Strength:

Very good stereo imaging, good clarity in the highs and midrange. Good bass response without being too pronounced.

Weakness:

none so far

Well, I did it. Finally replaced my 22 year old
IMF Electronics Compact II speakers.
Had the Q95 center for a year already and bought the Q75s for $900 from Sounddistributors.com, after having heard them once at a retail shop.
I've only had them for 4 days and they're not really broken in yet, but already now they are everything I could have hoped. Very warm sound with nicely balanced highs and midrange. Nothing is too pronounced. There's enough bass if you need it, but not too strong to sound boomy. I use them without the grilles, just because I like their looks, too. They're not bi-wired yet, but will try that out soon.
If you have a chance, listen to Enya's 'Shepherd Moons'. Sounds amazingly beautiful. The integration with the Q95 center is a perfect match. Makes the front end really sound awesome. Cannot wait to hear The Matrix or Saving Private Ryan on DVD .
All in all they are as good as any speaker could wish it were. I use a Denon AVR-2800 receiver. Mission 60i surrounds and a REL Acoustics Q50 as subwoofer.

Auphi, Sorry that you disagree with my review. I don't know what type of equipment you used in your audition or the price of equipment in Brussels, but in my case the Q75's were $400 less expensive than the B&W 604's. The 604's were the the first series not the s2's, they were not out at the time. I auditioned the B&w 604's in a Hi-end stereo store and purchased them. I thought they sounded okay, but I only paid US $1100. They retail for $1600.
I then borrowed a pair of Q75's from the same dealer. I did a comparison in my home of the 2 sets of speakers. The kef's sounded twice as good as the B&w's. I returned the 604's and ordered a new pair of Q75's. I also auditioned the Linn's 5140 while I was awaiting the Q75s. I paid $1100 for the Q75's, they retail for US $1500. I am using the Q75's with a Denon 5700. I don't know in what capacity you auditioned the Q75's but I think you are WRONG in criticizing my opinions. People buy what they like in sound, speakers are subjective, there is no perfect speaker. I am pleased with my purchase of the Q75's. I did my homework.

Strength:

Smooth yet dynamic character: luscious mid-range, ample bass, detailed highs without being harsh. Imaging is incredible!

Weakness:

None as far as I'm concerned.

I've listened to an awful lot of speakers in the past 18 months... and not just for a minute or two, but for extended periods and at numerous locations - both in dealer showrooms and at home. I always took along my own CD's so that I'd be familiar with the material. I've literaly spent dozens and dozens of hours doing critical listening and comparisons.

Now I'm not going to go so far as to state that the KEF Q75's are the best speakers I've heard... but for the price they're fantastic. Certainly I'd love to own a pair of B&W N802's or Hales Design Transcendence Fives - but I don't have the $6,000 plus entry fee.

I was struggeling to finalize my purchasing decision, and had decided that by stretching my budget I could spend somewhere between $1,500 and $2,000 (Hey, I'm a family man... 3 kids, a wife, 2 dogs, a car payment, and a mortgage). Anyway, I had pretty much narrowed my choices down to B&W DM604 S2, B&W CDM7, Vienna Acoustics Mozart, Linn 5140, or Soliloquy 5.3 (if I could get any of the latter three models on sale), and the KEF Q75.

I don't care much for metal dome tweeters - too harsh and too much metalic ringing - so I generally prefere silk dome tweeters... though the B&W's seem to have resolved that particular issue - it's one of the few metal dome tweeters I can stand.

Anyway, I happened to stop by one of my favorite local stereo shops one day at lunch and lo and behold, they were just unboxing a pair of B-stock Q75's that had two small dings on the rear edge of the back panel of one of the speakers. The sides, the tops, the fronts and the grills were all perfect. The drivers and crossovers were factory checked and met all specifications. The price? They were on sale for $695 (US). Less than half price? Because of two little dings that you can't even see unless you peek around at their backsides? Needless to say I purchased them on the spot.

At $1,500 they are great speakers and will give anything in that price range a run for it's money. At $695 they're a STEAL! Smooth, liquid mid-range - vocals sound like the artist is right there in the room with you. The bass is full, dynamic, and musical. It's never been "boomy" as one early review states... but then I have a fairly large room and don't place them too close to the back or side walls. The highs are detaled and extended, without being grating. The soundstage is wide and deep. Finaly, the tone of instruments just sounds right. Piano is more like a piano. Plucked guitar strings just sound more realistic. Cymbols, bells, triangles sound suitably metalic. Instruemnts with "bite" such as sax and violin reach out and grab you, without sounding harsh.

What more can I say? I love them!

For the record, I have an eclectic taste in music. I love jazz, blues, folk, rock, pop, classical, country, urban/hip-hop, and alternative.

My system:
Main Speakers - KEF Q75
Center Channel - KEF Model 100
Surrounds - KEF Q35
AV Processor - Sony STRV-444ES
Main Amp - Harman Kardon Citation 22
CD/DVD Player - Sony DVP-S7700
Hi-Fi Stereo VCR - Sony SLV-N70
Interconnects - Kimber Silver Streak
Digital Cable - Kimber D-60
Speaker Cable - Monster M1.4 bi-wire
