi. Heard the Coda 7 with a price tag of $210. Damn I said, these sound great. Then the salesman said that is $210 for the pair! For the price of Radio Shack crap, borderline audiophile speakers for a C-note. I passed on these as the salesman directed me to a discontinued KEF Q10 for $179 a pair. If it wasn't for the Q10, I would have gotten the Coda. Other speakers that impressed me were Paradigm mini monitor, Pinnacle 650, Monitor Audio (anything of theirs), Mirage. But the KEF also excel in home theatre applications.

So how do these KEF sound? Well, stick a pair of tweeters and woofers into shoeboxes and you'll have an idea. Boxy, hollow sound. These are horrible-sounding speakers. I have done some listening into the budget area of bookshelf speakers as I wanted to offer my nephew an upgrade from his JPW Minim. But, surprisingly, the JPW's beat the Codas hands down! Too bad I can't give a 0 rating... that's what the Coda 7's deserve!

I do not claim to know anything about stereo equipment, but as a classically trained musician, I feel that my ears are very sensitive to sound. How do I like my KEF coda 7's? I love 'em!!! The reproduction of sound is very natural and clean. The bass response is accurate and full though if you like to feel the bass rather than hear it these probably aren't the speakers for you. The highs are crisp and not shrill. The soundstage is not enormous (what do you expect from such a small speaker) but I find suprising imaging and depth. When listening to chamber music or small jazz ensemble, I can often hear both height and stage depth. I have them paired with the denon avr 75 in a fairly small room and they fill it completely. Bravo kef!! On the down side, they are very sensitive to minor adjustments in placement. I can see how pairing these speakers with the right amp and room can be truly vital. These speakers also sound slightly thin when working with baritone and tenor range instruments (mens voices, tenor sax, trombone etc.) but not nearly as thin as expected in a speaker this size.
Overall, I would rate these speakers at a 4 for their honest repoduction of sound (even some of the more subtle harmonics) and a 5 +++ considering what I paid for them (about $100 total) A great speaker. An unbelievable value...

I ve listened to other speakers in the price range including B&W601,302, TannoyM2,Mission731 etc one main difference between the Coda7s and most other speakers is their liveness and exciting presentation with many music especially
pop and rock.Midrange and treble is quite open and detailed and bass is surprisingly deep for the size(50Hzf3).Downside is a very slight coloration hollowness in the midrange which does not detract much from the music but takes away a bit of crispness and transparency. But more serious is a thinness to the lower mid and upper bass that reduces the enjoyment of some music which require a warm and clean lower midrange.Bass also lacks impact and punch. But they do sound much better on shorter stands around 50cm more warmth and bass.Still 5 speaker rating despite some imperfection.

Overall, a pretty good speaker for the money, but a bit off the pace now. Sound quality is good, if a little soft. Build quality is pretty poor though - the cabinet creaks when you press it. I recently sold these to a friend to use on his midi system - they sound much better than the supplied speakers.

I was looking for a pair of smaller speakers for a bedroom system, and these fit the bill perfectlly--nice imaging, balanced sound, good bass for their size, and all at a low, low price. The front-firing port also makes them really easy to place in a smaller room. I've cranked them up a couple of times to the loudest I'll probably ever play them, and they handled everything I threw at them quite well. I picked the Coda-7's up new for $100, and can't imagine finding a better bargain for a new bookshelf at this pricepoint.

Strength:

Great for homr theater and most music.

Weakness:

As with any bookshelf they lack the ability to really rock and roll. A problem that a sub can help, however, not cure.

Very durable speakers. Currently, I am using 4 Coda 7 speakers for a second home theater system. The speakers are being driven by an Onkyo TX-DS 575 A/V receiver at 70 watts/8 ohms. Paid around $60/each on Ubid.

I do have high end A/V equipment so I was skeptical about paying so little for speakers. These speakers reproduce nicely the complex film soundtracks and all the Grateful Dead I play. These speakers are being used as Front Lt/Rt and Rear Lt/Rt, withg a large Yamaha center channel speaker and a KEF 12" self-powered sub.

Using a Radio Shack sound meter the speakers routinely play at over a 100 db and during some film soundtrack passages I am reading over 110 db. Good enogh to cause me to have another paradigm shift when it comes to thinking about small cheap speakers.

The KEF Coda 7's are awsome for any beginner building a Hi-Fi system. For tiny speakers they produce a large amount of clean tight bass. The sound from these speakers are great. They are also very easily driven to loud levels. Anyone on a budget or any beginner should take a look at these. I got mine for $160 and I'm really impressed.

This speaker is a truly best buy for the beginner. It sounds pretty good for any kind of music. It costs about US 120-150 per pair. This pair of speaker can beat any apeakers with the price below US 350. It has the taste of British and American sound. Beginner can consider it.

Strength:

Absolutly Briliant. The best low price loud speaker I have ever had.

Weakness:

The grill rattles a bit when turned up to its maximum

I think thet Kef hit the nail on the head when they came up with this speaker. The first time I heared them at a freinds house I was hooked and got a pair the very same day.
