got these speakers 2 years ago. initially quite impressed with its open expression, with a nice treble and midrange for the price. not bright or harsh but just natural. problem with the speaker is that the bass is just too weak. i dont hear any of the impressive bass for the speaker size thing that others talk about. also the build quality is very poor. playing bass heavy dance music is impossible at slightly louder levels as the front panel mounting the woofer and tweeter vibrates and gives off this irritating sound. very disappointed if you ask me. won't even get past the 9o'clock mark on my 30W amp without the vibrations setting in. all in all, a poor product due to its poor build quality. if the speaker is used for normal pop and acoustic, i guess its pretty good (although bass is a tad weak). no dance or orchestral stuff at louder volumes. |

Strength:
GREAT bass for the size. Imaging is excellent.
Weakness:
A little rattling unless the Grill is on perfectly. Not magnetically Shielded. I got these for $39.00 each on UBID. I can't believe I wasn't outbid. I have a pair of Polk RT25s which I liked a lot but I wanted another pair of small speakers for surround. These went immediately to the front and the polks to the rear. Great Bass, not overpowering, just that smooth bass that seems much more listenable. Imaging and voices are superb. To me an indicator of a good speaker is that it sounds good at low levels, this does. If you can get a pair for anything near the price I did do it. Strength:
Great imaging and bass response for size. Smooth upper midrange and treble. Good binding posts.
Weakness:
Build quality is not exceptional. I bought the Coda 7s for an office system and was so impressed, that I bought another pair for my in-laws and a pair for a home office system. They are very impressive for their diminutive size. They exhibit a smooth upper midrange and treble. Unlike an earlier poster, I find them quite nice for vocals. Diana Krall sounds heavenly, even at very low volumes. The KEFs can handle a fair amount of power, but are relatively efficient. The 6 ohm nominal impedance shouldn't bother most systems. However, a powerful amp will really bring them to life. I didn't notice a significant change after they got broken in, but suspect that, like most speakers, the KEFs will sound better after being played for a while. For the $100 a pair (shipping included) I paid, I don't think there is a better deal on the market. As for build quality, they are a little cheap feeling. I'm almost afraid to remove the grill covers because the plastic feels so cheap. The cabinets are adequate and don't seem to resonate. One of the pairs was defective out of the box and shorted out a new receiver. The other pairs were fine. I would buy them again. Similar Products Used: KEF Coda III |
