i was shocked to find 100W speakers for $30 a pair that sound good. loud and crisp - but be prepared to buy a sub with all the money you save on these babies. match 4 of these with a klh 120W sub and it all sounds great for about $200.

Strength:

Good highs and decent mids

Weakness:

No Bass at all

I bought these speakers as a supplement to the front speakers in my bookshelf system. They had no highs, so I went looking for cheap speakers with some good crisp high end. I found them...

These speakers worked well in conjunction with the existing bookshelf speakers, which were tuned to the low end. These supplied the clean, crisp highs while the others gave the bass (with the sub). Now, I plan on using these as rear channel surround speakers.

If you're looking for some decent speakers but don't need so much bass, I would recommend these. They're pretty good and you don't have to blow your whole wad....

None really

Thin, hollow, no bass, sharp/etched highs, unnatural sounding

My recently widowed mother moved into a townhouse and for some inexplicable reason gave away most (but not all) of her stereo gear. As a former church organist and pianist, she really began to miss listening to music. Since her good #1 son was going to be in town visiting for Christmas, I thought I'd buy her an inexpensive pair of speakers to match with her $99 5-disc changer and low-end Sony receiver.

Needless to say, after getting everything hooked up I was pretty disappointed in the sound. Bland, soulless, just plain cheap. I was even more disappointed to learn that one of the woofers wasn't even playing! Since I didn't have all my tools, extra drivers, soldering iron, etc. handy -- my mom didn't even have a Phillips screwdriver in the house -- I didn't know what else to do except go to Radio Shack in hopes that I could open the box up and discover what was wrong. Was it the driver? Fortunately, no. These had been reconditioned and somehow a wire from the mid-bass driver to the crossover had become disconnected (at the end it was soldered to the coil). With a little bit of ingenuity and sticky tape, I was able to reconnect the wire and get the mid-bass driver working.

But the sound is still poor, poor, poor. Anyone who would give these speakers more than a "2" has never ventured beyond the cheap sh*t sold at Price/Costco and Best Buy. Blecch.

Strength:

Good price, good quality

Weakness:

Flat Sound

These speakers do work very well as a sorrund speaker with Dolby Digital system. They do have a flat sound, but for the size of the speaker they do pretty good. I can't think of alot to say about the speakers, except there just a good rear sorrund speaker and are quite cheap for the quality.

Strength:

cheap, can be driven hard, truly flat sound

Weakness:

none, period.

This is a pretty unremarkable speaker, that is to say, it doesnt accent anything you play throgh it. it has a flat response, and decent bass for a small woofer. used as a surround speaker in a dolby pro logic system, you will be hard pressed to find any flaws. as a main speaker, well, what do you expect for $20 geoff? I still think it can hold its own. as for the "audiophile" statement, your right, a true audiophile doesnt worry about cost. he worrys about sound, and thats it. if your a true audiophile, then why do you have a sony amplifier? for the monet you spent on that, you could have bought a hrmon kardon, or carver, or any number of true class a amplifiers. I suggest you check you have been reading too many "audiophile" magazines, if you think price equals quality. I challenge you to use them as a surround speaker, even on a newer dts system, and honestly tell me they dont do a decant job for their type of speaker.

Strength:

Low price, reasonable sound, power handling capability, compact size

Weakness:

Lack of bass and high ends but you can't expect this from speakers priced this low

I bought these for rear surround sound speakers in my home theater I am putting together. The HT is middle of the road in price, but middle of the road is still pretty good sound. I was pleasantly surprised at the ok surround sound. I was so impressed by the value of these speakers, I bought a second set as spare speakers for my living room stereo system. For the money, a tremendous value. If you are a true audiophile who cannot accept anything but the best sound, this speaker is not for you. But if you are looking for a bargain priced spare set of speakers or bedroom speakers for a small stereo this is your answer. Best Buys seems to have these speakers on sale quite frequently lately.

Well, I saw these in Best Buy for $15/pair. I was not looking for speakers (I just bought a pair of JBL N-38's and a Sony DE945 receiver), but since they were cheap I gave them a listen. They sounded better than any other KLH bookshelf speakers, but not quite as nice as other brands. I bought them thinking that I would compare them to my current RCA surrounds and return them if they sucked. Well, not only did I NOT return them, I actually went back to Best Buy and bought another pair for my bedroom (I might have bought even more if they were not sold out).

How do they sound? Well, I agree with most of the other reviews. They give give you the typical two-way-speaker sound. I find this really makes the snare-drums hit hard with rock music. As with some other reviewers, I was surprised to actually hear a little bass drum too. I tried to turn the volume up to get them to distort, but with my receiver on 1/2 volume they still sounded very clear (I don't dare go past 1/2 in my small apartment).

If you see these for $15/pair, don't hesitate. Buy every pair that they have. Give them as gifts, use them in you car, or just fill your house with speakers. You just can't beat this price.

Just a note in response to Geoff below. He complains that the cabinets are not made of "real" wood. It was my understanding that particle-board was better than real wood because of its isotropic material properties and relatively high damping. It sounds as if Geoff did not buy these speakers, so one wonders why he would spend his time writing the review. Perhaps he cares very deeply that we naive consumers don't get ripped off. Thanks for caring so much Geoff.

One more thing: I think the speakers look a bit cheasy, but with the covers off they look tres cool.

A great little set of speakers for cheap. The are also very efficiant and don't need a lot of watts from your surround sound to make a great presence. You can barely hear my jbL 52Ts with my surround sound at times, but you can hear these much louder.

For updating the cheap speakers that came with a minisystem they can't be beat. I compared them to Bose 100's, JBL 2ways and Infinity. The Infinity was much better of course. But, for the money which was only 24 bucks in this case...I found an open box sale it is a steal. I just can't see how some systems manufacturers get away producing junk speakers.
I would give the KLH 911B 4 out of 5

I bought these speakers at Best Buy for $28.00 each, at which price these things are PHENOMENAL! The highs are crisp and clear, and their sound is almost clinical in nature: no warmth at all, but zero coloration. There is a rear port for bass, which lets you increase or decrease bass by moving the speaker closer or farther from the wall. Bass is also pretty good for a speaker this size, but a subwoofer would be recommended. I'm going to run out and buy four more as satellites for the HT I'm building while they're still on sale!
