Strength:

Bass (especially at low synth frequencys) Treble, midrange, excelent crossovers, looks

Weakness:

r u mad???

I hooked these up into an entirely new system wich i had bought along with these, so together i had no idea what to expect. i rigged up a meridian 506 with QED Opticals into a krell amp i switched on and spun my tester cd (Micheal jackson Bad) as the first notes hit me i was stunned at the power that came from them the amount of punch that they are able to deliver. The treble had a sweet but fiesty bite the mid range was crystal clear and the bass was astonishing you could feel it punching u from every angle i love these speakers. oh yeah an by the way listen to the end of another brck in the wall part 2 live by pink floyd that sub bass boom makes me feel physically sick!!

I've heard many speakers in my time and when I heard the KEF 107's, I couldn't believe it. I almost bought a pair on the spot. Well, since then KEF came out with the Model 4's. The bass isn't as deep as with the 107's, but the overall sound is astoundingly better with bass still being very present, tight and well defined. I find this speaker very easy to listen to. It is very transparent, musical, imaging is excellent, and it is very pleasing to the ear. Highly reccomended.

Strength:

Focus,soundstage,depth,transparecy,balance,sweetness,bass/midrange/treble,looks/presentation

Weakness:

are you out of your mind?

Hook up the Ref 4's using Cardas cables, to decent components, such as Krell amps and Theta/Krell/Wadia Cd players and you'll wonder when the performers will ask you for a drink! Yes, coupled to the right equipment they are up there with the very best costing twice or even three times as much. I mentioned Krell amplification because these babes do need a lot of real power to perform and, beleieve me they do go really down.

Strength:

Super tranparant, detail, dynamic mid and sweet treble.

Weakness:

Need a big room for them to show their best performance, Bass can be sometime a bit thin for poor record and it's need the best quality and powerful amp to drive.

I auditioned them with Meridian 508.24 Cd player, Krell KRC-HR pre, Pass Aleph P pre, Krell FPB-300 power, Pass Aleph 1.2 (2oow) and Nordost SPM cables. At first, I connected Proac up. sound is quite impress me, very tight and deep bass, detail is ok, overall sound seem to be perfect. Then I change it to kef. Now, the sound much more transparent and airy than Proac, even detail is better, more clear, wider and deeper soundstage. Mid is more dynamic ( especially classical and orchestra music) The upper bass poorer than proac, I mean the bass is there, also deep but bass is thin in some kind of music, when it come to audiophile record, the bass problem were disappear. Then turned to Electa, I was disappoint of its sound( it is the worst in test) They trend to ad some colour to made relax sound. It's shouldn't be sell at this price, I try to listen it for nearly 1 hour but i still not like it because the detail and soundstage is not up to the rest. This speaker overall sound is suitable for relax enjoydable ( not audiophile). Then come to last Thiel, this is perfect, got better bass resolution than others but otherthing likedetail and soundstage is similar to kef. So finally, Thiel win the test but i brought kef because it's better value compare to thiel, you can save almost $2000. kef model 4 is a speaker must listen to if you are in the market. I highly recommended

These speakers have a big problem and a hole at the bass (80-120 Hz I believe). Kicking bass is not there, also mediums are ahead (in front of the music)like the most high decibel loudspeakers.
Especially at the louder volumes, speaker tires you to listen for a long time.
I was very dissapointed after comparisions with my old KEF 105-II speaker

You need a big room or a moderate sized finished basement (concrete floors) because there is a lot of bass energy thrown out of these bayby's. That said, these speakers just plain sound right! Smooth clean highs. Not at all dull, but the uni-q is a natural sound not a hyped one. Midrange is fluid and all (there). Imiging with a good recording is as good as it gets (really). Bass is big and full, and has all the sonic spectaculars. Unless you are a organ buff or have a huge room I cant imagine a sub doing much good. You will need an amp with some stones to drive them. A lot of people cheap out and get the 3's but will also tell you to get a subwoofer so I dont see big savings with that. Would you like knowing you have second best? Would I buy them again? HELL YES!!

Strength:

God sensibility. Very dynamic sound. Midrange in the absolut high-end class. Fullrange speaker.

Weakness:

Big. Allthough the speaker has good sensibility, it demands a big powerfull amplifier that can pump a lot of ampare in the speaker.

These speakers demands a lot of burn-in. Even after 2 month you can still detect improvements. After 4 month with these babys the sound is as one could expect the next many years. This speaker is not cheap, but you will get value for the money. The woofersystem is powerfull and first at 28 Hz its down 3 db (In normal rooms, 22 Hz at -6db) Not only that, but it can also provide a big powerfull bass, almost scary. A subwoofer here is NOT needed. And if you are a movie-fan these speakers in front of a surroundsystem gives you the all you need, if it's earthkwake-bass you desire. But for me it's HI-FI, and with these speaker hooked up to 2 big amp's it produces High-end sound that can be compared to many other High-end speakers, like the ProAc 3.5 and B&W 801/802. The special Uni-Q unit gives a perspektive thats very big, and allthough some speakers have a little more micro-details (Ex. the B&W 801/802) one do not miss anything. I mean, if you are to a classical concert. How much details can you hear. I think that some speakers, and for that mather other things like amplifiers and so fourth, actually produces more detail, than one can hear in real life, in the concerthall. If that's the case, is it not so that the audioproducts is not true too the concept of High Fidelity ??
the REF Model Four's absolut most powerfull advantage is its dynamic midrange, that is just breathtaking good. Only a few speakers, if any gives such a "high fidelity"-sound. The speaker faithfull to the neutral highfidelity-sound easily revial any changes in other part of your system, from cables to new capasitators in your pre-amp. Highly recommended. But you have to have a fairly large room, if you want to get the full out these baby's. Especially the bass, respons well to a large or mediumsized room.

Strength:

super inner detail, forcus mid, airy and deep bass. Sound very similar to electrostatic speakers.

Weakness:

Need large room and good quality gear.

Kef is the best quality in sound and built, the sound just so real( especially vocal and treble). It better than any speaker at the same range. it smooth, clear, detail, and dynamic without sound over bright. I used it with plinius pre, power and meridian cd player.

Strength:

Overall a very good speaker. Incredible treble, mid and bass. Goodlooking and solid

Weakness:

Missing some of the lowes bass? Below 30Hz

Very satisfied, I have a pair of loudspeakers for the rest of my life... Now I can spend my time on upgrading my Rotel amps and Nakamichi CD-player...

I bought the kefs second hand (aprox.12 months) new price is about $5000,- Tried Monitor Audio Silver 9i ($2000,-), Dynaudio Audience 80 ($2000,-), JM Lab and others. These where cheaper, but I wanted no compromises - the speakers should be able to play any kind of music - and LOUD too!
